The keepers

McGovern is a 3rd round pick. 3rd round guards should not need this much time to develop. I am not sure what his deal is other than maybe he is just a career backup and should have been drafted in the 5th or 6th round.

This much time???????????

McGovern has only played 6 games, he was hurt last year in camp. Geez, give the kid a chance...

Of course he missed all of his rookie season, but maybe they think he is developing fine, but just not enough to take the position away from Williams (or Martin:)).

Woods, Gregory and Lawrence as keepers? Are you kidding me. So you are Jerry level serious about getting better not actually serious. These guys have been here for YEARS and are way more a part of the problem than the solution.

Hah hah. I would say the opposite. Chido has gotten a chance and failed. Lewis thanks to Mr I need 6’2” cornerbacks has never really had his shot. I think he has shown more in limited time.

Lewis has played a lot this year. And not been all that good.

I had hopes for Lewis too but this season is showing maybe Richard was right.

You are letting your overall bitterness cloud rational thought. Lawrence is still a really good DE and this chatter that he's lazy and just packs it in is false. Gregory is a very good situational DE. Why would you cut a guy like that who is also going to be really cheap?

Woods? OK, that one I could see moving on from. The other two is just fan bitterness.

Yes, people see Lawrence's contract and think he should be the top DE in the league, on a poor overall defense, just because he gets paid a lot....

If Dalton comes back and plays well, he will likely have a market so I doubt he comes back. Aldon Smith who is tiring needs to have his playing time reduced but I would resign. Thomas not sure about. Woods (Safety) no, time to move on

Gregory is a privileged player. Years without production then suddenly he is on the team. He is not committed to winning football. He is a Jerry special. We rely on guys who are always hurt or never around. It has to stop.

D Law does not serve a purpose here anymore. He is not worth the money and he is a terrible influence on the rest of the team.

I was trying to go through the 53 and see who I would keep as we move into 2021 and who should be cast aside. This is just how I feel, but I suspect some guys I don't want will be back due to contracts, etc.

QB - Dak, Dalton (again, you aren't going to find a great backup)
TB - Pollard
WR - Cooper, Gallup, Brown, Lamb, Wilson
TE - Jarwin, Schultz
OT - Smith, Collins, Knight
OG - Martin, McGovern, Williams
C - Biadasz, Looney

I know people will roll their eyes at Williams and Looney but honestly, I think both are, at the very least, good backup types. I don't need Elliott back but he'll be back because of the contract.

DE - Lawrence, Gregory
DT - Woods, Hill
LB - Thomas, LVE
CB - Awuzie, Diggs
S - Woods

That's really thin on defense and some of these guys like Awuzie and Woods, I know people think aren't ery good but I have a slightly higher opinion. And Hill at DT showed to at least be serviceable, even as a backup DT. Woods as well at DT.

Going to be a fascinating offseason especially with the cap constraints we are going to have.
Robinson needs to be activated immediately. Anae needs to split snaps with Tank. We could actually have a good four man pass rush from the outside. Stop with the Thomas is better than Jaylon. He is not. Jaylon is the highest rated linebacker on the team. The defensive tackles are trash. Keep the young guys because they are cheap. The only keepers I see on defense is DLAW and Diggs. LVE needs to make it through a season without getting hurt. I am not sure if the Cowboys should pick up his 5th year option. This a bad team. I would blow it all up except for the receivers, the offensive line (Tyron, Martin, Biadasz, Collins), DLaw and Diggs. Dak (contract) is the wild card. I wish we had a real front office that could figure it out.

This year? Everything on that defense is broken this year.

He was a ball hawk and fierce tackler when given opportunities last season. Sophomore let down? Should be given a chance.
I agree. He has never had the shot. I think Dallas needs to decide between he and Chido so he should get plenty of play the next 8 weeks.

Lewis has played 67% of the snaps this season.

He played 55% last season and 71% in 2017.

He was better this week but he has been awful prior to the week and was awful all of last season.

There are still 8 games left in the season and these last 8 games are going to show us a lot of these players. Let's see who plays hard when the Cowboy are out of the race.

I understand the talk about Awuzie, but when he comes back from injury we will have a really good opportunity to see if he makes a difference. Lewis looks like he tries, but is it is hard to tell how good or bad he is because other teams are throwing at Diggs all game. I like Chido as a player. I think he has potential but he has to stay healthy.

I watched Hamilton last night and I saw some push and power to his play. One of the DTs was facing an OG one one one and it was a good opportunity to see if any of our DTs had anything worth keeping. From what I saw Hamilton showed more power and disruption than any of the other DTs. Gallimore is a rookie and needs experience but I think he will be okay. Hamilton has experience and might be a decent rotational guy. They need their own Fletcher Cox though.

Overall the defense played much better last night, even Jaylon Smith who started the game off looking like his usual self but then he improved as the game played out. LVE was much better, but I would still like to see one of both of them attack the LOS more. The reason the run defense is so bad is because our LBs and safeties wait until the play comes to them rather than getting to the play as it develops.

The Cowboys safety play is horrendous. I don't believe Wilson is the answer just because he showed up on 2 plays. Might be a decent backup but he needs to get a lot better.

On offense, There isn't much to say. The trick play calling I think hurt DiNucci early. It also made it hard to evaluate the offensive players. I think only one of those trick plays worked all night. And one got blown up badly. The rest went for no gain. Why can't the Cowboys run bubble screens and screen effectively?

Martin is obviously a huge difference maker on the OL. Losing him for most of the Cards game and the entire Washington game made a big difference.

Your posts are among the most insightful I have read. What is it that he doesn't do? I'm sure I have some bias (his aggression) and my lack of watching all the games and seeing the plays. Now, I have seen him get toasted on some plays this year. So, I have doubts.

But Gregory costs you nothing. Why would you just toss aside a talented guy who doesn't cost you really any money at a key position?

That makes zero sense. And your idea that Lawrence is a terrible influence on the D is just crazy. It's been said, he's one of the more vocal guys in the clubhouse. I totally disagree with your assessments here.

You mean we should take Lawrence off the field and put Anae in for half his snaps? Or you mean put Anae in at the DE spot opposite Lawrence for half the snaps?

And even if Smith is the highest rated LB on our team, he's still not all that good. He's a mediocre, at best, LB at this point.

How did Awuzie fail, exactly?

We suck man. We should not use DLAW up for the meaningless final 8 games. Robinson and Anae should have been on the field yesterday. Let’s stop blaming Smith for the Joneses over pay. We all would have signed that contract.

Ehhhh, I am not sure he's good enough to warrant coming back, but I guess he could be a serviceable backup.
Hes playing better than Woods and Woods is in a contract year. Hes trash and wed be dumb to bring him or the other Woods OR Awuzie back.

I'd drop Chido and S- Woods. Woods is garbage and I'd go as far as saying Chido might be average at best.

Besides, aren't both of them on the last year of their rookie deal? Do you see Jerry giving these guys new contacts? I wouldn't.
Exactly. People hate on jerry but want tp make Jerry moves. No contender will sign either guy to start next year. Id bet anything on that

He missed first camp and most of this
Even 3rd rnd picks generally need reps
He’s had very few practice reps in his 2 years
He may be fine once he gets to actually work on his game
