From the airwaves of Air America Cowboys in Farmers Branch, where truth is a close friend, the affinity for American Values is an everyday thing, where the women all drive pickups and where the word "howdy" is in everybody's vocaculary.

Leonard Davis, OT/OG, Cowboys: It seems weird the Cowboys would give him so much money – an $18 million signing bonus – and they're not even sure if he'll play guard or tackle.
~ David Perloff of SI.com

Seems that his skills are not that much criticized as is his big payday.

Isn't it obvious, thats the going rate for a Olinemen right now. why's that so hard to figure out????

Is there an equal amount of outrage over what Dockery got? There should be, because he's not as good as Davis.

It doesn't matter how much he cost..

He fills an immediate need with questions surrounding Riveria's back and Columbo's UFA.

Was he overpaid? Sure.

Is he worth it? Time will tell.

I think the big pickle will be if Rivera is cleared to play and Columbo is resigned.

If Rivera retires or is cut and Columbo goes to Jets/Broncos, then I hope a Arron Sears, Ben Grubbs or Justin Blaylock is there when we pick or after we trade down.

Then again ... Ill take Anthony Spencer anyday!

I think these contracts are mis-leading...take a peak.

Over at the CowboysZone AdamJT13 posted these cap numbers for Leonard Davis' contract. BTW, AdamJT13 is an absolute god of the salary cap and other contractual matters. I bow to him.
2007 -- $3.667 million
2008 -- $4.417 million
2009 -- $7.917 million
2010 -- $7.667 million
2011 -- $8.667 million
2012 -- $9.667 million
2013 -- $7.600 million

The last three years is about 26 mil...he will NEVER see that money!

I bet he sees about 24 to 25 mil of this contract over the next 4 years.

That's still a ton of money, but is sounds crazier then it really is.

It's a fact that you guys overpaid. But if he fills a need hey, far be it for me to criticize. It's funny that a lot of you guys seem to be touting Big as a savior, yet laughing at us signing Johnson. I can tell you there is a lot of roasting in return of you guys for breaking the bank for LD.

IF the cap keeps going up for the whole time (not a sure thing but lets say it does) then by 2011 that might be CHEAP for a starting guard- especially if he is playing well and shows no signs of slowing down.

How did we overpay. Davis got what all the other Olinemen got. So I guess everybody overpaid.. That was the market this year.....

Davis>>>>>>Johnson

Davis fills a hole for us at RG. Johnson is a hole.

Breaking the bank?

Now I've seen it all. A Cards fan in here talking noise. You gotta be kiddin!!!!

Like any FA pickup how Davis performs will tell us if this was a mistake or not. It seems to me that FA has never shown itself to be a sure thing even with known vets

A team that has never even sniffed a Lombardi Trophy. Perpetual losing seaons. An owner who makes Danny Snyder look like a genius. A team that has no hope of getting to the Super Bowl. Ever.

Give him props for even showing up to badmouth the most glamorous, well-known team in the universe.

Card Loser, I salute you!!! :D

we probably did over pay. thats the market this year and you have to over pay to get players. was it a mistake? well the only way we will know that is to watch him on the field this season.if he can be a solid player then thats what the market was for solid players. if he is a bust then we screwed up. but no one knows till we hit the field and play a few games
