The Myles Jack Myth

Before someone else says Myles Jack lacks instincts, or gets swallowed up by blockers, or is a huge projection... please do yourself a favor and actually watch him play. You already know about how many games he was asked to strictly play CB and lock receivers down... but here's the game against UVA, who plays a traditional pro style offense, and Jack plays within the tackle box the entire time as a "traditional" LB.

There are a few of us here who have been trying to relay the message that Myles Jack plays like an absolute animal and do not let his size fool you. He plays with unbelievable power, explosion and just straight up abuses blockers. He's a freakish athlete, and here you can see for yourself.

Myles Jack lacks instincts and gets swallowed by blockers. Nothing in that video changed my opinion of that at all. He's still a guy being projected due to his elite athleticism.

This is not to say he doesn't have a chance to be a great player, but he definitely needs a little more time and experience in the position.

I like Jack and wouldn't even mind selecting him, but he is not going to come in and be some unstoppable force on day 1, like so many want to portray.

FTR, how many games was he asked to strictly play CB and lock down receivers?

This tells me one of two things;

A) You watched him play and saw how physical he played in college, but are projecting that the jump to the NFL will be too much to overcome.

or

B) You did not watch him play and have made a predetermined judgement based on his size thinking he plays small.

I disagree, Jack has exceptional instincts and has the speed and block deconstruction ability to mitigate taking on blocks as they rightly observe.

Love Jack blowing up that LG, guy has explosive power for his size!

They have him at Will and MLB in this game, showing his diversity!

Judge for yourself. Beast? Or a player that can't read blockers?

Remember who else people lost their minds over?

LaVar Arrington.

I am seeing the same "beast" and "freak" talk.

At the end of the day, the athleticism matters less and less if he does not have it upstairs.

I watched everything I could find on him. Full games, highlights etc.

Your response tells me you're not actually ready for an adult, insightful debate on Myles Jack. I've already gone multiple pages on this with multiple people where I have pulled up frame by frames and videos.

When someone uses the word "beast" to describe a player, that automatically tells me a whole lot

The thing is, I have never even said once I don't think Jack could/would be a great player. I just find it funny people are absolutely choosing to ignore any of his deficiencies and/or act like he has none.

I accept Jack's problematics straight up personally but also have issues with uncritical comments on size, intelligence and other matters that when you look at any of the reliable evaluations and actual game tape, it suggests something much different.

All players will have plays that could have been better throughout the season but Jack's skill set is evident throughout the total body of work.

Jack needs seasoning and film room study to be sure but he has intelligence, exceptional instincts and ability that can not be taught.

I think if the Cowboys draft Jack, Eberflus and Lee will be critical in terms of developing his game to the next level.

Myles Jack is not even close to Kuechley who actually can read a QB,Jack is good at chasing and tackling the ball carrier quickly and for that we dont need to use the 4th pick in the draft.

Another Jack thread? Lol All I know is I'll gladly take him on our slow, boring defense. I'm done trying to convince people. I showed a video with Ramsey looking like Mo. I can find video of Goff or Wentz looking like Weeden. C'mon now

I have all but begged to be convinced by someone that he is worth the choice for us.

My big deal is I don't think he can play the middle role. If the idea was to have him play chase LBer from Lee's spot, well okay then.

But nobody will or even can put it up there that he can play middle linebacker as a professional.

That's my big deal.

I've based what I've said on actual game tape. I've watched him get turned and swallowed by linemen and show an inability to disengage. I think he has instincts as a football player, but I don't see great instincts as a linebacker. He takes back angles quite frequently, but is able to recover due to his speed and athleticism. He misreads blockers quite a bit too. I always watch the tape myself before I form opinions, which is why I often don't comment on more obscure players--because I haven't seen anything on them.

We can agree to disagree in our evaluations, but this arrogant stance of "if you're opinion isn't the same as mine than you clearly haven't actually looked at footage" is base and far more delusional even than someone forming opinions without studying.

We can debate, but I won't hang around and be told what I have or haven't done. I am not a child. I wont debate with one.

What is limiting him from playing Mike in the NFL?

What's your opinion on Jaylon Smith?
