In another thread, everyone here "lauds" the Cowboys' decision to let Canty walk. So far it looks like the right move.
I thought we should have let Barber go the year before instead of inking him to a new mega deal. That thought appears to have some merit at least after this season.
Many will argue that Roy Williams should be shown the door. The opponents to that deal would point out that this season there is no cap, so he doesn't hurt the cap, AND his trade value is basically negligible. I'm ok either way.
I'm intruiged by a trend I saw last year which the Cowboys should take heed. Witten has been a perennial pro bowler for many years. He is known as one of he very best, if not THE best at his position. Yet last year, his production took a significant decline, especially in the productions of toucdowns. Witten made plenty of yards, but he wasn't the dominating Witten of old.
If someone were to offer you a 1st and a 3rd for Witten, would you do it? Do it for two 1sts? How long can he continue to be a dominant tight end in the league? I know I will get crucified for bringing this up, but in reality, every player's career as a Cowboy will end at some point. I think the decision to keep players or not will be impacted to a huge extent by what happens with the next CBA reached.
The Patriots have remained on top for years by letting a player go before his production really tails off. We really need to be on top of this situation, and be right about it. Not let our "hearts" tell us that he is still the stud he once was, if he is starting to lose it.
