I'm on record as being super-optimistic about the 2023 Dallas Cowboys season. While I still believe the Eagles are the better overall team on paper, I also believe that this may very well be the year the Cowboys break the playoff curse and cash in at next year's Super Bowl. Back to back 12 win seasons and aggressively addressing holes has impressed me a great deal!

But I want a balanced view beyond being a typical homer. I want to know what could be the most likely reason that the Cowboys fall short. And please don't say "The Joneses" - that's being lazy.

To the skeptics out there, please give us your best arguments for why the Cowboys will not break the playoff curse or whatever doom scenario you have in mind. Curious minds want to know!
I reserve my opinion until I see the final roster. There are still holes to be filled, RB, OL depth and maybe elsewhere.

Simple answer is there are better teams in the NFL then Dallas. Sure I would love to see the Boys win the Superbowl but I just dont see that happening. I'd be happy to see them win 10-12 games this year. Win a wildcard position and at least make the playoff game interesting before they bow out of the playoffs

That's funny. The Dak haters are a loud and sometimes silly bunch.
There are certain states who would insert operatives into crowds to get the mob going in a certain direction. I am not saying that this is an organized attempt but rather a similar dynamic.

I'm on board with that. My SB prediction this year is Jacksonville over the Eagles. I guess I should worry about the 49ers but I don't for some unknown reason. We'll see.

OL depth, and injuries to starters is my concern. But I am more concerned at RB, the entire group is not impressive at all.
They are counting on the health of Tyron and the return of Steele, and improvement of Biadasz. And the depth of some rookies and 2nd and 3rd years players.

And Dak improving by eliminating the INT's.

Superbowl....
Let me get back to you in January.

Any fall shorts that arise = January.

January.

Goodnight.

Injuries is the most likely reason that they fall short.

We have the best defense in the league on paper imo. If the run defense improves and we’re lucky on the injury front, I think we’ll hold teams under 20 points a lot of weeks.

Offense is a different story and although the starters seem to be top level, depth is poor on that side of the ball. Any injuries on offense may lead to stagnant performances like we saw some last year.

Special teams are really up in the air and I’m afraid it may cost us games.

Based on the current roster I think 10-13 wins is the likely outcome but injuries on offense could see us missing the playoffs.
Better than the Niners? On paper? Does that mean you really dont believe it?

Now I agree they look great on paper. And Barring a major injury this could be the #1 D. But I have to see it first.

Not a skeptic, but the way they addressed RB feels similar to last year's approach at WR. It is somewhat concerning.

We know one thing, if nothing else.

This year it won't be Garrett, Marinelli, Moore's or Zeke's fault.

At least we have Big Mike to scapegoat.

p.s. I am optimistic that the defense could be the horse that carries us to the promised land.

You just now realized that defense wins championships?

That's how you interpreted that?

I don't want to stress you too much but maybe consider it may have meant that the defense has been improved to the point it could propel the team to the promised land.

Maybe not though, given that they did more than enough to get by SF but the offense dropped the ball.

(Can someone help Rocky understand this, please?)
