Eh, everyone was keying on Turpin… so they make the initial pass to Turpin???

This sums my thoughts up pretty well just without calling out the lazy nature of the players on this play.

Yeah ok. Nothing would have changed. He would have still gotten tackled. It is interesting how it's one guys fault, but Schultz is off the hook for his end of game miracle.

Check it out and tell me how Dak didn't have time to get that ball out quicker to Turpin. He even had time to lob one up to the open area behind Turpin to give Lamb a chance.

they in essence had give up. chances of a successful play, against a good defensive team, in a defensive battle, from our 25 yard line, with a few seconds to go is about 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%.

People seem to have a hard time with separating the play from the individual efforts required to execute the play.

One can examine the play itself as a whole, AND/OR examine the efforts of each individual involved in executing the play. Two separate and unique discussions.

Why shouldn't Dak's execution of his responsibilities on the play be open for discussion?

The only real option for a desperation attempt in that situation was some sort of hook and ladder type play, which is what they tried to do. In order for there to be any chance at all, the hook has to get the ball with enough space to at least make a move, draw some coverage and get the ball over to the ladder. The opportunity to give that play at least a slim chance was there, but Dak failed to execute the first step.

I get that this is like arguing who would hit the ground first if we both jumped off the Empire State building together, but no matter the eventual outcome for both of us, one of us would hit the ground first.

From what I can see it was a hook and ladder (which are great at attacking defenses in an immediate different direction).
The 49ers didn't bite though. They had too many defenders within 20 yards.
Zeke at center? Dallas thought San Fran would forget about him and focus on others.
Following that plan, Turpin catches the ball, Zeke is now the open pitch man and receives pitch from Tuprin running hard to the left at full speed (I know Zeke at full speed is laughable but I'm sure it was designed for Pollard).
Downfield to the left are three Dallas blockers (one who is fast and can circle back for a pitch).
In theory it had a chance to do what Kansas City did to Dallas a few years back just before halftime (throw the ball short, then block like heck).
It had a definite Boise State feel to it.

Does any team have a play for fourth and goal from their own 20? The game ended on the play before when the receiver couldn't get his feet down. At least then they would have been in heave territory.

I understand......there's so much love for KMoore play calling. The last play, which it was I was referring to in my post........denied in the Pee Wee League unless you got Big Junior towering over the rest of the 6 year old kids.

Yes. That was embarrassing. I suspect whatever play Dallas was running against San Fran would have worked against that Dallas defense.
