Claiborne is looking to make a return during Training Camp, but he has a lot to overcome. Assuming he is healthy this year, it has to be recognized that it is a contract year for him. I think we will get the best effort out of him that his health can manage. His entire career is basically resting on this one year for him.

I also hope that Carr takes that pay cut. I think he still has a role here for now, but at his level of compensation it just doesn't make sense. I'm still mad the Cowboys didn't get Tillman, who would have at least been a low cost insurance policy.

I always wish the best for this guy, but he does not ever come off as a guy that burns to win.
You never hear about how he studies film. How he's the first one in and the last to leave. Works with coaches and players to improve technique...
I don't recall anything saying that about him.

I still don't. Anyone tweet how he's in Valley Ranch studying film? Working out? Anything? Ever?

I've lost hope on this guy and Byron Jones is the Anti-Claiborne: Smart, studies, desire to win, and measurables Clai could only dream of.
Let's go Jones!

Edit: I do recall the tweets last year about his battles with Dez and the year before in camp. Big whoop. That all really lead to something... So I don't want to hear it about that stuff because it happened in two consecutive camps and both years he underwhelmed when he did play.

I wouldn't mind signing Claiborne after this season to a cheap extension...obviously not picking up his 5th year option was smart but I'd like to not completely give up on him...I can't imagine he'd be too expensive on the open market

Do you hear this about anyone on the team outside of 3-5 players?

OK- let me be blunt. I severely question his desire to be great. Point blank. How do you refute?

I can't say for certain whether he has desire to be great.. I can't say he doesn't either

I can say that up until now, he sucks

Do you see Dallas cutting Carr if he won't take a pay cut?
I don't see any way they will cut him when they have the cap space available. He is a starter in this league.

Like the guy is going to try harder this year. He has been trying from day one. Just not the football player we thought he would be.

I can say up until now he looks clueless on the field. Like he hasn't even paid attention in the film room.
He looks like he has no instincts and that is because he has no idea what he is supposed to do to the point of instincts dominating when in the fire.

Anyone can argue injuries stopping from progress, but he has shown just about zero improvement from year to year.
None. I argued for him all the way up to now. Now... after rewatching the games he played... Man, I hope he turns everything around. I don't think he will, but I hope he does.

Cap space doesn't exist in a bubble, it's a fluid number that encapsulates multiple years. You don't keep Carr because you have cap space, because you can still use that cap space for other things or in other years. Cutting him opens up a lot of future cap space and we're going to be in position of needing that money to retain some players on defense next year. Hell we still need to lock up Dez long term.

I would bet real dollars this team does not cut Carr. Not this year.

I think anything Claiborne provides this year is gravy now that we've added Jones. If he doesn't return by camp, I'm not sure he'll be able to climb any higher than fourth on the depth chart.

No way the Cowboys pay him 8 million in base salary this year. I was stunned they didn't have him take a pay cut last year.

Well once healthy, he would push Jones to Free Safety, and Wilcox and Church would probably fight it out for Strong Safety. Jones would come down when needed to cover larger receivers.

While Claiborne sucks and it's not likely he will turn things around ...especially w the serious nature of his injury...many other players have been able to do it...so it's not impossible..just not probable

I respect your opinion on this matter. Honestly. I'm not omniscient and you are (admittedly in my mind) a tremendous poster, but I think you are wrong wrong wrong.
Carr may take a paycut, but if he doesn't- I don't believe he will be cut. He'll be right here.

Now- if I'm wrong and you and I both remember, I will bow down. I don't think I will be bowing down to anyone anytime soon though...
