Yes Jimmy wanted to leave Dallas and finagled a payment from Jerry to do it.

But, "Jerry firing Jimmy" is a big part of Bach's hatred so he is not interested in facts.

I wish I was born when my parents were born. Then I would have gotten to see a great Dallas Cowboys team when I was a kid, a football team, yep a football team. Leave it to me to be born when all I get to see is nothing but a soap opera instead of a football team given to us by the dumbest GM the NFL has ever seen.

Link?

I find it odd he was going to wait til after the NFL meetings at the end of March, less than a month before the draft to up and leave on his own.

And my problem with Jerry has very little to do with Jimmy leaving. It has to do with what Jerry has done since that time.

I guess next you're going to tell me that the team really hasn't gone over a dozen years without a playoff win.

Not at all. Like the Jimmy interviews where he said he had decided to leave, there is actual evidence that we haven't won playoff games. Watch the 1993 Americas Game with the interviews from Jimmy on it. That is one such place where he mentions that he'd already decided that.

He's said it in various interviews through out the years. All you have to do is do some of that research you were telling others to do and you'll read it more than once.

I'm about as POed as anyone about how Jerry Jones has handled this team.

But Jimmy Johnson orchestrated his ouster from the Dallas Cowboys.

As great a coach as Jimmy was, he was even a greater manipulator. He started talking trash about Jerry Jones after Super Bowl 28, knowing it would get back to Jerry and knowing Jerry would be pissed.

Remember, Jerry had said previously in the season that Jimmy Johnson would be his coach, and he wasn't going to let him out of his contract. So Jimmy started the wheels in motion to get himself out of Dallas because he wanted to coach the expansion Jacksonville team and position himself for the Miami job after Shula left.

Again, Jerry Jones is not at fault in ousting Jimmy. That was Jimmy Johnson's carefully orchestrated plan.

Switzer was the perfect man to run his football team, a man who knew his place at the bottom of the pecking order.

Switzer, thy name is Wade Phillips.

Can't give you a link, but I'm certain I did hear those extact words from Jimmy's mouth. America's Game, story of the 1993 Cowboys.

I know Jimmy was getting tired of the situation in Dallas with Jerry, but I had heard different accounts and the timing at the end of March didn't seem like he was planning on leaving in '94. But maybe that was entirely the case. But like I had said, him leaving wasn't the main issue, it was what has happened since then.

And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't have looked at a play-off appearence this year and wild card win as anything more than what we did accomplished in 2007.

I was making this arguement after the Giants win when it looked as if we would make the play-offs as a wild card team.
This person wanted us to at least get one play-off win. I felt that wasn't good enough and no real accomplishment.

I'm not saying that just one playoff win would be good enough either. But the point is, we haven't had any in 13 years. Even if we had 2 or 3 playoff wins interspersed over the last decade it wouldn't have meant much, but we don't even have that.

It's hard to go "up" from back to back championships, even though Jerry was proven right that 500 coaches could win a SB with those teams when a Switzer coached team "won" it. Perhaps, if Jimmy decided to choose his linebacker Francis instead of lucking into Emmit Smith, there most likely wouldn't even be a single SB among his mantle. Parcells certainly helped in the organizational department as far as scouting is concerned, but he had a better record with Jones' picked players than his own. So, he brought a 10-6 team down to a 9-7 team with no SB victories, where a non-led Parcells team worked its way to 13-3 season and this year, matched his last victory total of 9-7 the year he left, so I fail to see how it has gone down, or is in shambles now, when almost every NFL scout agrees that the Cowboys have drafted very well in the last two years.

I find it quite ironic that certain people blame Jones for all of the mishaps, but all the victories are a result of the people he hired.

I certainly give Jerry Jones credit for bringing in Jimmy Johnson, and realizing that he was an idiot after 3 consecutive 5-11 seasons, and subsequently paying Parcells millions to bail him out of the mess he created. Turning those teams into a 10-6 playoff team immediately is more of a testament to how good of a coach and leader BP was than anything. Regardless, it's pretty clear that Jones wants 100% of the spotlight and credit for the success of this team. He thought they'd be able to accomplish what the 1995 team did so he brought in another puppet that he could run all over, but unfortunately, it did not work out.

It's a double edged sword here because it's nice to have an owner who is willing to go out and spend anything on anyone, but it hurts to have such an incompetant GM. Overall though, he's hurting this team far more than he's helping it.
