At this point, I just want players who don’t choke in big games.

Dak admittedly, he can play at a higher level than we saw down the stretch. Why? Because we’ve seen it. In October he looked like the MVP. It’s no coincidence the other parts of the offense were humming back then, too. More than anything, the Cowboys have to figure out what went wrong offensively after the bye. If they get that fixed, they’ll have a chance to contend again despite the inevitable roster turnover.
Thoughtful post without the Dak or JJ suck

Remember the Eagles & Giants have multiple number one picks in the draft and instead of Gettlemen and his mediocrity new eyes will be picking and you can’t count on playing Rutgers and Temple when visiting Jersey and Philly year after year .

Going to have to beat other teams then the broken Amtrak northeast corridor division come 2022 MM .
They are Rutgers and temple until they prove they’re not.

OBJ is a perfect example of guy this team doesn’t need. This culture is already full of guys who are more sizzle than steak.

Imagine what this team would have looked like the past 10 years if we would have had guys like the Hoodie, Brady, Edelman, Vrabel and Bruschi. If we would have paired them with players like Witten in his prime, Ware, Crawford in his prime and Sean Lee.

If you rattle off those names think about what this team would look and feel like in the locker room, on the field and off the field in the community. What the game of football would have meant with the Dallas Cowboys.

You will hear from diehard fans how difficult it is to win in today's NFL, but our team has a heritage of excellence from the greatest coach to ever walk our sidelines. We have lost that excellence.

We aren't expecting the SuperBowl every year, but no one would have expected the inconsistency that is plaguing this franchise. We should be the Patriots, not the Browns/Vikings/Bears/Titans/any middle of the road franchise.

Ultimately this shows that money won't buy you a championship. Despite what LA Rams did this year.

The numbers for Sean McVay prior to this year just shows he is building a culture that seems to be consistent. He's got a 70% career win percentage as a HC. His playoff win percentage is also 70%.

This guy was consistent in his performance. Then his GM went and got him some more bullets for an already accurate and consistent shooting gun.

We need to figure out how to shoot more consistently before we go buying new bullets. Maybe it is time to start talking seriously about the process we use to decide who will be our gunslinger. We bring out a new guy every so often only to see him shot dead when the bullets start to fly.

Why and when is Reader available?

I feel we are weak in the middle of both offensive and defensive lines
We would have to trade for Reader not a free agent till 2024 I believe.

They need Oline help and we have a bunch here we could trade them that we are unable to develop.
Reader is definitely a kind of player we need that we probably won't get

The key to shooting well is trigger control when we have somebody other than Jerry that can control the trigger better we too will shoot better

Unfortunately, this FO doesn't seem to think about multiple player trades like this. It makes the trade work done in the early 90's all the more impressive.

After a super bowl appearance in which Reader was absolutely instrumental, you think Cincy lets him go?

What happened is our running game got shut down by schemes designed to defend the pass. Never seen anything like that here. The year Henry went for 2k he averaged over 3.5ypc before first contact. Our RBs were barely getting to the LOS before first contact. And never seen our OL whiff on blocks like they did this year. Or just go block another guy and let a DL or LB get to our RBs untouched. Just crazy.

Don’t look any further than the players expressing interest in coming to the Cowboys to know why they want to come there. The latest, JuJu, actually mentioned the facilities.

There is also a deflective environment for players where they don’t catch the heat, the coaches do.

Look at the posts here blaming this coaching staff for the most penalties in the season and playoff game. What makes anyone here think these coaches do not address that as much as they are allowed?

I think there are two networks within the NFL, a coaches one and a players’ one and the players’ one has Dallas as a top rated destination…for all the wrong reasons. Comfortable, cushy and accountability at a very low level for players.

All you need to do is watch Gregory’s reaction after getting his second penalty to know what is wrong with this team. Do you think Martin, Haley, Tolbert or Ware would be laughing after doing that? How does that become OK for any player?

I think Reader fits this title perfectly. He is the kind of player that could fix our offensive line but we probably don't stand a chance to get him with Jerry and Steven at the controls

But I'll bet you if the Rams needed a player like that they would figure a way to get one

I was hoping they'd go after a player like DJ Reader. Nope
DJ Reader is a prime example of a guy that fills a need. The Cowboys have pass rushing taken care of. But what they need is a guy in the interior that will say "Ye Shall Not Pass" when someone tries running up the middle or anywhere inside. Having that guy changes things on the Defensive side.

Exactly and plays to our strength in the pass rush . This gives Diggs a chance to use his ball skills and get the offense back on the field
Imo this is the type player we need

For decades, the Cowboys have intentionally fashioned their players as “stars” with more “sizzle” than steak. Jerry has even stated publicly that he likes that. And let’s be honest- jersey sales are as important to the Jones boys as actual wins on the scoreboard.

Too many Cowboys players over this same segment of time have been given huge contracts based mostly on their perceived value rather than playoff accomplishments. Many are talented and worthy of a second deal, but for every good contract, there’s a Jaylon Smith or Jay Ratliff or Miles Austin. Guys that had some talent but weren’t really great for the team’s development.

With that in mind, here’s the kind of players the Cowboys would really be better served in pursuing in free agency (I realize that unfortunately we probably won’t have much cap room this year to pursue many FAs)
  • Blue collar type guys more interested in being part of a team than being in a TV commercial. As hard working as they are talented.
  • Young, emerging players who are just now developing into a better player (not a big name but a guy who is emerging quietly into an excellent player)
  • Veterans who may be near the end of their careers but have tons of playoff experience and locker room leadership skills.
  • Playoff experience should be a major premium. Especially guys who have a SB ring.
Too many of our players somehow feel entitled when they don the star. I hope we get the new blood that can instill some “you guys haven’t done much of anything” into the room instead of “Who’s got the best shoe deal?”

This organization need a cultural flush. I think getting more guys in here that are hungrier for a ring than they are for a VIP room hook-up at a club because they are a Cowboys player is more of what we need.

We need some players that are hungry and committed to win a championship. The Rams brought in three players Stafford, OBJ and Jalen Ramsey who got tired of playing for bad teams and wanted a ring. They added Von Miller who had a ring and knew what it took to win one.

so glad the Cowboys by passed Deion Sanders and didnt Super Bowl with him. Same thing of the Rams. They must be so happy they passed on OBJ, oh wait...
Those other teams have great cultures….we currently don’t.

They did. They signed a similar, though not as good of course, player in FA in A'Shaun Robinson who performed very well in the super bowl at NT.
