The ironic part of the Ware release

Sounds like he had same yeat here last year and then there this year.
Second half of the season not as productive.

So maybe it would have been best to cut his salary in half and ask him to show up in week 9 for the stretch run.

Nick Eatman has said many times that Ware offered to take less money but the Cowboys just wanted to go in another direction. He definitely wanted to be here. We did fine without him though in my opinion.

Less still meant 10M per year.

I only remember Ware offering to restructure, not actually take less money

It was all rumor either way. There was never a statement by Ware or the Cowboys as to the specifics of the negotiations.

Yikes.
None in the last 5 games and only 1 in the last 7.
I'm sure if he was rotating it may have helped a small amount, but not at all for the cost.

Ware disappeared on Denver and would have done the same in Dallas. Love him but he is a declining player. The Irony is that his season lasted a few hours longer than the Cowboys.

Now Denver is stuck with expensive vets, a QB in limbo, and no coach. Ware will never get a ring

Ware disappeared Sunday like he disappeared every big game he ever played here.

Releasing Ware was more about talent than money at this stage in his career. Jerry Jones commented after the GB game last year that Ware did absolutely nothing against a 4th rd rookie. Zip. Nada. I think that game sealed his fate for the following year. The Cowboys didn't even attempt to negotiate with him. Thanks for the memories but you have nothing left in the tank.

Ware was good, really good, really really good in his prime. But, to me, he was content with just that, 'good.' He didn't have that something extra which differentiates the 'great' from the 'really, really good' players. Every once in a while he would show a flash of greatness but it was only a tease.

Nice guy. Really good player. Cowboy's all-time sack leader. Ring of Honor worthy? I know a lot of people think he is but, I am not so sure. I wouldn't be upset if he got in. I wouldn't be upset if he didn't get in. Really don't care one way or the other. Just like I really didn't care if he left for Denver or stayed in Dallas this year.

He will be in the ring of honor for two reasons, 1) he was very good player for the Cowboys, 2) JJ can put one of "his players" in without any stigma being attached is Jimmy, like Troy, Emmitt, Michael, Woodson. JJ will have Larry, Ware, Romo, Witten and maybe Dez and Tyron before he passes.

Ware and Von were a no show on Sunday. Ware was a great player for us but he's a shell of himself now

Ware got $20MM guaranteed. The Broncos are stuck with him next year unless they want a lot of dead money.

Ware disappeared Sunday like he disappeared every big game he ever played here.

This isn't talked about enough. I would've been sick to see him go somewhere else and play well in a big game or even win one.

T
I respect the guy for what he did for us, but this defence would not have been the same with him in it. The WE-fence just had a bunch of hard working guys who no one expected to do anything, relying on Ware for the pass rush would have changed the vibe. Heck, maybe we can't afford guys like Mincey and McClain if he's still here

To me he would have only been effective as a situational pass rusher, and with his price tag , we & he would never be able to live with that.

:hammer:

Why does everyone still talk about this dude? He's not a playmaker and faded at the end of most seasons and just disappeared. He did the same for Denver. So how would that benefit us? He didn't do anything for years here.

One of the most overrated players I can remember.

I agree. Ware was so darn annoyingly over hyped here it was ridiculous. It was almost as annoying as the Ratliff band wagon.

Agreed. I cringed any time I heard the media say how he was one of the best players in the NFL. Not even close. I can name you one single play he ever made that had any impact. The strip sack on Brees in 2009.

Lawrence matched that and then some last week.

Denver found out he was not what he was cracked up to be at the end of their season into the playoffs. He reverted back to D Where?
