The Most Unluckiest Team in the NFL

Can we stop blaming 8 years of JG being HC for 20+ years of bad luck? Last time I checked, we haven’t won a SB in over two decades and we’ve had several coaches, yet the one thing that has been constant throughout has been Jerry “the clown” Jones. Who’s responsible for hiring and keeping JG? Who’s mainly responsible for hiring every person on this team? Who’s responsible for driving away and/or not hiring qualified coaches? Who refuses to hire a qualified GM?

If most of you want to blame JG for our failures then perhaps your hatred and discontent should be directed at the source, Jerry Jones. Why is it for every 5 “JG sucks” or “coaching is horrible” threads there is only ONE “Jerry Jones sucks” thread? I know some of you get it, but I’m specifically directing my question to the people who consistently bash JG but make no mention of Jerry Jones. Why?

To answer your last paragraph the reason JG gets more criticism is because he can be fired and replaced. You can't fire and replace Jones. Further, Jones gets criticized here a lot as it is.

The Garrett supporters have been getting very chippy lately with name calling and insults..........I guess watching Philly advance to the NFC Title game with a backup QB and a 2nd year head coach has their panties in a bunch. Kinda hard to defend Garrett after that, so they are on edge right now.

Back up QB
Back up LT
Back up MLB

Also Cox missed two games this year, Darby was out 7, etc.

People should be embarrassed at this point trying to float injuries as an excuse for Garrett. But they won't be.

.. then I remembered the Saints won a Super Bowl recently.
....the year they knocked the Vikes out. Karma is a beautiful thing. Just wondering when Karma is coming around for our Cowboys when playing in the playoffs vs GB.o_O

First off I want to say, this is not a Garret apologist, I think it’s time for a new coach but you will see some facts in this post.

This franchise is the most unluckiest franchise in the NFL(besides maybe the Lions). Jerry must’ve sold his soul.

Yes we are even more unlucky than the Browns.

The Browns have had one winning season in the last 15 years and it was the year we had their first round pick. That’s sad.

At the end of the day, you always want a genius at coach and a master technician at QB but does that always matter?

Really?

I firmly believe a lot of luck comes into play.

Mike Zimmer was staring a 0-2 playoff record in the face after watching his team collapse in the second half at home. He didn’t coach the Saints defender to whiff on a tackle. Instead, Zimmer is now a genius and Case Keenum is a hero by pure luck. Sometimes the better QB and coach are helpless while the ball just bounces the other way.

You can find lots of instances in the NFL where luck and a hot streak wins out over talent or strategy. Look at the Ravens a few years back, the Harbaugh/Flacco connection got on a hot streak at the right time and had a little luck go their way. I don’t think Harbaugh is an amazing coach and Flacco is trash. If they were any good, they would be a little bit more competitive regularly in a weak AFC. They got lucky.

Even the great Brady/Belichick connection can credit at least a couple of their rings to a little luck..not a dominating strategy or overwhelming talent.

Despite his failures as a head coach, Garrett very easily could have had at least two NFCCG appearances if a little luck went our way. I’m not saying I want him as our long term answer at head coach, I’m just stating facts. If Dez “caught it” or if Cook didn’t get the last foot in bounds, our entire analysis of him would be different. If we had a little more luck with Romo, he’s a hall of famer.

I want one of these crazy wins that we can overexaggerate and remember..instead we just get a lot to bad luck and disappointment.

The most unluckiest franchise in the league, besides maybe the Lions.

Had a Cowboy hating friend give me crap once after I said "You know super bowls aside, you have to realize no team has lost more memorable key games so close as the Boys, think of 66 and 67 against GB, SB 5, SB 10 and 13, "the catch" We had a big fight over that, dumb Giant fan.

love how some here keep defending mediocrity because its not total failure.

