I don't think you understand. NE had multiple 2nd round picks. They wanted to select Smith with one of those picks. Once Dallas took him at #34 NE didn't see the "value" in any of the remaining players so they traded the pick. NE would actually have moved up for Smith if he there in the late 40s but he was long gone by then.

And are a perennial playoff team with multiple 2nds to burn on an IR player...context of the pick and all. We aren't the Pats, we are 4-12 w/a dud @ HC. They can pick Smith in the 2nd bc they have the LUXURY to do so; we don't.

Right and if you do some research you'll find that Jaylon is a diehard Patriots fan. So the Cowboys basically took his dream away from him.

I'll let each individual decide whether they can still root for such a heartless, selfish organization. I know how I feel about it.

Seriously. People were preparing themselves to cry about trading up for Ogbah and when that fell through cried about Smith.

I just didn't want an IR player in the 2nd regardless of who we picked otherwise as long as they were expected to contribute or even start this year. Screams luxury pick and this team is nothing without Romo so didn't fit our needs at all considering that we got Zeke in the 1st (Romo win now mode). Didn't love it but behind that, now you IR the 34th in win now mode?

Made me just scratch my head over and over and over....Dodd and Ogbah are gone, go with Spence, Ragland, Spriggs, even Bell (S), a reach would start over Church, etc. Don't IR dis thang. Didn't take any pet cat to make ya not like the pick, etc. I guess the only thing I saw positive from it, was that when announced, his first name didn't start with Connor; that's what I was primarily scared of what JJ would do, but he went a different way Take Jaylen over Cook anyday...

I love the "that team can afford to do that" mindset. That's another code draft for need thing. They constantly try to repackage it.

Here's how I see it. There is only one way to build a quality football team. The draft. There is only one way to properly approach the draft. Acquire talent first and foremost. You are making long term investments.

It's not a team can or can't afford to do that thing. All teams must do that if they want to have any sustained success in the league.

I salute the Cowboys for taking Elliott and Smith with those first two picks. It was very much anti-need and pro-talent. They got 2 of the top 5 talents in this draft. Now they need a little good fortune to reap the benefits of it. The long term benefits of it.

I'm not even going to waste my time speaking on the upside of Smith compared to any other player at that point. We're talking one of the most talented defenders the Cowboys have ever drafted here. It's a no brainer selection when they are given good intel by the doctor who performed the surgery.

I can't preach BPA all the time and then criticize the Cowboys when they do just that simply because I'm impatient and want immediate pay out. This was a good decision. In philosophy. Even if it fails, I'd want them to do it again if they're ever in this situation. The approach is correct.

It's the NFL Draft with 31 other teams involved. All of the players are being considered by other teams.
