The process that led to the Cowboys hiring Brian Schottenheimer

This will make you sick.

A reminder on the process that led to the Cowboys hiring Brian Schottenheimer:

- Dallas sent Mike McCarthy into lame duck 2024
- The season went predictably bad
- They missed the playoffs
- They spent the Wild Card Round doing nothing, going back and forth with him
- This made potentially interviewing top candidates at the time (Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn) impossible, literally
- Monday of the Wild Card Round they finally separated
- The first report of Schotty being connected to the job was because he was the betting favorite out of nowhere
- It was after that it was reported he was having an interview
- They announced him as the new head coach on a Friday night, very un-Cowboys

The whole thing was a mess and so of course here we are.

It's really a lot simpler than that. It was just that the puppet strings fit Schotty nicely!

Why did they go for 2 last night?
they thought GOTI could do it easily, 90% chance of success!!
Letting Dak or the team name themselves GOTI was a mistake, and shotty should have crushed that name, instead he thought it was ok.

Teams always think they can get the 2, and when they dont they are shocked lol.
I bet dallas doesnt even have a set of special 2pt plays they can call . Shotty probably just picks a random play lol. and I think it was to ferguson who is not consistent. And their secondary was playing good, but dallas was running good so probably should have just ran it.

This makes other defenses want to beat them even more than normal.
All it did was make winning harder.
And the way these clowns play most of the time , that was the last thing they needed to do was give other teams more motivation.
Bowles coached the best def game he has in years, and he was smiling at the end , he almost never does that.

I saw jerry talking to people after the game and he was asked about parker, and he hasnt given up on parker yet,and same for shotty.
So I guess he will at very least wait till it is too late to have a winning season, or till off season, or worse case,
wait until their contracts run out , because he is so cheap!!!!!!!!!!

How can any fair minded individual have expected Brian Shottenheimer to be any good? Please people be better.

And I'll own up to it. I thought it was a terrible process/hire at the time. But then he did a few things that I liked, and the staff cultivation looked good (Adams/Riley). And it looked like we had something with Parker also... but like, this team has enough talent that the result should be better than this.

Getting bullied by an 0-4 team without it's starting QB is absolutely rock bottom for this franchise in the Dak era.

And if we're changing Head Coaches, you have to ask the question... should we just blow it all up?
The Cowboys 2 wins are against teams with a combined one win between them. The Cowboys were completely outcoached by the Bucs just like they were against the Giants. For the life of me, I don't know how they were able to compete with the Ravens.

Rex Ryan was wanting to come here years ago, but then jones boys made an offer , and it was too low,
I think he would have to take a cut in pay to come here lol.

I bet rex could turn this defense around in 2 weeks. It would be avg to above avg defense.
Finding another HC is harder if you want things to actually improve significantly.
I would keep shotty till I found someone for sure better. ( and not witten lol)

We wanted to see what he could do lol.
Now we have seen enough.
He is nice guy , good talker, but he isnt getting better.
I thought this season he would be alot better than his first year,I also thought parker would have a good defense,
but a big NO on both !!
They both are bad and just too stupid.

Shottenheimer has bounced around football for over 2 decades. A dozen or so jobs. Never stood out. Not once. In his 50s hand wrapped a HC job you think he would just be a star? Parker coached secondaries under a very good DC. Never built and called a defense before. Had VF to do that. What would tell you he was going to step into a DC role at 34 in Dallas and just be a stud coordinator? A long shot at best.

Factor in the cupcake culture and it was definitely going to fail.

This franchise may be at a breaking point.

You could've still won it at the end with a 2pt. There's no reason to go for 2 there. You hold off on that decision until you have to.
Because it is statistically the best chance for a win. Holding off until the end is the worst way to do it if you're going to do it.

Are we pretending Aaron Glenn is doing a great job?

Obviously Schotty isn't, but it undercuts the point a bit when you bring up missing out on the chance for Glenn.

Right the season is clarifying.

Washington/Baltimore at the time appeared to be decent opponents. Houston? Yeah... that one brought us down to earth. TB... nope, season's done, haha.

There was hope it would improve over time, but it looks like it's going the wrong direction.

This is just stupid. It helped lose us the game because it was a sub-moronic decision. If you are going for a win on a 2pt conversion you ONLY do it at the very end to win or lose the game outright.

You don't ever do it in that situation because failing the 2 pointer is more likely than not, and now you put more pressure on your team because they have to chase that missing two points.

This is not rocket surgery.

Yup and we had fans telling us he was better than Johnson, and Glenn because had more experience.

Bad experience i experience I guess.

Glad hes changing the culture though.

Hope Dak still likes him
Ben Johnson I read nobody he was better than Ben.

When the primary goal of your hire is comfort level over competence, that's how you end with Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Dont forget about the Deion Sanders "Interview" wink, wink.
