The Patrick Peterson Scenarios

 How silly folks

You guys all know (in the words of Herm Edwards):
You play to win the game.

Not some here. I wouldnt be able to look at myself in the mirror knowing I tried to lose a game.

We didnt have to purposely lose.

We couldve just played our b team against the eagles b team.

Peterson is probably the one guy I don't want (or Castonzo).

Just curious. Why?

Let's say Garrett played our "b" team. We get get beat or worse clobbered. Who does that help? Would you want that hanging over your head all offseason whether you are a coach or a player? Putting a guy on the field just so he can get some playing time isn't always what's best for the player or the team. Putting a young-inexperienced player in a situation that he's not ready for can often do more harm then good.

We as fans don't need to see the "b" team play so we can evaluate them. The coaches are seeing them everyday. Let them worry about that.

I do think Garrett wanted a good look at McGee--which you could best get by at least playing most of your starters along with him.

I also don't think Garrett thought for sure that he had the job locked up.

I would have liked to see them get look at several of the younger players, but I for sure did want them throwing the game.

We barely squeeked out a W with our A team + McGee. Who did that help?

What situation were our backups not ready for? To play against other backups?

I'm one of the fans who think we should make a move for peterson. I think this draft should be about quality not quantity. If we can pick up pp. Our defense would take a drastic turn in becoming a top 5 defense. Just ask rob brother how it worked out when he moved up to get darrelle revis.

This is tiresome.

Yes, we barely squeaked one out. Which really shows you how important the position of QB is in the NFL. Mcgee isn't ready. If we had sat our starters, we would've put him in a position to fail. He also probably gets killed.

And, let's say we did sit/rest our starters....What message does that send?

Yeah, we're not even going to try.

It's like the Skins back in 07. We sat our starters after quarter number one, and the Skins beat us. They didn't quit.

Name one team that's done what you've suggested.

IMO, the game did matter. It mattered to the players. They obviously wanted to win.

I'm glad we did....

That has played backups?

I wanted them to get a longer look at some of the young guys instead of trotting out guys like Colombo.

This cannot be argued with.

Dallas should have evaluated everything they had a RT last year instead of putting Colombo out there.

The results would not have been any worse as far as play at RT.

If there's one thing a crappy season gives you the chance to do, it's evaluate.

Lost opportunity, really.

No.

A team that's out of the playoffs sitting all their starters to gain a few slots in the draft.

Teams rest their starters before the playoffs all the time....but, I've never seen it work the other way.

I expect the Cowboys to really try to trade up for Peterson. They have a history of going after the guys that stand out who are within a reasonable distance to nab. So if it doesn't happen it's because teams like Cleveland just don't want to move down or want too much.

If we chose watt I would be pretty bummed. I rather resign spears then choose watt.

I've never seen a team tank for a draft pick but I've seen plenty evaluate talent.

He's constantly being projected to safety, but the guy scored like an 8 on the Wunderlic and has never been described as instinctive, so I think its a huge gamble. He's gotten by on being way more athletic than everyone else. He's a cheeseburger short of 230 pounds. I bet when he's Roy 31's age he'll be built just like him. He went to LSU, they have a lot of NFL busts.

Dez was 225 last year. As soon as they drafted him they told him to lose weight.

Well put.

And for the last time, those of us that wouldn't have minded if Dallas lost that meaningless game against Philly's 2nd stringers are NOT suggesting that Dallas should have "thrown" the game. No professional team should ever purposely lose. But, as a fan who cares about the future of this team, I saw the benefits of playing our young guys. I also saw the benefits of not winning that game. Sitting at #6 right now we would have an excellent chance to take PP or whomever we want. We would also have a higher pick in every other round. The thought of giving picks away to move up a couple of spots in this round wouldn't even be there. Now, based on our insiders, we are likely to move up if Peterson makes it to 6 and give away a valuable 3rd.

It's nice that we went 5-3 under Garrett and I understand the importance of that game to him and the players. But, as a fan, I saw the benefits of not winning that game and would be happy sitting there at #6 right now. #9 ended up being ok and it could have been worse. We could've potentailly picked a few slots lower so it worked out ok. I just hate the idea of moving up.

Exactly this. If Garrett is the future like we all think then a meaningless loss against the Eagles C team means absolutely nothing.

And as it turns out, even w/ several nice late the game moments, everyone here hates Stephen McGee anyway so what the hell did that game mean?
