Why? Why are they so cheap nowadays?

Has anyone discovered an actual reason for this? Is it all just Stephen just being the anti-Jerry?

I get that they already make huge profits so "winning" isn't a necessity... but wouldn't they WANT to win to build up their legacies? Considering they make huge profits regardless?

Rex Ryan says he turned down the DC job last year... because of the low salary offer.

Mike McCarthy is no longer the head coach because the sides "couldn't reach an agreement" (AKA Mike was getting low-balled).

We have spent NOTHING on outside free agents recently. This tweet says it all on that front.

What did we do to deserve this?

Why don't these jerks just sell the team for a record-breaking sum if they're no longer interested in building a championship team???

what does he have to spend it on?

I think they paid Dak and CeeDee in order to "stay relevant."

There was never any thought about, "Now how do we surround those guys with more studs so we can compete for Super Bowls?"
No disagreement there, its just not a great way to run your franchise if you wont throw more money at the roster. Two guys on offense just isnt a realistic solution to even staying relevant.

They did for sure, now its just another huge money making busines they own..Brian B. said the other day that calling the Jones lazy is incorrect, saying they do not have the time to be a real NFL FO would be spot on...12 business meeting a day with only 1 scheduled for the Cowboys business was regular when he was there.
I would believe it. Its almost like they need....a General Manager to run things?

It is a form of Control. You are not going to pay top $ for a Coach and the not take there advice, while forcing your agenda on them. What would be the point if that?

I’ve thought this in the past. They think they can be the patriots under Bellicheck and Brady. Run an organization and have a revolving door of players/quality signings. In otherwords they think they are smarter than everyone else.

Have to prove they can win without spending a ton of money.

Quite the team building philosophy they have going on. Refuse to spend of coaches AND players. Hard to believe it’s been 30 years…..

I think you have to differentiate spending on capped spend (players) versus uncapped spend (coaches, facilities, doctors, etc.).

The former is (to an approximation) a fixed quantity. You can't overspend or underspend. There is some ability to shift timing around, but you have to basically hit the cap and you can't exceed it. At that point, it basically becomes a strategic game of what do you spend on. Either strategy (own players or fresh ones) can have merit and fans will criticize either approach, when the team is losing.

Spending on uncapped items is a different thing...and an argument can be made that this is a way for deeper pocket owners (or those more interested in prestige than personal profits) may try to buy wins with luxury facilities and pricey coaches. But even this is no guarantee. Look at the Chiefs...they have the worst facilities in the League, but are the winningest team.

And with coaches, you can go high priced. Washington under Gibbs 2.0 had Gregggg Williams as DC with an almost HC salary...and it worked relatively well. The Rams also had Wade Phillips at a near HC salary and it seemed to work for a few years...but they also moved on from him at some point.

I do think there's an argument to be made not to be cheap with coaches (in $/year or # of years). Last season, the Skins dicked around and got stuck with Quinn as a last place consolation. Fans were apoplexed that Ben Johnson might have asked for a high salary or six years. But that's what Macdonald got in Seattle, what whatsisname got in San Diego, and what even Morris got in Atlanta. It's sort of the new norm. Doesn't stop from firing a coach and just eating the remnant contract. So you really don't lose option value, if you are willing to eat the cost (not cheap) to pay off departed coaches. [You may need to eat some significant costs with firing the rest of the staff too, when the new HC comes in...but again it's just money, uncapped money.]

The didn’t have a lot of free cap. Same deal with 2025.

NFL salary cap Rules.

there are several “tricks” teams use to stretch the numbers:

void years, extensions, top 51, ….

but it always catches up.

What screams 'cheap' is the fact that Jerry is worth over 14 billion and won't pay his head coach even .05% of his total net worth. That's about 7 mil if you are wondering. It's like putting a hand into the piggy bank and grabbing a handful of quarters, but Jerry still refuses to do it.

The man just flat out isn't interested in building a winner and it's past time for him to admit it to the fans. He never will, of course, because he doesn't have the balls to face the backlash he would receive. Just put an end to all the BS. If winning isn't a priority just say so. That way people can decide on their own if watching the Cowboys purely for entertainment is worth their time. It's kind of where the franchise is at right now anyway.

Sidenote:

This is why it was always so stupid to blame "DAK'S CONTRACT" for our "inability" to participate in free agency.

Don't let the Jones boys off the hook like that.

Philly paid their QB too, and look how aggressive they are. Look how many studs they're paying on the offensive side of the ball.
Philly likes winning and competing for championships. That isn't a priority for the Jones'.

The stupidest thing about this is the Cowboys paid a good QB like a great one. So what is the difference if you overpay your own player or someone else's?

And, btw, does anyone think the Eagles and Ravens overpaid for Barkley and Henry? Stephen seems dumb to me.

Same thing the Packers and Eagles did. Good QBs get paid, period.

Difference is those teams didn't decide that's ALL they're going to do.

They got cheap sometime after the stadium was built. I believe they got cash strapped and decided they didn't want to be in that situation again.

What really hurts about the Cowboy's downward spiral is I'm also a Pittsburg Pirates fan and it's official, I back two professional teams that have the worse owners in all of professional sports........................
