It is true that New England has won an awful lot since Belichick and Brady arrived in Boston. That winning makes fans all over the nation because... well... because it is human nature to latch on to a winning franchise when you're looking for a team. Even the Romans knew that everybody loves a winner. So yeah, they probably do travel well. Heck, even here in New Orleans I know several guys who are Patriots fans. They are from around here but they happened to latch on to the winningest franchise. Funny how that happens.
It is also funny how most of them are just casual fans and don't really know the in's and out's of football.
Anyway, all that is just the way it is. It doesn't mean that New England will win as much once Brady retires, nor does it mean they would win without Belichick. Lord knows he puts out some terrible coaches that were his assistants. It also doesn't mean that Dallas won't continue their winning ways once they get their guys back.
But what bothers me about that article is just the hubris of the author. It is easy to write that piece without having his team face Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, etc. It is like having a fight scheduled against a great boxer and then when you show up, it is his little brother instead of him. I mean of course Dallas is underdogs. A good portion of what makes the Cowboys so dangerous won't even be suiting up today. Not only that but the OL missed so much time collectively, that they're having to work themselves back into a cohesive unit.
New England should win. Pointing at this game saying that New England is taking the Cowboys legacy is the height of hubris. Well, that and the whole idea that this season is about Brady and the Patriots 'punishing' the rest of the league. As if. I mean, give me a break.
This isn't the game that people wanted to see but hey, if it makes it easier for their franchise to win, no problem. They'll just act like Dallas can't win because their team is so angry and super awesome. Not because Dallas is without Dez, Romo, and the others.
Of course, what else should I expect from a Boston reporter?
