The position that really needs an upgrade

General Mgr comes to mind, but I digress...

I would list the following positions that may need some strengthening:

1. Safety- Everyone already knows this position needs some help. And if Kevin Frazier’s health issue ends up being serious, we will really need additional help.
2. DT- nuff said.
3. TE- we may have enough here...but we may not. I expect we may pick up someone off the late cut list in early Sept. if our current TEs are not showing enough.

RB? I’m not seeing that as a weak position with Smith and Scarborough but I guess we will see.

Elliott, Smith and Austin, we have 3 that can run and catch. I wonder if Austin can block though.

Hard to truly guess untill we see them play in a game but I would think QB and safety have the shollowest depths. Can no longer include a 1tech since rod will just put a DE sized guy there anyway.

We did draft another 4th round QB, along with rush that may be good enough to get through a season. Not enough to win a playoff game if needed. While Heath is the only free safety who has actually made plays in the playoffs vs a soon to be HOF QB.

I think Bo can be a very good back up. Rod Smith does get too much love around here.

With increasing David Irving drama, the answer is DT. Being strong up the middle is important for a defense and we are not.

The more I think about it, the more I think the position that needs upgrading possibly more than anything other than 1T is backup running back. We really need a stud to back up Zeke in case he gets hurt.
I wanted a mid round guy to at least be developing someone.

But apparently most of the team roster projections include Bo. That's something.

And between Tavon, Olawale, and Dak, we should be good for 10 carries by someone not named Zeke.

It's puzzling that they've done so little at DT with the apparent Irving debacle looming.

The problem is, getting running backs that can do what Zeke does, requires a top 10 pick to get.

So having a backup as good as him, is just not realistic.
A back as good as Zeke wouldn't be playing backup on any team unless he was injury prone or trouble and no one else wanted to sign him.

If Zeke goes down early, get Murray on the phone.

I might get some heat for that but he knows this line, the system, coaches and is better than what we have.

He’s not a “backup RB” though, he’s a starter IMO.

I think Rod and Bo will be fine as back ups.

DT and S should be scaring the sh** out of all of us right now.

If the Eagles had adopted that approach last year they wouldn't have won the SB. We need to be able to compete and win, if Zeke is out.

you stated that you wanted a stud at back up rb. imo the eagles have no stud rbs in their pen and haven't invested any more in starting or backup rbs compared to our team. ajay is the closest but he's only above average imo. blount is old, sproles was hurt, clement was an udfa. so if you compare our rb situation (zeke > Ajayi, smith > blount, austin = sproles), we've invested more in rb (bo (6th round vs udfa clement) compared to the eagles. they haven't invested in any studs at starter or backup imo.

I think as good as Stephen is perceived as Personnel GM, (We all know Clay does the Heavy lifting) his moves at Backup qb (see 2015 and he already took responsibility for that) His stubborn resistance to consider a vet or drafted one tech, and the latest potentially last solid piece of the rebuild, SS or FS, the front office is the name of our pain in the highest perc%

COWBOYS although the analysts in the NFL Gloriously now are under rating them, have once again one of the best running back corps in the NFL..ROD was effective in Elliots absence last year..With the cap dynamics now in the NFL, the running back position on the Cowboys not a issue.. Other spots are as previously listed...

My gott man, comparing the Cowboys to the Eagles, hurts my brain!

No back on this roster can do anything near what he can do. If Zeke were to go down in game 1, I really think this team is probably a 7 and 9 team. With Zeke it is a contender.

Hopefully, we will be looking to improve this position if an unexpected cut happens and the opportunity arises. I am not satisfied with Bo, or Rod or the other guy. Austin isn't an every down back.

We are thin behind Zeke. That's a problem that could eventually cost us big time if zeke misses any significant time.

Backup running back ? Have you seen our safeties or whatever passes for one on this team ?

You do know Murray retired, right?

Definitely means he won't be in the backfield as much as they like.

Then tell me he didn't light the world on fire last yr when we needed him to step up?

Alfred Morris was the primary backup last year. Smith did well in the opportunities he got though, and he can help much more as a receiver than Morris could.

And the reality is there is nobody available that is going to be a dramatic upgrade over Smith. Maybe there will be a surprise cut like the OP mentioned, but otherwise Smith is our best bet.
