The keepers

He missed first camp and most of this
Even 3rd rnd picks generally need reps
He’s had very few practice reps in his 2 years
He may be fine once he gets to actually work on his game
Just in time for another team to sign him in FA and enjoy his 10 year career.

Maybe this new D scheme is weird for most of the players. It was good to see Tank, LVE, and Diggs representin' last night. Gregory had his moments as well. We need new DTs though.
Jaylon, TCraw, and Steele - don't let the door hit ya in the keister on the way out.

Other than D-Law and Diggs, I don’t need to keep anyone else on this defense. Maybe Trysten Hill. I understand that the salary cap makes that impossible, but no one on defense outside those 2 do anything for me. I’m fine moving forward assessing Gallimore, Anae, and Robinson, but the entire secondary, the LBs, and the interior lineman need massive overhaul. This D is so soft up the middle, it’s tough to watch.

I was trying to go through the 53 and see who I would keep as we move into 2021 and who should be cast aside. This is just how I feel, but I suspect some guys I don't want will be back due to contracts, etc.

QB - Dak, Dalton (again, you aren't going to find a great backup)
TB - Pollard
WR - Cooper, Gallup, Brown, Lamb, Wilson
TE - Jarwin, Schultz
OT - Smith, Collins, Knight
OG - Martin, McGovern, Williams
C - Biadasz, Looney

I know people will roll their eyes at Williams and Looney but honestly, I think both are, at the very least, good backup types. I don't need Elliott back but he'll be back because of the contract.

DE - Lawrence, Gregory
DT - Woods, Hill
LB - Thomas, LVE
CB - Awuzie, Diggs
S - Woods

That's really thin on defense and some of these guys like Awuzie and Woods, I know people think aren't ery good but I have a slightly higher opinion. And Hill at DT showed to at least be serviceable, even as a backup DT. Woods as well at DT.

Going to be a fascinating offseason especially with the cap constraints we are going to have.

The two on your list I question are Williams, and Woods. Both would be practice squad guys on any contending team. Woods is absolutely pathetic. Other than our man Steel, he’s the worst player on the field. Williams needs to prove himself this off season. If he doesn’t totally commit to getting better, stronger, and faster, see ya!!!

Also, because of the contract, you’re stuck with Zeke for at least two more years. You can’t have 15 million in dead money.

Yeah, I hear you. Just like baseball - you have to have a good catcher, 2nd baseman, and centerfielder.

McGovern is a 3rd round pick. 3rd round guards should not need this much time to develop. I am not sure what his deal is other than maybe he is just a career backup and should have been drafted in the 5th or 6th round.
I think he has been in the shadow of Williams in the same way that Schultz was in the shadow of Witten. Wrongly deprived of playing time.

I think LVE has promise unless he continues with injuries.

He’s the Zeke of the defense. He’s still young, but it’s almost as if the wear and tear has robbed him of burst and explosiveness. In Zeke’s case it’s the workload through 2 of his first 3 years, for LVE it’s the injuries. A neck injury or back injury is just debilitating.

Pretty sure I saw during the player intros that Williams is the 12th rated G by PFF, Martin is the 4th. Guards have not been our problem on the OL. McGovern is clearly not better than Williams at this time, and it is unlikely that he will overtake him anytime soon. Our OT's have been a dumpster fire without Tyron and La'el.

That's the thing, he doesn't have wear and tear. He is in his 3rd season and has only played one full season. I just don't think his body can handle the weekly car crashes of being and NFL LB.

but some players could be keeprs as backups. you need depth. of course depending on the cost. why not keep brown(DB). not the greatest, but certainly can play the slot and provide depth with starter experience.

I would also Keep Wilson. I would let Woods walk, unless he is a back up.

what about Aldon Smith? or Neville (rookie) or Hill (injured) they both provide depth if nothing else.

What about Zurlien?

you simply can't go shopping for 27 new players.

McGoverns problem so far has been health
It’s hard to develope without reps and you can’t get reps unless you are healthy
So far he hasn’t really had a training camp

Woods, I left on, because at worst, I think he's a serviceable 3rd or 4th safety. Williams is also a serviceable backup and I think he could be a good swing tackle in a pinch. We are seeing now how important it is to have at least serviceable backups along the OL.

I am sure a lot of guys will be back. These are just guys I think have to come back. I forgot Gallimore, so good catch there.

PFF is not persuasive to me. CW has not played that well.

Woods gotta go.
Wilson and Robinson are the two guys I'm starting for the rest of the year.

Donovan Wilson is a potential play-maker and has physical and mental grit on defense.

DLaw should be the first to go. Zeke a close second behind them. They are both too inconsistent for players that are top 3 paid at their position. Also we can actually get decent picks for them or players.

I haven't gave much attention to Biadasz.. How is he playing?
Saw him progress to the 2nd level, climbing the tree and get to a LB vs Philly,,, maybe @xwalker can endorse with the same acknowledgment .
Thats always a great sign of development from a rookie center.

I think a lot of this is influenced by the last game against a putrid Philly offense with nothing but JAGS at WR and RB. Our secondary is trash. Keep Diggs and hit reset. The interior of our DL is trash. They all need to go.

Brown is definitely back at CB....just signed an extension.
For all his bad play, I believe Steele will be back. Some of the first round OTs are struggling. Those guys need time and more strength. Steele needs a real offseason to build strength and be coached, but he hasn’t been all bad, and the experience he is getting this year is invaluable. Knight was also a bum, but he had time on the PS to develop before ever even being on the 53 roster.
