I'm enjoying the growing possibility that we'll have four new linemen next year.

The big questions though are whether or not keep the status quo jones will do the right thing or not.

The right thing is a)cutting ware b) not resigning hatcher and c)not resigning spencer. Let that era end. And see this defense get a new lease on life.

Also I'd still release Brandon Carr.

I just posted in another thread that they could cut Ware, sign 2 free agent DL and get 2 DL in the draft. That could be 4 new starters on the DL.

They can't cut Carr due to the cap ramifications.

Cutting Ware saves 7.5M.

Depends what you consider "new."

There's a pretty good chance that Crawford and Bass are both starting.

show me a way we can replace both dt's, ware and carr and i would be all for it. just don't think you can replace all of them in one year myself and improve the team. if we cut ware we will need 2 dt's and a de. i think you could do that with one free agent and the draft. but you may have to move up in the second to do that. but i would be fine with that. but throw in another starter quality cb and i think it gets mighty hard to fill that many spots. but i'm open to a plan to do it

You can't, not in one year. This team has not had a true rebuilding season(s) since 89-91. IT's time to do it and just accept a year or two of 8-8 at best

Why? If you can pay them you can pay other free agents.

I think you could make a decent argument that, with the influx of young players over the last two or three years, that is exactly what's been happening. Its just a slow, rather than abrupt, rebuild.

I still don't think Ware is going anywhere but we'll see I guess. 3 new talented d line man is a must though. No more throwing a guy who weighs 280+ lbs in there and hoping for the best.

1: Cut Ware :'(

2: Sign a DL player in FA

3: I think we'll draft 2 DL players, one DT and one DE

4: Crawford and Bass come back

There's four new Defensive Lineman.

He was having a really good camp and pushing for a starting spot anyways.

That's the same old Valley Ranch hype you hear about every player. Besides, how hard is it to compete for a starting spot on that line? You mean he was almost as good as Nick Hayden? Oh, boy.

Lighten up Francis, I didn't say he was an all pro. I said he was having a good camp.

With the holes on the D, its reasonable to think he could be starting next year.

Hey, I didn't say it wasn't reasonable to think he could be starting. I just don't think it will bode well for the overall talent of the front seven if that's the case.

Look, I understand the criticism of Sean Lee and his inability to stay healthy, but he's ripped from pillar to post on here for injuries. Yet, Ben Bass is now being considered someone to count on? The same Ben Bass that was I think brought up last November and has now remained healthy for 2 out of a possible 25 games the last 1.5 seasons? Comical.

He has 1 tackle in his career. He must have tackled the trainer coming to help him off the field.

Interesting thought, I have not looked at it that way.
I was thinking Ware restructures, Selvie competes with Crawford. And 2 new DT's. One FA, One drafted.

So sign 2 FA's, DE, DT, Draft 2, DT, DE, either one in either 1st or 2nd round, doesn't matter what order.

Not really-Hatcher himself said Bass was the reason he probably wouldn't be around next year. Guy was having a good camp.
Having said that, coming off an injury and given his relative inexperience I would consider him only a rotational guy at this point.
