No doubt this is something that must improve, I'm not going to turn on this team or this defense like so many here do. I do expect Quinn and this defense to adjust and it is not about bringing in players it is about making adjustment alone the DL and adjust not having outside rushers pinching down as hard coming on the pass rush. With Cowboys defensive speed there is no reasons team should be able to get outside on the run.

Bigger DE's is the answer to those outside runs...Osa and Golston. Because our linebackers how to run around the back side of our DE's who have been pushed backwards.

the packers rushed for 74 yards in the 4th quarter.....how is that even possible. as usual we gave up our customery 30+ yard run. and we gave up a 39 TD pass on a 4th down. they had 123 total yards in teh 4th....

sorry, our offense isn't clutch. our defense isn't clutch. out coaches aren't clutch. this team isn't clutch.

when you get an opponent, struggling, with injuries, then you put the dagger in and end them. but we played down to their level. this team is not capable of winning anything. its not an over reaction after a loss. been saying it in preseason.

for the Dak haters, Dak will be gone. and this trend of this team sucking will continue. its not going to change. this franchise is gaining value, the most valuable franchise in the WORLD and yet, we accomplish nothing.

tell me why Jerry/Stephen should change the way they run the team if I become more valuable every day?

Chunk plays were a problem for this team last year too.

What I don't get is why no one is pointing the finger at Quinn yet. What happened to the pass rush Sunday? It disappeared just when they needed it most. Rodgers had all the time in the world to throw. Micah had only 8 pass rushes on 23 drop backs.

and against a weaker OL at that..

the rushing game is slowing down the pass rush....teams can rush on any down and distance and they have success against this team. until we stop the bleeding, its not going to change. the defense has been exposed

That's one of the problems playing so much Nickel Defense and not having a bulky D-Line, preferring athleticism.....we are trying to produce a hybrid approach for all eventualities rather than focus on creating favorable counts. We have enough pass-rushing options play the run and if we cant switch-out then so be it.

Our problem appears to be that our coaches want to play for the hero play rather than the hard yards....preferring to highlight the spectacular (Sack and Pass) over the mundane bread and butter (Run both sides).
Agreed. Hopefully Barr can get healthy and Clark starts to get some experience. This past week I'm not sure if they really had a better option, they simply don't have 3 quality and healthy backers on the rosters right now, and crazy as it sounds our safeties have been some of the better run defenders on the team.

Really it's been a trend around the league for most teams outside of SF, Tennessee and a few others. The Hybrid defense had to happen to stop all the insane air attacks nearly every team has had for the past decade. Now that defenses started to catch up offenses are going back to run heavy approaches and very few teams are prepared.

On a positive note though I think the Cowboys are one team that is actually in position to correct the issue. Some teams I just don't think even have a chance without selling out to stop the run. The Cowboys have some personnel options they can tinker with. I also think part of the issue is just playing more disciplined football. Maintaining contain and sealing off the cutback lanes has been a huge issue for the run defense. A lot of that has to do with playing team defense and trusting the guys around you instead of looking to fill up the stat sheet.

You're not wrong, but I think this still ties into the run game failures.

I'm not a fan of having Parsons play as much LB as he did, but also have to admit that when he did rush the passer he simply didnt look the same. I would have to bet that groin injury is still lingering. Plus with all the issues in the run game and as dominant as Parsons has been overall teams have had success running right at him. Get the run game issues fixed and all of a sudden this pass run can become dominant again.

As far as Quinn goes I think he is starting to feel some heat, and if the issues dont get corrected within the next couple of games I bet that flame gets turned up another notch. I think the guy has earned himself a little bit of time though to get things corrected. This time last week we still had threads on this board asking should Jerry get rid of MM at season end just to make sure that DQ doesn't leave. You just can't ride the emotional roller coaster week to week in the NFL.

We don’t have great DTs
We play our best LB at DE so he is wearing down and our MLB is trash
The team plays with poor discipline and gap control

It is pretty clear that DQ is not all that

Micah Parsons greatest value is rushing the passer. He is not much better than the other LBs when team run at him.

All of the rest is true. What I don't get is Quinn rotating DTs, even deactivating them (and cutting Trysten Hill) but he seems unwilling to rotate tin new LBs to see if any of them can make a different. I guess he knows his players better than we do, but I really don't see much change to help stop the run.

And btw, they got Hankins and the run defense has gotten worse since he got here. That's because the problem was not inside runs, it is the outside runs. The problem was not the DTs, it was the DEs who struggled to defend the edges. And when they do the LBs get blocked out too easily because they are late getting into the gap. Run defense is a team effort.

The Eagles RBs averaged 4.7 yards per carry against Washington and Washington might have the best DT combo in the league. When teams double the DT and seal the DE it is the LBs responsibility to get in the ole and stop the run with the safeties there just in case the LB missed the block. Those chunk plays that runners get against Dallas are too frequent and the result of LBs and DBs not getting up soon enough. The Cowboys LBs struggle getting off blocks and can't get to the outside. The Packers did a good job of running when Dallas was expecting Rodgers to throw.

Also, keep in mind the Cowboys were missing 2 starting CBs. QBs are going to pick on Bland and Joseph as long as they are in the game. Both are inexperienced and showed it against GB. Rodgers is not going to make many wild throws to give them any breaks either.

The Cowboys really looked disjointed on defense Sunday. Not enough pass rush. No run defense. and the DBs looked overmatched at times. Maybe it was just one of those games. We'll find out when they play the Vikings.

I think it is clear by now what the problem is defending the run. Quinn needs to make changes or we will see the same thing every week. The Vikings present a big problem too. They can run and throw the football. The Cowboys have to decide who they want to stop.

In the future. However many years.

Next QB. Next group of players. Same result will continue

Then be prepared to be vastly disappointed for the next few years, because so long as Father & Son Jones are around, they are gonna be Dak's side support.
no matter what.

if anything, the Jones management are gonna look at the coaches cross-eyed and blame them for any perceived criticism that is directed at the QB, because they'll feel the
coaches did not do their best in placing Dak in the best position.

And its' always much easier replacing the HC, and assistants than it is the starting franchise cornerstone QB.

SMH....I did say originally after Dak, meaning however long it takes and then the next QB. I didn't mean as if Dak is going to be cut and gone next year.

the point being under jones, players have come and gone. QBs have come and gone. the result is always the same.

Parsons is too small to hold up at DE full time
Either play him as Rush LB or he will break down

The problem is both inside and outside runs. When you play DE at DT teams will run inside like GB just did. When your DEs are undisciplined and you play an extra safety in place of LB, teams will run outside like everyone is doing to us

DQ needs to wake up

Well the team brought in Hankins to stop the running....

I think the expectations of Hankins were to bring a guy into the rotation who was a better run stopper and who could hold up to a double team better than a guy like Trysten Hill. I think the expectations were correct and noone expected Hankins to play like he did 4 years ago.

The main reason is that our CB’s simply don’t want to help out in run defense. Teams are winning at our CB’s and they’re unwilling to tackle. Jaylon Kearse is another big reason. He’s had a dramatic regression this year. LVE is what he is average. When Micah is lined up as an off ball LB even he isn’t what I hoped he would be there. I think the speed of Jabril Cox would help but this staff has some kind of vendetta against him.

Parsons is perfect 3-4 OLB or ILB.
