what if he goes to DC and continue to put up 5.0 yards per carry? I think there is a limit to what Dallas will pay Murray, heck I think there is a limit what they will pay Dez, I don't think he is getting Calvin Johnson money or Larry Fitzgerald money. On Murray I could see a deal for 4 year with an avg of around 7.5

Was trying to say Washington is so sorry they could make Murray look bad. :(

For me I think our best course of action is to hedge our bets and tag Murray, just in case we can't get all the pieces to make our defense able to stand on their own consistently through free agency and the draft.

Same here.

I'm normally not one for splash signings, but AD is one of the true superstar players in the league as recently as last season. He absolutely changes how a defense has to play you, and is productive even running into 8 man fronts. That's without the great QB and the OL that's at least as good as any he's run behind in his career. He is clearly a better player than Murray is. And Murray's a very good RB.

If you can sign AD for a couple years, pay him handsomely but not shackle yourself to an old RB for when the wheels fall off, I think he makes sense for Dallas here while we've got Romo still. He's the only RB I'd cough up big money for, though. Otherwise, I'd use another mid-rounder to take the open RB spot and bring back Ryan Williams and let them fight it out.

I'd have to see the contract to sign off on this, but looking at it another way, realistically you probably have a 1 or 2 year window left of Romo playing at a high level at best. If you can sign AP to a short-term deal, and he is an immediate upgrade to Murray (he is IMO, even at his age), you are giving the team the best chance to win while we still have a QB. These are definitely "all-in" years the next couple while Romo is still standing.

Of course if AP wants long years or big money, then nevermind. The worst case scenario is Romo hangs them up and you are still paying AP big bucks.

Yep. That's exactly how I see it.

My guess is that AD wants to get paid what he deserves--and he deserves a lot--but he'd probably take a deal that did that each year he's on the roster. Sort of like the expensive 'prove it' deal TO signed when he came here. It'd cost you a quality defensive FA to keep him, but it might be the best thing you could do for the defense, overall. I have zero reservations about AD's ability to still play or his motivation to prove himself while playing for Dallas.

The only problem is that he leaves you probably addressing pass rush basically in the draft. It's unlikely we'd compete in the Hardy/Avril/JPP sweepstakes, too, at that point.

If our initial offer to him is 4 years and $30 mil, and another team offers 5 years and $37 mil - would you match? Would JJ match?

I think this is the kind of gap we'll be dealing with.

AP to Dallas is as good as done IMO
Murray will not be back

Isnt AP still under contract to Minny until like 2017?....................I have not heard that they plan on releasing him, so wouldn't we have to trade for him?

There is one main problem that nobody is mentioning..................pass protection.

That is why Randal and Dunbar do not get a lot of carries, because they both suck at pass protecting. If you listen to Talkin Cowboys, both Broaddus and Spagnola have said this.

That is why Murray never comes off the field, because he has missed only a couple of blocks all season. The vast majority of the time, he steps up and just stonewalls the blitizer allowing Romo the extra second he needs to throw a strike to Dez or Beasley.

If you start messing around with another back, especially somebody Romo is not familiar with and trust, it might not work out as well as everybody thinks.........After all, Romo said he considers Murray "his brother"......that's a powerful statement there.
