The moment that changed the game

I think Micah has to move back the LB to beat them. They isolate him on the edge. Keep him in the middle of the field. That’s how we opened up the second half and it worked quite well.

That's true. I think the next time we play the Eagles Dan Quinn will have a great defensive scheme to go against what we just saw. I have no doubt the Eagles offense will start struggling if Hurts doesn't drop back.

It’s embarrassing that two line judges are blind and can’t get the proper spot, but it’s even more embarrassing how little awareness McCarthy and the coaching staff showed here.

McCarthy literally never challenges anything. Instead, he’d rather rush to the line and give the Eagles the ball back in scoring position.

If not for this play, I think the Cowboys win the game.

that and the ensuing go for it , and then the poor play call for the go for it.
add to that the other dumb penaltys at key moments in the game.
88 block in the back, diggs helmet off, fowler jumps on fake go for it, micah had a penalty for unsportman conduct at key moment.
These were all dumb penaltys that should not happen in a big game like this.

add to all that dallas was out coached big time in 1st half.

Even if you don't challenge it...going for it should have never been an option. I really hate this new fangled NFL where it is ok to go for things like you are 11 years old.

The eagles almost screwed themselves as well going for two and leaving a window open for us to beat them. We just weren't up to it.

They won the first half 20 to 0, we won the second half 17 to 6. Do the math, penalties and turnovers lost us this game.

I agree, after that play I was thinking this is not our night. Huge momentum shift and the refs changed the spot then McCarthy doesn't challenge. I was thinking I've seen this movie before. Sometimes I wonder what exactly does McCarthy do here? Quinn runs the defense, Moore "runs" the offense and McCarthy just does press conferences and interviews. Moore needs help and McCarthy, who is a an offensive minded coach, doesn't get involved with the offense. As far as I know. So what does he do here? Plays like this make me really believe that McCarthy will be gone next year and Quinn will be the guy. I'd rather have Quinn than Payton.

This is the first time I actually watched the Eagles this year for more than 15 minutes. Hurts is comfortable because they're basically running a college offense. But when we were down 20-17 we can't keep giving up those 5, 6, 8, 11 yard run plays up the middle.

The play this OP is about was just as bad as a turnover. If you count that, turnovers were 4 for us, none for them. That's the game right there.

It was a good learning game. In the first half, it looked like the team became deflated, but in the second half, the team fought back. I like the fighting at the end. That tells me they were not happy with the loss and were not going to lie down. Rush had a lot of issues in the first half, with a lot of stupid things happening. Fat Mike is basically a stand-around coach. No challenge and going for it on our side of the field. What pumpkin head does that? I think this game will make the team better. They seemed to have each other's back as the game went on. Good job.

It had to be challenged because you're getting your punt team ready at your own 35 and there's a lot of time to see replays.
You only go to the line to get them off sides like Fowler

The ref who had us at the first had a better look at it than the ref who came from the opposite side. I dont understand why she didn't hold her ground.
She actually had us on the line at first and then kept trying to move us a little shorter from the line as she walked…I guess because the crowd was intimidating her…cause she was a woman….not sure what the other ref was thinking coming up a full yard short.

Yup.
I felt the Cowboys were gonna win all night until Cooper threw that 3rd pick. But not kicking that extra point they left a small window open for the Cowboys to maybe perform a miracle.

Don't we have people paid to sit in the booth upstairs and do exactly this, review bad calls to challenge?

The embarrassing thing would be not to have some process in place for some assistant to review bad calls and alert McCarthy to throw the challenge flag.

There’s no excuse for a team, and a coach, not to have a person somewhere watching on tv to see blatantly obvious mistakes and tell the coach to challenge.

If we can all see it clearly at home then a pro team should be able to figure out how to see the same thing.

\ Sometimes I wonder what exactly does McCarthy do here?

What he *should* do as HC is delegate monitoring of plays to challenge to an assistant or two with lots of screens and a feed where he can immediately replay the play on video.

I think Fowlers penalty was bigger then this. 4th and 4. We literally handed them 4 points. 16 seconds winding down and the Eagles offense ran back on the field because their coach waved them all back just because he figured why not do a hard count and let the quarter end...then we jumped. Biggest play of game.

Yea that was huge. Everyone knew what they were doing except Fowler apparently. That should have never happened. Cowboys committed too many dumb errors on the first half with this play and including McCarthy being clueless on the replay. They just weren’t good enough with their backup QB to overcome that much stupidity.

stephen evidently wants to save money by not having that person lol.
either they dont have one or he was taking a nap!

collingsworth said something right away, so it was fairly obvious.
