Time was TOP and number of offensive plays were pretty good indicators of which team would win.

If I gave you this prior to any game, what would you conclude? TOP 36:43 to 23:17 and 75 offensive plays to 52. One team had the ball 61% of the game and ran 44% more offensive plays than the other.

And what if I were to tell you that TOP team with 23 more offensive plays was purportedly the run team with the best OL in the league, what would you conclude?

The Giants were 54% pass/46% run and averaged 4.7 per carry. The Cowboys were 61% pass/39% run and averaged 3.3 per carry. The passing team ran the ball and the run team threw too many passes. Whodathunkthat?

We can have all of the TOP we want, the other teams could care less as long as we're not turning possessions into points.

And that belief that TOP protects the defense took a hit as well. Doesn't matter as much about how long they're on the field, it's still about what they do when they're out there.
You know I was watching Ken Whisenhunt and thinking damn I wish we had him!

I was trying to guess plays and it was hopeless what a novelty:angry:

Man I respect you a lot, but TOP means quite a bit. It doesn't dictate wins and loses, but it definitely can be the difference between the two.

This game mattered because the Cowboys couldn't convert possessions into TDs. They settled for FGs. The Giants didn't.

If the TOP was the other direction; deductively, the Cowboys would have lost 40-10. (ie, a blowout)

Again, the top 5 TOP offenses last year combined for a losing record.

Burning clock means nothing if you can't maintain a lead.

Points per play is flawed.

Which defense is better?

Defense A that allows 3 points on 3 plays after a given drive?

Or Defense B that allows 3 points on a 10 play drive?

We can find flaws in every stat. Isn't that the point? We can crush the TOP, turnovers, pass/run pct.
I was just throwing another log on the fire. The only thing that can't be argued is the final score.

To answer your math question: If Defense A gives up 3 pts every 3 plays, they will lose every time. Especially when the opponent, Defense B
only allows 3 pts every 10 plays. If each team ran 60 plays, Defense A would lose 60-18.

Word problem for you: A Cowboy rides into town on Monday and leaves four days later on Monday. How is that possible?
Also something to ponder: Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?
