The Number 88 and Lamb

I really wish Lamb would have chosen a different number than 88. I know he wanted a different number and was talked out of it by Jerry and others. I think Irvin asked him to wear it. Maybe Dez too?

The 88 just has too many connections to the past and I think the team needs a huge dose of future and less talk of the past.

We don’t do it with any other number. Didn’t give Emmitt and Elliott #33 or Romo and Dak #12.

I agree with you on the #88 thing. I wish the team would stop force feeding numbers on young players. It didn’t seem to bother Lamb last year, but it wasn’t the number he wanted originally. It’s just a little strange. If Lamb goes on to a HOF career, it would have been nice for him to have a different number. It’s not a big deal but I do agree I wish the team would stop doing this.

Players are smart enough to know that they hold leverage on owners with FA and the movement in the NFL of players. Jerry wanted CeeDee to wear 88 and they agreed. This off season NFL allowed for number changes and when CeeDee was asked about taking #2 said he has grown fond of it. If Ceedee was dead set on it he could have taken it. What is Jerry going to do cut him? 31 other teams will be ready to jump on him especially a couple in the NFC East.

I’m not losing any sleep over it. Like I said, the Cowboys don’t do it for any other number. Other teams don’t do it. The Stealers don’t talk of giving the bestest newest RB #32.

I think there are bigger ramifications than just being a number. For some reason, people can’t get 88 out of their mind for a Cowboy WR. Is it some sort of supernatural connection some people want to attribute to 88. Conjure up spirits of the past? Just seems weird to me.

Me naive? lol what is Jerry going to do? Cut him? CeeDee is not some late rd draft pick he is a #1 pick and Dallas nor Jerry is going to bench him or cut him based on a ficking number and if they were dumb enough to do that Lamb would quickly find a home in the NFL. Frankly I agree. I don't care what number a player has, I care about what the player does. I will not lie there are # like 12 and 74 that even though Cowboys do not retire # those 2 numbers have never been used in reg season since Roger and Bob retired (outside of pre season)
