We are at best, even when healthy, a B level team. We can beat the bad teams handily, compete with the midling teams, and lose to the contenders.

MM has not achieved his number one goal: winning in the playoffs and contending for a championship.

His teams struggle to start games effectively, they are penalty prone, turn the ball over, and play sloppy, undisciplined football and their ability to execute diminishes whenever they face a competent team. They are also poor at situational football, game management, and are predictable. He is regularly out-coached and out-schemed.

The macro change we need at the top GM position won’t happen. Barring that, seeing how this team is far from competitive against its top division rival— change at HC was needed after GB— and is trending again. Should they get throttled vs Wash, the calls for a new HC will only grow louder and more demanding.

So who do we bring in? Brady? Johnson? Fangio? Flores? IMO— We need a tough guy to replace MM’s soft, penalty ridden, and turnover prone regime.

I would consider throwing some money at Vic Fangio. Hiring Fangio strengthens us and weakens our greatest threat in the division.

Hire a young offensive assistant from the Shanahan, Brady, or O’Neill trees and give him the opportunity to cook at OC and build the offense around a competent running game.

The fact this team was embarrassed like it was against Philly reveals just how far we have to go. Mike hasn’t gotten it done yet against inferior competition in the NFC. Why would he be able to now that the NFC is getting more competitive?

The time to rip the bandaid off is now. Fangio would bring an attitude and a toughness to the team, and with Parsons he has a generational talent to build around.

I know Vic is not many people’s top choice at HC because he washed out before, but I would strongly consider making the move and giving him 4 years to try and maximize this window we have with Dak.

Should we not get it done— we rebuild and prep for life after Dak. A strong, tough, aggressive HC is what we need to instill the fire and fight we need to compete in a rough and tumble NFC.
Shocker. A Dallas fan who wants another retread at head coach. You deserve to eat, sleep, and poop mediocrity.

I agree with a lot of this other than it is MM's team, it is Jerry's team. Jerry's teams struggle.

A change at GM is never happening which is stated in the OP.

The only hope we have is at the HC and staff level that can make some micro changes and improvements within the culture that lead to better execution.

Granted— that HC will have to always deal with a FO that makes things difficult — but I have given up all hope that Skeletor and his family will ever loose their death grip on the franchise lol
Winning the Division is our new SB with GM Jethro. Expecting anything better than that is unrealistic.

It all starts with Jerry and ends with Jerry. Fans can blame Dak, but Jerry gave Dak the contract.

We can blame HC's that have no input on off season and FA decisions.

We have become the Al Davis' Oakland Raiders.

Don't be surprised if we draft a punter in round 3.

With Dak's contract and the level of play we saw from him this season and the state of his mobility which is key in modern quarterbacks...there is genuinely no hope.

Different coaches, different schemes, different players, drafting a running back etc. Ultimately at some point Dak Prescott would need to make some big boy throws at clutch moments to win the games that matter which he hasn't done in 9 years even with at times the best offensive line in the league including two likely Hall of Fame lineman and Tight End, All Pro running back and Wide Receiver plus a bunch of Pro Bowl wide receivers - there's no hope until Dak is out of Dallas. Even at that point much will depend on the ownership and front office...

Jerry Jones is currently an older Dan Snyder. No more no less. It is what it is.

McCarthy would be dumb to want an extension. He is a good coach with an anchor hooked to his neck. He is not a great coach. He had a first ballot hall of fame QB in his prime and won one title. That wasn't near enough.

That said he will get another shot down the road most likely. He will always have "Super Bowl Winning Coach" on his resume.

fangio couldnt get it done in denver, he's a good DC not a HC
Fangio maybe a little too honest to be a head coach in today’s world. I love his interviews, he doesn’t hold back. I could see players getting pissed with his honest truth if he was the HC. This was probably what happened in Miami. He doesn’t sugar coat anything. Nick gets a lot of hate but he really does connect with the players. Fangio is a perfect number 2 enforcer.

I am not buying into the hype of mobility. Brady just recently retired.

1. Dak is a LOT of what is wrong with this franchise. He’s not the only thing but he is a major part of it.

2. I don’t have a huge feeling one way or the other on MM. I think swapping out coaches can help but the contracts the Cowboys dole out and how they approach free agency are the biggest issue.
Yeah, it’s Prescott‘s fault. Byron Jones didn’t get deep up on Aaron Rodgers.
it was Prescott’s fault Elliott held out
it was Prescott’s fault the Rams ran up and down the field on us.

It was Prescott’s fault that we lost Jason Whitten Freddie Bryant in the same season
it was Prescott’s fault, it was Prescott’s fault.
Never would’ve resigned him either, but it wasn’t Prescott’s fault. LMAO.

He’s given us more winning seasons than not. I’m sick of everybody blaming Jerry, it’s ridiculous.
I am a Dallas Cowboys fan. I will never set the bar that low.

He has given us more winning seasons than not? I get the feeling that you want to count the seasons 1989 to 1995. Don't bother. Anyone watching them during those days know full well that all he did was sign checks, greet new players at the airport, and interfere with the real football experts.

Jimmy built it, Jerry couldn't sustain it.

Jerry's real "reign" was when he actually had to begin performing the duties of GM after Jimmy left. It only took three seasons after Jimmy left for Jerry to destroy a dynasty.

From 1996 to the present, the Cowboys have 14 winning seasons, 5 tie seasons, and 9 losing seasons. Therefore, the number of non-winning seasons are equal to the number of winning seasons.

Jerry Jones, master of mediocrity.

we draft in the middle because we play 50-50 football. When it was 16 games, it was 8/8. Yes I’d rather know we can win every game. We step on the field to play. They lose for three or four seasons to get a better draft pick. I’ll take winning regular season games every single day of the week, if a championship comes, it comes. I’m not tanking to win a championship.

Jimmy did not build it, they Both built it.
That is a ridiculous statement. Jimmy built it by himself. Lol.
this is the first season out of the last four we didn’t make the playoffs. That seems like improvement to me.

For 20 consecutive seasons from 1988 to 1985, the Dallas Cowboys drafted in the bottom third of the draft. During five of those seasons, they drafted either last or 2nd to last.

And, yet, during those 20 seasons they went to the playoffs 18 times, the NFC championship game 12 times and the Super Bowl 5 times.

I'm with you. I choose winning over draft position. Winning has to be part of the team culture.
