Just looked it up. They had him as a second rounder, and below Escobar. So we passed twice when he was BPA( maybe 3, I don't remember if he went before Webb)

If so, then it was twice.
I wonder if they had him grouped with T Will and Webb.
I mean, they have a list but in reality they're all in groups (tiers) and you pick and choose from players tiered together. Need would win out in case. Still Best Player Grouping.
As you most likely already know.

But if Nassib was in a higher tier altogether say a tier with Escobar and separated from the later picks, then they ignored BPA.

Ex

Escobar
Others players
Nassib
---------
Next tier including Webb, etc
---------
Next tier
Etc

Like you say, I doubt that'd happen this year.

Best thing to do is build the defense up the best we can the next 2 years. So when we get a new qb he has a good defense and a good oline. So hopefully we wont be out of contention for too many years.

remember something said some years ago about QBs

"1 out of 10 drafted amount to something"

"And only 1 out of 5 of THEM become elite"

There have been 234 QBs drafted in the last 20 years.
About 22-24 became good starters...and I was lenient (Newton, A Smith, Flacco made the cut)
Maybe 5-8 were truly outstanding.

There were several years where not a single QB drafted ever became a consistently good NFL QB....let alone a top 5-10 one.

2004 was very good with Rivers, Roethlisberger, and E Manning.
Then in 2013, 11 were drafted and there's a real chance than none amount to anything much.

Drafting a QB too early doesn't help you properly build a team. First, you take away resources that could have helped Romo win games, second while Romo is still playing, you're losing years on the rookie contract.

The best part of a rookie quarterback is not having to pay him veteran money. You want to maximize that. So either you start a rookie or start them in their second year.

Until we see signs that Romo can't play out his contract, we should focus entirely on building the best team possible for him and for his replacement.

Some of the best examples are Ben Roethlisberger and Russell Wilson. You want a QB who doesn't have to do very much to win games, but has the talent to make plays when they need to.

Finish creating a top flight defense, and the rest will take care of itself.

That's what a lot of posters don't realize. Our best chance to win involves Romo and putting a team around him. The chances of getting an elite QB to replace Romo on our first try? Slim. They need to look at teams around the league who have tried. However, if you create a great team, most competent QBs can win behind that team. Let's create a great team, and not keep drafting qbs left and right hoping to hit the jackpot.

If McClay and his troops REALLY like a quarterback, draft him. Otherwise, just keep looking for Dustin Vaughns to pull a Romo.

The trouble teams get into is drafting quarterbacks just because they are desperate to find one.

I never understood the fascinaton in Ponder, Gabbert, Locker, Geno, etc. Did they not watch these guys in college? They should have all been sixth rounders like Brady. Not worthy of first round risk for a hope and a prayer.

If Dallas don't invest in s QB for the future, they will be make the same mistakes that these other teams have made. It has happened plenty of times in the post-Aikman era. I can feel another Quincy in the future.

have not really looked closely but it seems to me that it is rare for just one QB to make it when they do - usually several like in 2004. NOW the year Luck came out might be one of the exceptions to that rule.

While the possibility of success at drafting a QB is slim, those possibilities increase if you give them time to learn and develope on the bench. I think that is one of the reasons that Aaron Rodgers is so good. If you can get a guy in the 2nd or 3rd that has top talent and afford to sit him on the bench 2-3 years and just learn without the pressure to make him start too soon, then I think those possibilities increase dramatically. How many guys get to do that? They either get drafted in the early first by a team that needs a Qb and usually has little to support him or they get drafted early 2nd by that same team and they still need him to start.

That is why I am a big fan of Bryce Petty and a 2nd would not bother me at all. I think you get a great competitor with all the tools that needs time to learn the pro game.
