The lynchpin for me has always been Tyron Smith

I just didnt think it would happen this early. This season just went in the toilet, like it did last year when he went down. And Jerry has no one to blame but himself.

Another year wasted. The Eagles have to be the favorite to win the east now.

We HAVE to move on from Tyron Smith. Another Olineman has to be the #1 priority in the offseason.

What happened to all that big talk before Tyron went down, huh? They still have Dak right? I thought you told us he does not need all pros because he is so good and will save the day. Now, see, those who brag and talk all big usually run when the going gets tough and that is what you are now doing. DURR DURR giggle giggle giggle.

He who laughs loudest, laughs last.

I hare to break it to you but Smith has been a ball and chain the last 4 years. Ever since he reported a back injury and didn't want surgery he has been a shell of what he was. He is always injured and every year we hear about how great he feels. By week 6 he isn't practicing just as a precaution. He should of been gone a long time ago.

The OP makes a critical point. In the passing game, the importance of a left tackle, especially for a right handed quarterback, rises or falls with the voluntary or instinctive mobility of the signal caller.

Much emphasis has been put on Dak Prescott in his young career to stand tall in the pocket. Sometimes that emphasis has contributed to him holding the ball too long. That makes him an easier target for pass rushers. He is an easier target if his blindside blocker is a ready made turnstile.

Unless the offense plugs the hole made by Smith's absence, it should be Kellen Moore's primary responsibility to adjust the passing offense where Prescott is either rolling away from pressure or throwing to receivers running quick routes. It may bring back dislike for dinking-and-dunking but there are no other alternatives if you cannot give Prescott time to throw intermediate and deep passes consistently.

Smith sidelined impacts the running game as well. Even with tight end blocking help, run plays will probably execute best going right than left. Defensive coordinators will gameplan to half the offensive line's blocking scheme with Smith not on the field.

The hole must be plugged by a replacement who will excel. A Smith version 2.0 is not necessary. What is needed is a guy who will consistently give Prescott 2 or 2 1/2 seconds on passing snaps and stonewall penetration on run plays for four quarters. A guy who can get to the second level and run interference for a second on toss plays would be gravy too.

Ive been mentioning it for years. I would move Martin permanently over to LT. Easier to find a guard than a LT. Martin will be an all pro over there.
I would definitely move Martin. With rookie next to him. Could run behind that.

I think this offense was already going to have it's passing offense revolve around:
  • 7 man protection schemes
  • quick passes
  • playaction/levels/drags/swings
Nothing IMO changes the strategy for the year other than we are pretty much TOAST if we get behind in a game.

As much as I have complained that the Cowboys needed to draft Tyron Smith's replacement every year for the past 3 or 4 years, the fact is the best chance they had to get a left tackle was the year they took Parsons instead of Slater. If they took Slater, we would be complaining about the lack of a pass rush and how porous the defense is probably.

But one thing I am pretty certain of, to get a NFL ready OT to replace Tyron Smith they will need to draft in the top 10 or so. We'll see how this year goes but they may have to trade to get a pick that high. I hate it but it may mean giving up a couple of #1s. This is why giving away players for no draft picks or low draft picks is a loser deal.

parsons was fine…..lamb was the one. But I’m happy to have lamb.

You scared? lol Damn dude it's Football we have 50+ players involved. I get it you don't like the depth but let's let them at least actually lose a game before slitting our wrists.

many hope of a great season went toast. It was that fragile.

Uh yeah, I’ve been an advocate of not moving on until it was absolutely necessary. Think it’s entered the realms of absolutely!

I’ve always maintained that when Tyron went down it was over. Also always maintained all qbs need on oline to block.

unless our defense is going to be top 3.

Just reality buddy. If you cant handle that, no big deal. I have watched the Oline and the Cowboys offense fall apart every year for the last 3 years the moment Tyron Smith goes down.

Unfortunately this is a fact when Tyron goes out or is not healthy this offense does not function period.
It has been proven positive enough times that the front office should have prepared for this a long time ago.

Failure to prepare for this is preparing to fail

I think there are still the makings of a competent run blocking line. Without knowing what they do, the LG-RT positions are still excellent run blockers, and I really do believe we'll have more 2 TE sets.

You're right - this will not be a 5-7 drop downfield attack with only 5-6 in protection. Deep shots are going to be hard, but I don't think that was the strategy anyway. I think this team is built to run the football this year and play a bit more WCO passing options.

another issue. Oc won’t adjust until 7th week.

They addressed it....sort of. But per usual they are behind it instead of ahead of it.

The younger tackles are nowhere near ready to play.

Part of why the answers to improve can't be draft only, but they don't get that. Cap dollars have to be saved so they can overpay their own draftees so they can claim that they draft so well.

I agree with drafting young guys with late pics and trying to develop them.
But when you are a 12 and 5 playoff team trying to advance in the tournament you need to make some type of an effort in free agency to get over the top in areas where you are deficient.

And at the end of last year the offensive line was turning into a liability big time

Well they have in their own minds with Smith and Waletzko, and Ball the year before.

They think they have a stud in Steele.

I'm not saying it was the right call, I'm saying these guys take longer to develop than they have accounted for...and that's where draft only to improve hurts. You've got guys you don't want to cut, but aren't ready to play either.
