The plan is to keep trying out a bunch of failed MLB players and maybe a 2nd round drug addict.

Tell that to the Packers who drafted Aaron Rodgers to sit on for 3 years.

31 other teams for 20 years that it didn't happen for = 620 times it didn't happen
Ok...maybe not everyone, but you and I both know the odds of a freak incident like Aaron Rodgers falling in the draft AND him being able to sit 3 years behind a HOFer is way beyond rare.
I know you know that, but just saying it one more time.

I do think if the opportunity strikes and a player is there that we absolutely love, we should take the chance. And later in the draft we're at a point that a experiment is ok too.

I don't have a problem with the Cowboys picking up at least one QB every draft from here on out until they believe they have someone showing a reasonable amount of promise. And when they have said player - go ahead and draft his competition the following year. FA QBs like Weeden or whomever mans the backup position will have to be the buffer or bridge between Romo and his successor.

Dallas is too talented and drafts too low that they're probably not going to be in line to snag the next Aikman or Manning. But they could get the next mid-to-late round gem.

The main thing is don't throw the kid to the wolves if you can avoid it. Bring him along slowly until he's had a chance to gain confidence and an understanding of the position. I think playing these young QBs before they are seasoned has wrecked a whole lot of talented young prospects. Let their brains catch up to their bodies.

Is there anyone on this board that thinks Weeden should continue to be the #2 behind Romo? Not sure if Dallas still does, but he's still on the roster, so it is what it is. Based upon what I saw in Cleveland and last year, he is a liability so we should be looking at any/all opps to improve that position.

I have no idea why Weeden is still on the roster frankly...............if he plays, its an auto loss.............we didn't win a single game where he took a snap last season.

to be fair, he only started one game. But, yes.....he does suck :)

I would wait, or stick to rounds 1-3. Keep the odds in your favor when dealing with the most important position in football. No bargain shopping.

you can go back several more years and the percentage does not change much. Cam Newton, Luck, Wilson are the only three that you can really make a case for at this time. Now a couple others like Tannahill and Kapernick might get there. But does anyone think they will ever be ELITE?

we might get lucky and draft the next Luck, etc. I mean it IS possible.

I said the year that Luck entered the draft that I would have traded an entire draft class away to get him, maybe more. Looking back, it wouldn't have been a bad decision.
