I'm a huge Romo supporter but I'm having a hard time sifting through all the excuse makers and blind haters.

I will say this post is fair.

All I say is to pinpoint our failures on Romo is looking at it blindly. There were alot of reasons, some were taken care of already, some have been promised to have been fixed, and some I still would like to be taken care of.

We will see how it works out.

Not a huge Romo fan but am a huge Cowboys fan. Romo just needs to come out this year and have a solid season from start to finish. Then, the Romo supporters won't have to pull up stats and breakdown every play of the games to justify his status as a top 5 QB. Ben R, Manning, Brady, Rivers, Warner, and Aikman don't need stats to justify thier status because they have won in Dec and Jan. You wont see this posted on a Pittsburg message board. From start to finish (and it doesn't have to be the SB) and then the critic can take some time off, until then y'all will be working overtime.

aikman had an excellent offense in 91 but they couldnt win a superbowl because the defense wasnt good enough.

aikman, irvin, emmit, novacek etc....were excellent all the time, but the defense wasnt. When the defense was up to par they won big.

Had drew pearson gone on the radio every day in the offseason of 91 and said irvin and emmit needed to shut up and play and not get blown out in detroit in the playoffs or at home to philly, irvin and emmit would have blown their lids and gone nuts.

as soon as romo has a defense that takes the ball away and dominates people on 3rd down and is a reason we win games, People will magically change their tune about him.

I dont remember people holding aikman and irvin and emmit responsible when Issac holt kept giving up big plays and jack del rio couldnt make tackles allowing the other teams to score or guys like jeff hostetler to throw for 400 yards. They would have gone nuts had they been blamed for those losses in those seasons.

Go ahead and call me a homer. I dont care, I am standing by the guy and I hope all cowboys fans need to do that when this season starts. I think the fans should be behind this team 110% this year because the numbers of the people in the stands could really elevate this team. Bickering over nonsense like his december numbers is ridiculous.

Homer. :D

Theebs, I'm sure I am not in your class of favorite posters on the board but I still enjoy your posts, videos, and other contributions when you have them during the season. That said, your homerrific siren is sounding off full blast right now.

Yes. Tony has been a stat machine and has come up big in a number of games. That said, I would think that even you can see that in the month of December and beyond he has faded every year he has started. Sure. Some of that can be attributed to poor line play. Some of it can be attributed to a lack of gray matter in the cerebral area of the coaches. Some of it can even be attributed to having to deal with abnormal personalities in the huddle. At the end of the day, it's still about Tony. He is the field general of one of the most storied sports franchises ever. When he fades in December at the helm of the Dallas Cowboys it's going to garner much greater recognition than it would if he was at the helm of sayyyy the Oakland Faiders. It's not a mirage. He has faded down the stretch thus far every single year. I'm hopeful this will be the year where it all comes together and, more importantly, Tony embraces "it" without looking back...

See, that's what I'm talking about. If we win this year you don't have to write a 4 or 5 paragraph response justifying his late season swoon. Just win baby.

No he didn't. The STEALERS won 4 Super Bowls in 6 years.

When the Cowboys players around Romo start playing like those Stealers teams did with Bradshaw then we will start winning championships. Romo is a MUCH better QB than Bradshaw ever was but the players around him are nowhere near what they were on those 70s Stealers teams.

What is it with you people anyway that you can't see that? :bang2:

Great QBs don't win SBs, great TEAMS do!

Umm, that wasn't my point Thumper.

My point was, you don't need a high rated QB to win a SB.

In other words, Romo's 94 QB rating is meaningless when it comes to your "team" winning SB's.

Career

11. Daunte Culpepper 89.0

16. Dan Marino 86.4
38. Troy Aikman 81.6
20. Brett Favre 85.4

Nuff said.

nuff said? not quite....

Daunte Culpepper is no hall of famer, but he was one of the most elite passers of this decade, before moss was traded, and his injuries got the best of him.

Dan Marino and Brett Favre are both in the top 10 in interceptions thrown. They're both gunslingers, and Dan Marino had the unfortunate pleasure of being on a team that forced him to throw to win games. Their QB ratings suffer because of this.

Troy Aikman's numbers are low for one reason. Dallas was a running offense. Especially in the redzone. Emmitt Smith... nuff said... how many qbs with running backs in the top 10 in rushing tds have great qb ratings?

The only way you can shut up those folks is with videos. If we had easily accessible game film to document exactly how poor Romo's protection was it would be a lot easier to objectively discuss his performance. Instead all we can do is stare at text and you get the same rhetoric from both sides.

You're the media man, is there any way to put together all of our offensive drives in a compilation? Or would that just be an insane amount of work.

People call me crazy but I think Romo has made our offensive line look much better than they really are. It almost seems as if he has an uncanny instinct to make the first guy miss from the blind side. He has to improvise because we can't sustain drives and have consistent excution across the board. Add in an banged up inconsistent offensive line, with confused receivers with histories of running 'anywhere' routes - you get a visibly frustrated Tony Romo forcing the ball to the only receiver he can trust.

While the QB is the MOST important player in terms of whether the team wins or loses, it's by far not the only important piece. Bradshaw was still a good QB and he had an exceptional defense (Steel Curtain). Like the Ravens Superbowl win, the Steelers did it with defense as much or more than offense.

Give Romo a Steel Curtain defense and I'd feel confident he could do some damage in December, January, etc as well.

OK, thanks for clarifying that. My apologies for misunderstanding your post and lumping you in with some others who blame Romo for us not winning playoff games.
