The Next Impact Player We Should Part With?

idk if he's considered impact or not, but I think we should let Sensabaugh walk.

I don't see the point right now in that he is a starter, we don't have anyone better waiting in the wings, he isn't expensive and we can just get him to sign a one-year tender so we can develop a replacement.

If he re-signs reasonably, then I say go ahead and do it. But if he's asking for a multi-year, Hamlin deal. Forget it.

I'm not going to mock you. I do wonder how any one would trade one of the top, hardest working, most sensible, greatest locker room, QB security blanketing TE in the game?
Every move GM Jerry made last season with vets were no brainers. But get rid of Witten? He would need to have had another lobotomy.
:hammer:

Jason Witten is the best TE in the game, and a top 3 all time TE.

Not for 3 first rounders.

3 first rounders - you've got to like you chances under that scenario. I'd do that deal without hesitation and then control the draft over the next few years and build another dynasty.

He is a RFA so we can wait him out until he signs the tender.

To the OP, the only player that I won't consider trading is a young, franchise QB unless I have two of them. Almost any other player is tradeable unless you are talking about a guy like Jerry Rice or Lawrence Taylors - guys so dominant they can be league MVPs.

So I would trade Witten for the right package but I would want 2 first rounders and a 2nd rounder or a quality OL. I would also want to have a plan on upgrading Roy with a proven vet before I commit to this deal.

Trade Witten, no way. His decline also has to do with the emergence of Austin.

Austin's emergence had nothing to do with Witten not getting down the field last season and his lack of speed. He's still a great player but even with all the balls he caught he appeared to decline some. He seems to tip toe when he runs and doesn't look very athletic. He looked very slow to me last season and he dropped some balls that were very uncharacteristic.

You don't trade franchise players in their prime. Period.

Witten's a great TE but I wouldn't categorize him as a franchise level type player. To me when you are talking about a franchise player you are talking about a guy who can contend for league MVP in any given year and Witten is not quite at that level. He's probably the best overall TE in the game and I doubt any team will give up a package worth trading him for.

We have three franchise players on the Cowboys. Romo, Witten and Ware. That's my definition. They cannot be readily replaced with a number one pick. They are essential to the welfare of the club.

You can also say the same about Ratliff, Spencer, Jenkins, TNew, Miles Austin and Felix Jones. I don't like our chances of finding a better player than those guys in the first round. You'll be successful replacing guys like that maybe 40% of the time.

To me a franchise guy is a guy who can be a league MVP or a POTY. We have two: Ware and Romo. You don't trade away guys like that and anyone else can be moved for the right package.

Austin could win MVP if he holds true to the production he had last season but does it over 16 games. 1900 yards 19 tds? MVP worthy.

(Not saying I think it will happen)

Need to see it again from Miles and I hope he can pull it off. Those are the type of numbers Rice put up in his prime maybe once.

In another thread, everyone here "lauds" the Cowboys' decision to let Canty walk. So far it looks like the right move.

I thought we should have let Barber go the year before instead of inking him to a new mega deal. That thought appears to have some merit at least after this season.

Many will argue that Roy Williams should be shown the door. The opponents to that deal would point out that this season there is no cap, so he doesn't hurt the cap, AND his trade value is basically negligible. I'm ok either way.

I'm intruiged by a trend I saw last year which the Cowboys should take heed. Witten has been a perennial pro bowler for many years. He is known as one of he very best, if not THE best at his position. Yet last year, his production took a significant decline, especially in the productions of toucdowns. Witten made plenty of yards, but he wasn't the dominating Witten of old.

If someone were to offer you a 1st and a 3rd for Witten, would you do it? Do it for two 1sts? How long can he continue to be a dominant tight end in the league? I know I will get crucified for bringing this up, but in reality, every player's career as a Cowboy will end at some point. I think the decision to keep players or not will be impacted to a huge extent by what happens with the next CBA reached.

The Patriots have remained on top for years by letting a player go before his production really tails off. We really need to be on top of this situation, and be right about it. Not let our "hearts" tell us that he is still the stud he once was, if he is starting to lose it.

Awesome.
