CFZ The murky thinking behind the Trey Lance trade

I think he was insurance I'm case Dak had a bad season without KM. He was potential if we moved on.
Athletes need a hell of a lot more than potential to be considered a QB.

Probably not. Not for anyone that any fans would want. And if they did trade for a no name type player. They would be saying the same thing about them as they do about Lance.
Which is why I find many of the.. he can't play ... comments funny. There are no GM's on here.
As we don't know what he can and can't do yet.
true no gms no NFL caliber execs or coaches etc..i mean most are in a hurry to get rid of player who was 2nd in MVP voting, 2nd team all pro, no losing seasons, been to the payoff 5 of 8 season healthy and a td-INT ratio ranks top 10 ALL TIME in the nfl and slowly setting new records as Dallas Cowboys. they call him average and overrated LOL ..soem have nicknames that are belittle like trash etc..

fickle fan base for sure also ready to get rid of all the top players up for new deal like parsons and lamb now on their hitlist.

i truly believe the fan base would rather win the offseason ie draft/FA and have new things to talk about rather than at least get to the playoffs yearly in hopes these payers in 3-5 years get back to the same spot or further...

as soon as they get paid they are the devil LOL simply they are bored with the last 3 years ending the same way but 36 wins, 2 division tiles, and 3 playoff appearance in 3 years is entering blow it up territory.

I am not seeing the upside. I only see the downside. We offered a 4th. No one else offered more than a 7th conditional pick. That looks like down to me.

Compare Trance stats in college to Rush. Compare Trance contract to Rush. Compare Trance NFL experience to Rush. All of it is down.
Lance's 2019 season was 2786 yards passing, 1100 yards rushing (3886 total), 28 passing TD's, 14 rushing TD's (42 total TD's) & ZERO Int's

Granted Rush had more playing time in college, but he never showed this kind of potential - big yards & TD's with no Int's - plus Lance is younger and more athletic.

Cooper will never go beyond where he is today. Lance still can.

I look for Rush to be a cap casualty this year. Saves like $2.5 million, about half of what Lance is getting.
Then they will sign another FA QB if they do not draft one in the later rounds, or sign an UDFA QB.

They could bring Ruch back for less $$, or AJ McCarron was just released by the Bengals. He could be the 3rd QB.

There are no GM's in the Cowboys organization as well.

It does not take a GM Scientist to know what he can and can not do based on his history.

He could not win the starting job in HS until his senior year - he only had 55 completions in HS.

He could not get a scholarship at any level to play QB in college. Teams wanted him to play defense. He listed himself as a QB at camps, to only come of camps listed as an athlete.

It took him his 3rd year to start at a low level college and only played one year.

Does this sound like a first round pick to you?

Since his 1 year starting in college, he has not played in 4 years.

What is funny is some people are still trying to figure out what he can and can not due.

What's funny is that if Lance was on another team, and someone here suggested the Cowboys trade a 4th round pick to acquire him, they would be laughed off this board.

"Go play Madden"

But when their cult leader Jerry makes the trade in real life they scramble for excuses on why it was a good trade.

Neither will Trance. At best in the NFL he will be a long term back up with zero experience and a lot of potential.

Best move for Trance is go learn how to play QB, not athlete, in the USFL, Canadian league or Arena football.

GM's that see potential in a hybrid QB/RB, that has not demonstrated they can actually play QB are luckily to have jobs.

Maybe we should trade up for a WR that breaks a lot of tackles, because they have a lot of potential at RB.

*Trey Lance is an asset.
*Trey Lance is leverage, if Todd France ask for too much, not that it matters because the Cowboys will give him whatever he wants anyway.
*Dallas will end up trading Lance or receiving a comp pick for him.

Stephen is operating a stone age player acquisition operation. Jerry tried to help him out by getting Lance lol, so know he might actually win a future trade.

Cooper is already considered a legitimate back up QB. If we had 4 QB's in camp, Trance would be fighting for the the emergency back up position.

If Trance's contract was not $5.3M guaranteed he would be released.

They know better than you or I and everyone on the forum.
We get it, you do not like him, but there is nothing you can do to make him go away.

I want to see him in TC and PS games. Than judge for myself. Not go on what he did or did not do in HS or college, or even in SF. But if they can flip him for some picks I will be fine with that as well.

You can't be taken serious if you have to call him Trance. Call him by his name then maybe you can make some actual points.

I will continue to call him Trance, as long as fans are under his agents spell and think he is a QB.

Never said I did not like him. He is a great athlete. He is not a QB at this point, his history obviously stats that.

People are waiting for him to get his chance to prove himself. Why did he not get it in HS? Why did he not get it at a D1 school? Why did he not get offered a scholarship at any level in college?

Why did he have to walk on and sit for 2 years?

Instead of taking a year off for Covid he should have transferred to a D1 college after having 1 solid year.

I can't blame him and his agent taking the money and getting drafted early, but that will be his last big contract. Their are JC QB's with more experience than him.

Hilarious. No one will trade for Trance. $5.3M for him this year is too much already. He is due $25M next year. If anything they will wait an offer him a vet minimum contract as a free agent.

Comp picks? Are you serious, do you know how they are calculated?

Do you really believe next year he will be a starting QB anywhere?

Is this some grand 3 dimensional chess our GM is playing?
It is more like…
