The process that led to the Cowboys hiring Brian Schottenheimer

It's pretty simple Mccarthy wanted out and wanted the steelers job so he asked for a big extension following a humiliating playoff loss knowing he wasn't getting it, and we're stuck with visor boy.

This is just stupid. It helped lose us the game because it was a sub-moronic decision. If you are going for a win on a 2pt conversion you ONLY do it at the very end to win or lose the game outright.

You don't ever do it in that situation because failing the 2 pointer is more likely than not, and now you put more pressure on your team because they have to chase that missing two points.

This is not rocket surgery.
This is wrong. It did not help us lose, we never got to a 2nd TD.

If you're going to go for 2 for the win, it's better to go when you are down 2 scores, not 1. Then, if you miss, you have another option to extend the game and see what happens. Doing it at the end there is zero chance to try again if you fail. You're one and done. Going for it at the end is clearly a greater chance for losing.

No, failing the two pointer is not more likely than not.

You're not "chasing the 2 points" You're just chasing the 2nd score, and now you have more chances.

Going for it on the 2nd instead of the first makes absolutely no sense.

Glenn was the only one possibly gettable and Jets fans have been calling for him to be fired since last season. Even then he’s a former Jets legend so they had the inside track all along.

McDonald, Vrabel and Cohen all had one destination possible.

Flores will never be an NFL head coach.

That leaves dinosaurs Pete Carroll who was terrible in Vegas and Belichick who is clearly just caching a few checks before retiring.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe,Catch a head coach by his toe
If he coaches well. Jerry will let him go..Eeny,meeny-miny-moe
Jerry's fans told him to pick the very best one
And Schotty you were not it......

Because it is statistically the best chance for a win. Holding off until the end is the worst way to do it if you're going to do it.
You kick the extra point there and if you score the next TD then you have the option of going for the win or playing for OT. Committing to the 2pt attempt there removes your choice at the end and requires you to convert at least one of the 2pt attempts just to get to OT.

many of us said at the time that he never should have been the hire. He wasn’t qualified. He wasn’t even an option for any other team as a head coach.

I then decided to give him time and let the results speak for themselves.

The results are fully in. He sucks. There’s a reason nobody ever hired him as a HC before and he will never be a head coach again.

Also, the Mike McCarthy lame duck season was also BS. They let him coach out his contract while KNOWINGLY not giving him a roster capable of competing in his final season. It was legitimately a wasted season flushed down the toilet.

All because Jerry is a stubborn, arrogant, cheap piece of garbage.
Well that about covers it.

They’re never going to get someone that’s a hard ***, that will cut them out of meetings etc. and my low key theory is the Star makes the team soft. Boxers don’t train at equinox

The process:

Jerry: " Son, who we got in the building thats been overlooked and would be grateful to us for the opportunity? Its yacht season and we got to get on that boat".

Stephen: " I have just the guy....."

The Cowboys walked away from McCarthy in January 2025; Tomlin "retired" from the Steelers on January 13, 2026, over 12 months later. Was McCarthy Nostradamus too?

Then you ignored Rambo, Rockport and countless others saying Schotty had more experience and were even bragging when Johnson took a couple of weeks to get Chicago going.

You know what team Chicago played to get going?
You may be right honest cant say. Johnson was the hottest prospect that year an proved it since

This will make you sick.

A reminder on the process that led to the Cowboys hiring Brian Schottenheimer:

- Dallas sent Mike McCarthy into lame duck 2024
- The season went predictably bad
- They missed the playoffs
- They spent the Wild Card Round doing nothing, going back and forth with him
- This made potentially interviewing top candidates at the time (Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn) impossible, literally
- Monday of the Wild Card Round they finally separated
- The first report of Schotty being connected to the job was because he was the betting favorite out of nowhere
- It was after that it was reported he was having an interview
- They announced him as the new head coach on a Friday night, very un-Cowboys

The whole thing was a mess and so of course here we are.

Jerry doing Jerry things.

They forgot the part about Brian Schottenheimer being hired as OC in 2023, after he was brought in as an offensive consultant the year before, AFTER the FO knew Moore was going the bounce and Mike McCarthy with his previous ties to BS probably wanted more influence on the offense.

You all forgot when Mike was in control of the offense and they were running the “Texas West Coast”, which they had to scrap after the bye, because Dak couldn’t run it…

It was about comfortability for Dak.

You already make the choice (because it's the best one). Doing it early gives you a backup.

You're arguing for losing.

Your star WR is injured, your QB has been off all night, and your line has struggled to block the blitz all game long. You take the PAT.

Note, they went for 2 there, didn't convert it, and lost. Your argument was empirically determined as having failed.

No serious coach is going to come here. Every cycle will have a similar opportunity where the coach has the freedom to build his own team and staff. We don’t have that here.

Harbaugh, Ben Johnson, etc would have zero interest in this job. Nor should they.
Bingo. The only HC coming here is a circling the drain burnout who's out of options, or a totally unqualified noob.

False.

All those issues will be present in subsequent drives. You are asking for them to be an issue even more even going into overtime.

They just went 99 yards.

And there was no 2nd score so it never mattered anyway. The 2 pt try played zero role in the outcome. There is no guarantee in any scenario, but OBJECTIVELY, going for 2 there gives you the greatest chance.

But we will still hear how Jerry is in win-now mode because he's old. Jerry does not care.

I will tell you how it all went down.

Jerry & Stephen at the bar:

Son, we need a new HC.
Daddy, I think we got our guy... Goes by schottty.
Son, he needs to:
Fall in line.
Be okay with us having the final say.
Be okay with us being involved in the day to day.
Be okay with us being in the locker room.
Be okay with us dictating the draft.
Be okay with us making all other coaching decisions.
Be willing to take a huge discount, after all you are the HC of the cowboys.
Be okay with us talking to the media after every game.
Never speak negative about us.
Never be hard on the players we spend the most on.

Daddy, Schottty will do all of that!
Son, we got ourselves the next Dallas Cowboys football coach for 10 years!