Just see the conf championships thread

People still defending this garbage and calling it just bad luck" while the snake oil salesman laughs all the way to the bank

I guess the world does need some simpletons like rob the OP, otherwise how would shysters like Jerry make money

Yep, Garrett missing the playoffs 72% of the time is just all bad luck, gosh darn it:angry:

Coaching, schemes, preparation, adjustments, blah, blah, blah..............doesn't matter, all comes down to pure luck who wins these playoff games:facepalm:

You know how long it takes to get 53 RKGs?

Garrett needs another 2-3 years then grade him!

Exactly, “he can be fired and replaced”. By who? Shouldn’t that person receive the most criticism instead of the guy trying to do his job? It doesn’t matter if Jones can’t be fired, people still complain about JG but we all know he’s not getting fired anytime soon.

Jones definitely gets some criticism but not near the hate JG does. JG hasn’t done squat in 8 years, Jerry hasn’t done jack in 20+ years other than rip people off for a piss poor product.

JJones is not a talent evaluater . the doldrum years of the franchise were all on him but since Parcells
he has tried to correct his short comings and we are now on a upper trend.
I can already hear the boo's and hisses but i believe that.
He has in placed some I have respect for and some are a miss.
its coming

Oh believe me, we know you believe it
Without simpletons and "believers" like yourself how would shysters like Jerry make their money?

We are unlucky.

Not lucky enough to have Garrett get himself involved in some bizarre scandal that would force Jerry to fire him. Because I think that's the only way Jerry would fire him at this point.

If the Cowboys are the unluckiest team in the league, then it has little to do with what happens on the field.

The Cowboys’ bad luck comes from having an “owner/GM” whose ego demands that he demonstrate his prowess as a team-architect by exerting too much misguided control over player-personnel and assistant coaching hires/fires, while trying to create a Super Bowl winner that cannot be credited to Jimmy Johnson or any other strong-willed head coach.

Twenty-two seasons, three playoff wins and not even ONE appearance in the NFC Champ game — let alone getting to the Super Bowl and actually winning it.

But forget about bad luck and rejoice! Who needs luck when you have a Process?

It's the nature of sports. The coach always gets the brunt of the criticism before the owner does.

Bingo!

Luck has nothing to do with our lack of success. Jerry wanting to be in control, being his own GM, and intentionally hiring sub-par HC's due to his ego is why we are where we are. He puts us in a situation year after year where it'd take the stars aligning and luck for us to even have a chance to be a contender.

He did get lucky. His only playoff win was highly questionable as the refs missed a pretty obvious PI call.

They missed the facemask that pulled him into that pass interference you mean.

That happened because Romo got hurt (again) and the league had no film to study on his replacement, hence the good rookie season. The rookies had great rookie seasons and made Garrett look better than he is. And Garrett is the one who gets rewarded for basically doing nothing.

Every Head Coach gets more credit than deserved and more blame than deserved. IMO there is a lot that goes into a team's performance but execution is more important than coaching at the end of the day. All coaches have strengths and weaknesses, I think Garrett has better strategy than he gets execution from his players and Marinelli is the opposite - I don't like the strategy but his players execute it.

There were multiple issues this season but its not all on Garrett like some here say.

There it is. The personal attack, because You have nothing to actually defend why Garrett shouldnt have been fired yet.

Yes, please lecture me on personal attacks, guy who created an Internet account called "DakPresgoat".

I'm not really defending Garrett but I posted his winning percentage, which any non-whiner would consider a valid reason for his not being fired.

I could be wrong but I don't think he's insulting Prescott with that name. I think the GOAT part stands for Greatest Of All Time.

Although I could be wrong but I believe he's defended Dak a lot on these boards.

True dat but in this particular case, Jerry is much different than most owners. When you have an egomaniac who has not only been been the owner but self appointed GM who refuses to relinquish that position than I think he deserves much, much, much more criticism than “typical” owners. There are ways he could improve this team but his ego is too big to let that happen. He’s also kept this team irrelevant for over two DECADES! I can’t wait until he’s gone...permanently gone.
