The other options at RB

Jeanty is a good receiver.
I don't know what film you watch but I can assure you that Jeanty is far from being as good as several RBs in this draft that have better pass catching skills.
Jeanty will be a great back, but there are several others in this class that bring an already very high ceiling with receptions.

I wonder why he is the hands down #1 RB then?

That is highly likely to happen after the Eagles dominated in the playoffs with running the ball.

There has been a shift. The RB position is no longer being devalued. It hit its floor a couple of years ago, and is now back on the rise.

However, Jerry is often late to figuring these things out.
I bet we come away from this draft with a much better feel of this backfield.

In a deep RB draft, a starving team in need of backfield help can really handle a roster issue easily with a couple of nice rookie RBs in this draft.

Doesn't have to be with the first pick, this draft is deep and puts teams with more picks in a position to float around s bit in this draft and puts Dallas in a great position to be grabbing some specific players if we are targeting, we have some flexibility in this draft.
Do not come away from this draft without at least two RBs in this draft

The problem is our needs are deep as well.

RB, WR, OLine, CB, DT, LB and you could argue which ones are more important.

At the end of the day, even if we hit on all 3 of our top picks, we are still not a good team.

You have to trust in your Player evaluations, those that evaluate talent with McClay.
I love McClay's loyalty to this franchise, but he needs to have his best evaluations and board in tune for this 2025 draft.
I believe we currently have 12 picks, so we can sweeten a move up with some 6ths and 7s, just saying there should be some movement from this team in this draft.
I'm not trying to outsmart anyone, so it's just an opinion BTW.
The Cowboys have 10 picks.

This is an insane RB class.
There will be very good RBs into round 5/6.
If you don't get the top guy, then waiting makes a lot of sense.

Having watched Skattebo, Tahj Brooks and others I can assure you this class is better than anyone thinks.
Skattebo was the best player on that ASU team and Tahj Brooks was the best on Texas Tech.
Tahj has a ton of Emmitt in his game. Very compact, powerful and good at everything but running 40-yard dashes.

I doubt they will be there in round 5 and 6. The market has changed. We could easily see 2 RB's go in round 1.

Having a bunch of r6 and r7 picks is pointless. They have virtually no historical advantage over UDFA. The r6 or r7 guy is more likely to be poached off a practice squad.
Get as many top 100 picks as possible. After that get the best available athletes that fit your scheme. R6 and R7 ask yourself can these guys make the roster? Will they better after a year on a practice squad?

NFL.com ranked 31 RBs for this draft class. That is how deep it is. Essentially one back per team.
And these are not spare backs. These are guys who carried their teams or led P4 leagues in rushing.

Even if 2 go in R1 and another 3 in R2; as is often mocked, you still have 26 more backs for 5 rounds.
You can get a 5-7 year starter in this draft late.
College has already moved back to developing backs and good run games.
It is ahead of the NFL.
NIL had helped allow these guys to stay an extra year in college and develop more.
They have NFL bodies right now.

Jeanty is rated everywhere as RB1.
There are several nice RBs in this draft, so you don't have to target draft, there will be some solid RBs still in the 3rd round.

Since this is a good RB class, the Cowboys need to hit them twice.

I would prefer the Cowboys trade down and try to come away with an extra 3rd or even 2nd round pick. I would like to see them come away with about 12 draft picks

I would like to see them take two RB's within the top five rounds.
Stop.

Just stop.

The trade down nonsense. We had a lot of success with that when Jimmy was here as his defenses could make good use of guys largely viewed as tweeners for their positions (fast but not as big as you would want). Scouts at the time were focused on players having ideal size -- JJ prioritized production in college and had great connections with college coaching staffs. Dude had inside information that the league didn't catch up to for a few years.

Ain't no secrets anymore. You are not going to get better trading back all the time. Trading back is great if you are on the hunt for interior linemen, safeties, and inside linebackers ... but those are not who I am seeing as our top needs or targets.

I'm for getting the best WR and RB available up front. Take a flyer later in the draft for a backup RB. You?

Jeanty is not better than every back in the draft not even close. You will see, that all those D2, small D1s, HBCU and top JC defenses he played against,. Like I said he ran for a lot yards he’s good but those defenses he played against were trash. Tuten catches the ball better and he’s way faster, I’m just saying. Most people see all those yards and they want to compare him to Barry but he’s not even close, really yes he has the yards but those defenses were trash .
Jeanty played against HBCUs? Oregon State and U of O. Wyoming. San Jose. Nevada. San Diego State. UNLV. Hawaii. Utah State. Washington State. Portland State. Georgia Southern. Penn State.

Only of of those states has ANY HBCUs. Georgia does but Georgia Southern isn't one of them.

Same deal with JCs. University is literally in the name of all of the schools he played last year. Pssst. Jucos are not universities.

Stop just saying stuff without checking your biases at the door. I know that you have role models who just say crazy stuff with no basis in reality but, the grown ups are trying to have a serious discussion here.
