The NBA is kicking the NFL's butt right now

Due the NFL is light years ahead of the NBA in ratings. I'm going to guess the Draft gets better ratings than the Finals. Of course right now it's a little quiet. Wait until starting Thursday and into the weekend. The NBA and every other sport here will take a backseat. The Draft has become a huge event with how they market it. And more and more fans are interested in the draft and offseason moves than ever before.

Sorry, but the NBA nevers kicks NFL tail unless it's offseason.

The drafts ratings are extremely high in the Dallas market...6.6 rating. Which is as high as a Mavs playoff game...and light years ahead of NHL.

An NFL Sunday night game beats all of them.

Not even close. The NFL made a huge mistake pushing the draft back two weeks. With the the whole Donald Sterling story and the Nba Playoffs being so great with 5 first rd series going to game 7's this weekend it has totally killed any hype or buzz leading into the NFL Draft on Thursday.

I'm a diehard NFL Draft guy and I haven't been this disinterested in the draft since the 80's when I was a kid. I bet this will be the lowest rated least watched Draft in some time.

The NBA won't win the head to head showdown, but what the OP is saying is that moving the Draft back 2 weeks has allowed the NBA to completely dominate the news cycle for the last 2 weeks. If the Draft was held 10 days ago, all the fans would be talking about getting Clowney or Manziel and buying jerseys and stuff like that.

Now that the NBA and NHL Playoffs are in full swing, they are taking up most sports shows. I turn off ESPN if I see Kiper or McShay, there just isn't anything else to say. There will be some good Playoff matchups on Thursday and Friday and viewers will be peeled away. It's better to have the stage to themselves.

Plus they have stolen 2 weeks worth of time rookies could learn the playbook and get acclimated to the NFL.

I think it's gonna be a nice break from the nba/Sterling crap for allot of people. But the NFL popularity freight train is bound to slow down any day any way, lets just hope it doesn't fall off because of an NFL skandal.

Once you hear those first words, and with the 1st overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft the Houston Texans select.......... You will forget about the NBA.

I won't. The Wizards won their first series in a decade and have a great young team. The Spurs/Mavs series has been great. There are going to be 5 or 6 Game 7s this weekend and every other game is going to OT. It has been a great Playoffs so far and it looks to get better.

The NBA has really boosted itself since it started fixing (or at least tainting) games quite a few years back. It's too profitable for them and they take a huge hit if two small market teams play in the finals. They know no one will watch. I know Stern was petrified when it looked like a Sacramento-western champ over the Lakers in the early 2000s, even the players in that game are on record saying they think it was fixed. Even when it came out that it the game was tainted a few years back, no one really seemed to care. Guess lots of folks still follow WWE also. Guess I'm guilty too as I had sworn off the NBA but then my hometown got a team.
If I were a sports gambler, the NBA is what I would bet on. I was able to predict the outcome of each of the finals games last season 1-7 and even who would have a big game. It was ridiculously predictable.

The NBA is kicking the NFL's butt right now. Not even close.
It's not the NBA it's all the off the court issues drawing attention to basketball.

On SportsCenter every day it's:

NFL draft coverage > Sterling coverage + NBA playoffs

If you think the NFL draft is exciting now.Just imagine if it had a national signing day like in college.
Any player could end up going anywhere regardless of draft position. If I was in charge that's exactly what I would do.

A national signing day for the NFL.
Any team can negotiate with any player.

Monumentally huge mistake to do that.

The popularity of the NFL is based on parity and that each time thinks they might have a chance to make the playoffs and then anything can happen. If you start letting college players all decide on their own where they want to sign, you are going to destroy that. There would be no way for small market low profile teams to compete with the New Englands and San Franciscos of the NFL.

Use your own example, how well does La Tech compete with Florida State for the top recruits?

whats funny is NFL draft coverage in Philly is at all time high. I really think its tied to how the fans feel about their team. Eagle fans think they are on verge of something great....so for them the draft is huge deal right now. In Dallas, I don't get sense the fans feel they are onto something. Rather it feels stale and ready for big changes.

We are comparing the NBA playoffs to the NFL draft.

Flip the scenario, who the hell even bothers to watch the NBA draft? When is it even on? How well would the NBA draft compare ratings wise to the NFL playoffs?

I do agree that there is very little excitement overall for the Cowboys right now among the fan base. I say this because if you go to the different fan sites on the Internet, most fans do not think this is a playoff team. Even on this site, go look at some of the prediction threads and the overwhelming majority of the responses are 8-8 or worse.

And lets also be honest here and say that Garrett is not exactly the most popular guy among the fan base right now either. Not going to break any of the new rules, just going to say most fans do not think he is the answer and I will leave it at that.

So when you combine the belief that the team is not a playoff team with the belief that the head coach is not very good...................you are not going to get a lot of excitement in the fan base.

NFL is king, no doubt about it, saying that, this 1st round of the NBA playoffs have been crazy, 5 game 7's is unreal.
But then again they will bow down to the king once more, NFL Draft day will be this thursday, no 2nd round game will come close to the ratings it will bring.

Sorry but even ex-refs have come out and said they fix games. That 2003 Western Conference semifinals was disgusting.

Here is an ex ref telling what went on.
