with the cowboys now, it is a perfect storm with the escalating cap, romo coming off the books and dak being cheap for 3 more years - all happening at the same time.
that is 3 independent events conspiring to enable the bliss to last more than 3 years.
there are no guarantees in life, but denver did it with the expiring Manning.
i dont know how the giants structured their rebuild last year.
i think the eagles tried.
seattle did not need to do it because they were young and their 3rd round QB took them to the promise land.
the one team that definitely did not do it was Carolina - they did not even keep their team together.
Those teams had cap space. Having space and creating space are not the same. Of all the teams listed, the one that restructures the most is Carolina.[/QUOTE]
ok, perhaps carolina did not realize losing the cb would have such a large effect.
nevertheless, it is a small # of teams that can do what i suggested to get over the top.
so if the cowboys have to compete for FAs, they would have a significant advantage over the lower-level teams.
furthermore, i would suspect pr/endorsements would be better in dallas than steelers, green bay, atlanta, carolina, cardinals, and kansas city.
the only debatable one is raiders - but their move to vegas could affect things.
they have incentives to make a big bang but they may also want to lay low while this move has not happened.
so the cowboys have an economic advantage and pr advantage over essentially every team that could do effectively pursue such a strategy.
finally the tank may even not happen if we continue to draft well.
obviously, another draft like 2016 and tank is not needed - but no one is holding their breathe for that.
buying the best team money can buy would allow BPA to maximize the chance to draft at least 1 probowler per year.
when i say BPA, i mean even OL or QB, as both would be great trading assets.
may be RB would be the lone exception not to draft using a #1.
