The most disturbing trend of this whole cockamamie season

No, the NFL is about quarterbacks at the end of games. We're witnessing the maturation process of Dak to whatever he'll ultimately be one day. Of course, he gets almost no help from his defense, which wilts as the game goes on.

Dallas scored 10 points in the second half yesterday. They scored 6 against the Rams. That's the problem.
The NFL is about Defenses. When the Cowboy FO understands that..the Franchise will start winning SB's again.

This is something I don't understand.

Garrett drills it into them everyday: "Finish the fight!" He probably has members of the team write it on a chalk or white board repeatedly. He even had T-shirts with the phrase printed out which they could wear while working out or whatever and be reminded.

This is what coaching is all about: platitudes and T-shirts.

Dallas can't finish. That is troubling.

The Cowboys have been outscored, 51-16, the past two weeks in the latter half of those games. Ugh. This after good starts against the Rams and Packers.

And this isn't about playcalling or "adjustments", which is the most overused term in football. This is about lining up and executing mistake-free football and finishing the dadgum game.

Elite teams play elite at critical times, not midway through the first quarter.
It's most about our defense. Offense last two weeks should be enough.

Dallas has given up 14 scores on opponents last 18 possessions . Tough to close out games when you can't make stops .

A play nobody is talking about came in the 2nd quarter, after our third TD. The Packers committed a penalty on the extra point. We kept the point instead of putting the ball at the one yard line and going for two. Had we done that and converted, then the end of the game might have been very different. But again, none of this has anything to do with a "dominating in the first half, collapsing in the second half" narrative. That simply didn't happen yesterday.

Few teams are going to go for two in that situation. Maybe they should, but Garrett is too conventional for that.

we were elite on offence when it mattered, moved the ball both times in the 4th, except for Williams screw up, and would have scored a TD had the refs called PI on Witten, but I agree. When it was 21-6, my son asked why I wasn't more excited. I said because our defence will give the game away.

and it is unrealistic to expect Dak not to make a mistake or ever to be stopped. Yesterday, we punted what, once, and had the INT. They didn't stop us the rest of the game. We still lost.

Have you watched this team under JG last 8 seasons? This is how it has been with JG lead Cowboys. Did you already forget about the December meltdowns?
Needing only one win to win the division but losing the last game to finish the season at 8-8. All those 4th quarter gaffes to lose the game. Why are you surprised now? JG's teams fade at the end and can't finish anything.

Different players but same results. It doesn't matter if it's Romo or Dak, you are going to see the same thing as long as JG is the HC.

yep, under Garrett we have had some completely mystifying losses

51-48 to Broncos, up 23-3 against Matt Flynn and lost, the last two weeks, playoffs last year, come way back and give up that long pass, year end losses to miss the post season three straight years, freezing our own kicker etc

Especially troubling when finishing should be our strength...no team with Zeke, Martin, Fredbeard, and Tyron should have trouble finishing teams off.

That being said, they did their part yesterday.

Tyrone is playing at about 75%.
He, Fred, and Zak are still figuring out how to mesh with 2 or 3 new faces.

So, the OL is about half as efficient as they were last year.

The saying goes GOOD teams find ways to win BAD teams find a way to lose. The next 2-3 games will see where the Cowboys fall.

The defense isn't holding up it's end of the game yet. Hitch, Lee, rooks get experience, Irving....lots of reasons to think it will get better.

No team is going to score 20+ points every half. If you do that in one half, and add anything at all in the other, that should be enough to win most games.

But when you're giving up 35...

Certainly part of the problem. When the offense gives you a lead with a lil over a minute to go that's a defense problem.

I think you will find many disturbing trends here starting with teams running on them and once again being allergic to creating turnovers. 1/3 of the way through the season -3 on turnovers. You have one play maker right now on defense and he is 31 Y/O and looked every bit of it most of the season.

Oh I agree, and I don't think changing out the coaching staff would have made that decision any different. But it's often those kinds of hidden little plays that make the difference between winning and losing

Bro, this aint no elite team here................This is a sub 500 team

And don't anybody try to argue otherwise with this "well, we should have won this game or that game so we should be 3-2 or 4-1". Woulda, shoulda, coulda, but didn't. That BS don't fly, you are what your record says you are and the record says sub 500.

The defense can't finish. And Marinelli has been given 5 years here and I think we've regressed since 2014, if not 2016.

That's what the NFL is largely about...progression. You can be a poor team, but if you're progressing each year will progress into a good team and have sustained success.

Our defense is vomit inducing and it's as bad as it has ever been.
