The infatuation with DBs

i look at many boards and read many posts from Cowboys boards and others. No other board has as many posters that wants DAbs drafted in the first year after year. Sanders was worth a top ten pick, but there are not any Sanders in this draft. There never will be. Drafting DBs in the first has not panned out well at all for the Cowboys. TNew, Jenkins, Mo, etc. have not produced to the level expected . Jones looks decent if he can find a position . What makes posters want Ramsey after this history and the fact that he is not even the top CB in the draft. Jones is the same player. Why draft another one. His lack of interceptions is even more of a head scratcher. DBs do not have the impact on teams that many here think. The Deion's are very rare. He was a difference maker and a playmaker. I knew Mo wasn't and I was blasted here and everybody should see that Ramsey is not. I find it odd that this board is the only board that pushes for DB picks so often in the first. I don't understand the infatuation when the positions are not high impact positions.

I just cant get past 2012, I know Ramsey will probably be way better than Claiborne......but I was so excited when we traded up for Mo, and its been such a let down......I even still have a sliver of hope for Mo, but the thought of draftin yet another DB so high (Roy and TNew) and the whole "is he a CB or S?" has me completely turned off from Ramsey...............If we do draft him, I'll root for him of course and hope for the best, but he's by far my "please DONT draft him at #4"......

I watched too many if Mo's games to be suckered in . I knew he was not even in the same class as Patrick Peterson and I knew he didn't have the ball skills that posters believed he had. Of course he was compared to Peterson , who was drafted from LSU the year before. Mo was never a ball hawk, turnover machine and his coverage skills was soft.

HAHA You guys are going to love Ramsey if we get him. He can do it all. He is all over the field, Making tackles, Breaking up passes, causing fumbles, blocking kicks, returning kicks for TD's and if teams will throw the ball his way he will get INT's too.

Dallas has drafted the wrong db's in the past. Reminds me of the period they went through when they couldn't draft a decent DE despite using 1st round picks over and over Eveneezer Ekubon, Shante Carver and the likes. Now they spent a 2nd and a 3rd on one DE two years ago and a 2nd on another last year and here we are drafting another 1 or two this year.

In the mean time we have a SS that was a UDFA and is decent against the run but horrible in coverage and a 13 million dollar this year CB who get's beaten like a red headed step child.

Claiborne is not Ramsey, Jenkins isn't Ramsey, Tnew isn't Ramsey.

Ramsey is the rare DB with the speed, size, and instincts.

Just once, I'd like to be the team that finds Richard Sherman in the 5th round or Josh Norman in the 4th round and gets great cornerback play at a reasonable cost.

It seems that we can't even buy it, even when we overpay. In cap money or draft picks.

Its because we have failed so hard for a decade to replace Woodson. Its why this fanbase over values DBs and Safeties in general.

I dont recallna draft in a long time where there wasnt a sect of Cowboys a Safety in the 1st desperately. Its one of the quirks of our fanbase. Every team has them

Just because we missed on Mo doesn't mean you should never draft a CB again
Tnew being a bad pick is crazy
I think safety is over valued big time here.
Back to back first rnd picks on safety is something I've complained about
But there is a very good chance the top rated guy when we pick is gonna be Ramsey followed by Bosa
Some want BPA as long as it's THEiR BPA

I know.

We do good in UDFA for offensive players but defensively we don't find a lot of guys.

Just once i'd love to find that Richard Sherman as well.

Jay Ratliff was the a great find for a year or 2.

IMO, if you want to find that late round corner they need to be a big guy and not some Josh Thomas type.

Derrick Thomas was drafted ahead of Deion Sanders in 89' draft.
Von Miller was drafted ahead of Patrick Peterson in the 11' draft.

QB's/offensive coordinators fear pass rushers - they collapse the pocket and force the QB to make mistakes (which allows gloried athletes in the secondary the opportunity to make a play).

Take the best rusher in this draft who can play inside & outside and, also can hold the line of scrimmage against the running game ~ Bosa.

I'm wondering if we still employ the scouts who passed on Richard Sherman for Josh Thomas. Or the guys who graded Mo Claiborne worthy of using a 1st and 2nd round pick when Josh Norman lasted until the 4th round?

That's grounds for termination in my book.

Even our former $50 million cornerback was someone else's 5th round pick first.

Pretty simple.

You can't just scratch off a position to draft in the first round because of past failures. Maybe Ramsey is a bust. But if your scouts believe he's a player (or any DB is a player going forward) you can't say, "#$%#, we botched Claiborne............ so we can't take a DB ever again in the Top 10."

Scandrick isn't Sherman or Norman, but he was a pretty good find in the 4th. He's among a small handful of the best slot CBs in the league.
