Mike & Mike said they can understand the holding call but at the same time it was no worse then anything that happens on every pass down in the league.

I didn't see it but would like to.

Holding by linemen should not be called unless its clear that the hold is instrumental in the player not making a play. Incidental grabbing, etc should never be called. Just like incidental contact. Its like all those stupid calls on punts and kickoffs where the guy barely taps someone in the back and its called. Contact alone should NEVER be the reason for a call- it must be contact that really matters. And if its all the way on the other side of the field where it could not possibly have any effect on the play- pick up the flag!

That makes it way to subjective for the refs. One ref may think a hold 10 yards away doesn't matter while one thinks one 5 yards away doesn't. A hold is a hold.

When I read the title I thought it was going to be about the no holding call on Wes Welker where he was tackled while running his route on the Ed Reed interception. I thought that was, by far, the most obvious bad call of the night by the officials.

No, that would be the no call for offensive pass interference on the final play of the game.

I don't think there was enough evidence to overturn the catch. Had he been ruled out I don't think they would have changed it anyway. I don't think it really matters because the Ravens had two 15yd penalties after that play. When it's half the distance to the goal is it an automatic first down? I'm confused on that part.

Listen DUDE know the rules will ya you must posse the ball all the way through the catch and then to the ground.Plain and simple No where and i mean NO where does it say switching the ball to the other hand is ok. OK know that we know the rule it was clear that the ball was moving and clearly should of been incomplete because the player was juggling the ball. Now these are the rules made by the NFL.

I wish you were as diligent in knowing the rules of grammar as you think you are about the rules of the NFL.

As for him juggling the ball, uh, no. He caught it on his finger tips and then brought it in. The refs signaled a touchdown.

But what do they know? It's not like they know the "rules" of football better than a bunch of forumites. ;) :D

Gaffney did not go to the ground, so that does not play a part. Control or at least the definition of control is the issue. I don't think it is defined as the ball can not move at all. If it were then it is not a catch by Gaffney. I think Gaffney had control of the ball the whole time while it was moving. His finger tips were gripping the ball the whole time. But I will admit I don't know the specific wording of the rule. Gotta link?

It was holding on Watson. It was obvious. The Pats had the ball at the 13 yard line and the guy held him pretty much the whole time until the end zone. The unfortunate part is that he did not need to hold him. He was in good underneath position and had over the top help. Just a bad play by the defender.

Why are some people questioning the flag for false start on the Pats? That was an easy call. The guard jumped.

Because it sounds so much better to say the Pats cheated or the refs cheated for the Pats than to acknowledge that great teams make great plays or have fortune shine on them when they need it to.

And bad teams like the Ravens don't make the plays when they need to.
