Isn't the injury he had pretty much right below micro fracture surgery in terms of difficulty to come back from? I wanted Mo to be good and if he does end up turning it around i feel like it will be for another team

Restructuring Romo gives us flexibility to do what we want with the cap, it costs us nothing to do it. Worst case scenario we don't use the money and it carries over to next year anyway. We've restructured Romo well within the confines of his contract length, and have a very healthy cap moving forward.

Carr might get snatched up quickly, but he and the Cowboys both know what his market value is and that is probably 2-4 million a year. If he takes the appropriate cut, this could be a very good place for him with the increased pass rush. My guess is they would want to redo his contract for something along the lines of two years 8 or 9 million dollars.

I believe you are underestimating his value on the open market. Cary Toast Williams just got 3 years 18 million when he was cut by the Eagles and signed with the Seahawks. If he is worth 6 million per year then Carr is also. I agree that Carr is overpaid....but unless you can really replace him then he holds the power. They say something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Well our CB situation has us in the position that we need to pay Carr the 8 million.

If we wanted to cut Carr then we should have moved on it when we could go out and replace him. Unfortunately that time has passed and I just can't see how we are a better team to not have him on it. Regardless if we are over paying his production.

Knowing that its a contract year....i'm expecting not only his best year as a pro(which won't be hard) but a healthy year. Should help our secondary out tremendously. Hopefully he gets a training camp.

I always wish the best for this guy, but he does not ever come off as a guy that burns to win.
You never hear about how he studies film. How he's the first one in and the last to leave. Works with coaches and players to improve technique...
I don't recall anything saying that about him.

I still don't. Anyone tweet how he's in Valley Ranch studying film? Working out? Anything? Ever?

I've lost hope on this guy and Byron Jones is the Anti-Claiborne: Smart, studies, desire to win, and measurables Clai could only dream of.
Let's go Jones!

Edit: I do recall the tweets last year about his battles with Dez and the year before in camp. Big whoop. That all really lead to something... So I don't want to hear it about that stuff because it happened in two consecutive camps and both years he underwhelmed when he did play.

He literally has a reserved parking spot at VR for outstanding work in the offseason. He works hard. i think he doesn't play through injury very well and has wavering confidence as a result of it.

Claiborne is looking to make a return during Training Camp, but he has a lot to overcome. Assuming he is healthy this year, it has to be recognized that it is a contract year for him. I think we will get the best effort out of him that his health can manage. His entire career is basically resting on this one year for him.

I also hope that Carr takes that pay cut. I think he still has a role here for now, but at his level of compensation it just doesn't make sense. I'm still mad the Cowboys didn't get Tillman, who would have at least been a low cost insurance policy.

Why take a cut at this point though? How does it benefit the Cowboys this season?

I agree but I think they played the card too soon, because they were expecting to sign a FA or re-sign Moore.

How do you know they've asked him to take a pay cut, do you have a link to a source? All I've heard is media speculation and Carrs agent saying he wouldn't take a pay cut.

Until they actually talk, its much ado about nothing

I wouldn't mind signing Claiborne after this season to a cheap extension...obviously not picking up his 5th year option was smart but I'd like to not completely give up on him...I can't imagine he'd be too expensive on the open market

If he could play special teams and provide depth I'd be all for it but he's a cover guy that is average at best at covering.

They made no effort to resign Moore and instead signed Corey Moore for the same money.

I think they mis-gauged the market for him, I believe they had intended to re-sign him until TB gave him decent money, more than Dallas was willing to give him.

It is tough injury, Victor Cruz has the same type. NYG fanboys think he will be just as key as ever.

I thought Sterling Moore would be a great addition last year, I was dead wrong. He looked terrible a lot of the time. Corey White was a good offseason addition though, I am actually excited to see what he can do here.

They wont. He called there bluff and won IMO. I dont think Free had much of a market when they threatened to cut him. Carr can get 7-8 million per somewhere

Not if the cowboys wait to release him when there are no more big money contracts to be given. The pay cut he gets from Dallas will still be higher than what other teams can pay.

That's what I've always heard: a very hard worker, and a very nice guy who's soft mentally and who doesn't play through injury.

I'd like to see Claiborne finally healthy so we can see what he can or can't do. Do or die year for him I agree. He will step on the field with the best pass rush we've had in a while so he really has no excuses. Just stay healthy!

On the other hand is the case of Carr. I don't see him taking a pay cut so a decision will have to be made there. Frankly I don't care what the Cowboys do because I know whatever the decision is, it will be best for business.

I think Mo gets a little bit of a bad rap. He's actually fine technique wise, but a bad scheme to start off with, combined with injuries caused him to lose confidence and play tentatively. I fear (for lack of a better term) him leaving and becoming a defensive Jimmy Smith.

I will not discount you, brother Fuzz. Fellow Spursfan in Arms and resident smarter than the average poster on the site.
I have been at this man's side since he was drafted and stood there and followed his progress from Day 1. I may have missed a thing or two, but I didn't miss much...

Boy, do I want this guy to show up big this year, but I have said that every year since he's joined the Cowboys... Like a doting parent of a troubled child- maybe I need to learn.
I understand injury and bad luck and all that rot... It just sure would be nice if he could transcend all that and be Pick 6 for us for just one year. This one would be the best, but last year would have been better since this is basically a contract year for him and you can never truly trust players on their contract years.

No bueno in the world of the NFL unless you are a transcendent talent and he is not.
Not anywhere close. He better turn things around big time just for his career because the way the Boy's have been doing business the past few years...
Even if he does have a good year they won't keep him. His day is done here after this year unless he does things BIG and in a BIG way ALL year.

Even then I wouldn't guarantee anything for him with this team.

I thought he played decent this past season before he got hurt. Even had a game sealing INT

I recall moments of good play interspersed with tons of plays of him thinking before moving and the WR just doing what they need to do while he thinks.
Once in a while he succeeded. Like what you mentioned. Many, many more times he was not doing what any of us would hope him to be doing.

Many more.

I think Mo gets a little bit of a bad rap. He's actually fine technique wise, but a bad scheme to start off with, combined with injuries caused him to lose confidence and play tentatively. I fear (for lack of a better term) him leaving and becoming a defensive Jimmy Smith.

He came in with that wrist injury and missed a big part of his rookie camp. Then he wasn't strong enough for bump-and-run against the bigger WRs, which hurt him early in his career. He was always better in man coverage than in zone. He added strength and had that aggressive camp where he and Dez were mixing it up and we were hopeful, and then struggled with the soft tissue injuries. All of that accumulated and he lost a bit of confidence in himself. He worked really hard again in the offseason to come back stronger, and things were going well for him early (especially in press). Then he got beat and demoted, and it unraveled for him a bit. He threw the tantrum and left the facility, got hurt again, and that was all she wrote.

He is what he is. He's a hard worker. He wants to be good. He's got a lot of ability. He wasn't strong enough early on, and he's not very good in zone because (I think) he's not completely confident re: his responsibilities.

We'll probably play more press this year, which will be good for him. If he gets his confidence going, he could still be a good contributor. And I don't think it's a given we wouldn't extend him if he can demonstrate that he can play the system for us. Though it would be at a discount to what he's been paid previously. Though, honestly, a change of pace might be the best thing for him next year.
