Yep, in effect Jerry has created the illusion of CAP space, that's earmarked for 2026 rollover.

Jerry has deflected the narrative. He's created an 'artificial' $50m to placate fans and get a positive media spin that he COULD be spending. As per last year, and you correctly point out, he could hold onto this CAP, extend Micah and then use his famous mumbled word salad to get around that he'll need to rollover CAP to cover the massive 2026 increases in the hits on Micah and Osa.

I am fairly certain they will not deviate from their standard operating procedure. I'm just wondering who is getting the money. Even if they roll over 20m, that leaves close to 35m left. Signing Parsons just adds about 10m to that 35m. Where is it going? I guess we'll find out.

He made a total mess of 2024, because he could choose between the polarized paths of: Going again in a last ditch effort... an ALL-IN behind a 3x 12-5 team. Or breaking it up, trading everything of value, and re-tooling......
.......Jerry chose, the Just Enough, Relevancy Route, which fell apart, in part due to injury. He's never going to change, because he's afraid that one day his team and himself WONT be in the media spotlight.

As mentioned by Nick Harris.....DLaw. Golston, J-Lew, Dowdle, Cooks, Kendricks. Lance et al would come to far short of $40m.

If we extend Parsons, how does that effect this years CAP Hit, as he's on the 5th year option? Are we able to:
  • add his existing $24m 2025 salary into Signing bonus and spread it out to actually lower the CAP Hit in 2025,
  • the extension doesnt start until 2026 so its still a $24m hit in 2025
  • the Signing Bonus can be paid and take effect in 2025...to actually raise his 2025 CAP Hit.

It would be interesting to get Jerry's take on what could be done (id doubt he'd be able to come up with an answer).....not that I know the possibility.

What I do know, is that ive taken redundancy to look after my octogenarian mother, whilst nowhere near Jerry's wealth, she's pretty well off.......SHE ACTS AS IF SHE's ON THE BREADLINE. This is probably Jerry's standpoint (btw she's got Alzeihmers)
 
They pander to the fans who don't really follow football as closely as most of us do. The average cowboy fan is a pom pom shaker and can probably name maybe 10 players on the team. So, when it gets around social media that Jerry is cheap, they make statements to satiate the fan base. Most fans don't understand the salary cap has a minimum spend level that obligates every team. Its true. They do spend money. They just don't maximize how much they could spend.

His extension wouldn't start until 2026, but the extension itself allows them to restructure 2025. You just take that 24m, add it to the extension, then structure the contract any way you want. So 2025 could be a 12m cap hit.

Look at Lamb. I don't remember what his 5th year option amount was, but it was higher than 8.7m, and that's what it was reduced to after signing.

Cheers......so the idea that we're restructuring the Dak et al contracts to save money for a Micah extension's incorrect.
Which brings us back to the question, why restructure Dak at this particular moment (if its not for media attention). Indeed any player's agent will be able to play hardball in negotiations by taking the line..... "Jerry, you can afford the CAP, you've got $50m sitting there at the momnet". A better negotiating tactic would be, not to extend yet and plead, we're running with the minimum CAP, try and get a better deal, with a backstop of extending Dak later if need be.

I'm puzzled by the Dak restructure because I don't know what it's for. When they structured his extension, the first year was 89m, and the 3rd year was 61m. Why not just swap those two out if you needed the extra money, that's almost 30m right there. Then they wouldn't need to restructure now. It's like needing a sawblade on a 10 foot pole, but you only buy the 5 foot pole, a week later buy a 5 foot extension. What is he doing?

We're agreeing that there's no reason why they should of restructured at this time. Indeed, even if Jerry decided to make a splash in the upper echelons of FA, there's no point in telegraphing it before hand. Add in the opinion that surely Dak's contract should be the last one that's restructured due to the millstone it will create if he's on a steep injury plagued downward spiral.
Perplexing decision all round (unless its for publicity and positive media spin, to deflect criticism)?

Yeah you're right. Normally he keeps that space locked up in order to cry cap space. But after over a decade, who believes Jerry is going to all of a sudden pick up high priced FAs? He's giving that impression. I have to see it to believe it.

On Dak. His dead cap is going to be up the wazoo when he leaves.

Because they may want an option to potentially trade him in the future. No way you are trading a $90M QB salary.

In a trade, the team getting Dak only pays the base salary. Not much else beyond that. Only Dallas had to pay 90m. If they trade Dak after this year, his cap hit for the next three years is around 40, 45, and 55m for the team that gets him. Only Dallas pays 70m to the cap if they keep him.

His no trade clause also complicates any trade. Dallas has no leverage.
