cuttino mobley spoke at my high school because one of our BB team won his three point shootout contest

bruce davis also came and spoke at out football banquet because his son played for my high school

a guard for the texans came to speak the next year but I don't remember his name

I've met jamaal charles and fozzy whitaker when we played them.

also I played with brandon burten who was drafted by the vikings last year

my gf and I flew from austin to LAX during SXSW and we sat right next to john favreau, jason segel, paul rudd, and jaime pressely though we didn't say anything to them because they were bothered so much by other people before we got on the plane but they were cool about. They were promoting a movie at the time so they probably had to be cool but none the less

I used to wait tables and bartend at a small family restaurant in Highland Park, Dallas. I met Brett Hull, Wade Wilson, and Charles Haley there.

I only very briefly talked to Hull when he came to the bar looking for a marker he can use to sign some autographs for some customers.

I waited on Wade Wilson on a very busy Friday night when he came in with his family. I didn't know who he was. When he gave me his credit card for the bill, he complimented me on how good I was at my job and commented on how calm and collected I was when the entire restaurant was chaotic. I said thank you and proceeded to tell him how I enjoy working under pressure and that it brings out the best in me. When I was running his credit card, my fellow waiters came up to me and asked me if I got an autograph from him and I replied, "why would I?" They told me who he was and I felt like an ***. Yes, I was telling an NFL QB about working under pressure....LOL.

Haley was a damn cool guy. He would come in and sit at the bar (while his kids play in the arcade room with the nanny) and order a large strawberry milk shake and drink the whole thing in less than a minute. He would tease us by saying that he was going to the hall of fame as a 49er and get us all riled up. On more than one occasion, he has taken his kids back to the house and come back to the restaurant after closing time and hang out with us and party. Lots of eating, drinking and other stuff ;)

I had a brief conversation with Ben Harper after his concert at Club Dada. I love his music and approached him to say thank you for writing music with substance and he was taken aback by my comment. He was shocked I didn't approach him for his autograph like everybody else that came before me and we spent a few minutes just talking. He did end up signing a couple of autographs for me at the end.

I had a back stage pass for a Ziggy Marley concert in 88' (the big one with Gun N' Roses, Iggy Pop, INXS) and was introduced to him by his then keyboard player who happens to be a brother of my sister's husband. I didn't talk to him other than to say nice to meet you. He seemed like a friendly guy though...LOL.

I had received an award when I was a graduate student at the University of Kentucky. It was a monetary award made possible by Ashley Judd, who is an alum. A couple of years after I received the award I was told that she was coming to campus and my department wanted awardees to attend a reception in her honor. I did attend with another recipient and got to meet her and she asked about our research. We talked only for a few minutes but she seemed like a very nice person and very approachable.

I played craps next to Rodney Dangerfield back in 96 in Vegas. He was pretty quiet.

Working as a car rental agent at our airport, I've encountered many people of note coming through here.

  • Everclear rented a van from us every year.
  • Shaun "The Flying Tomato" White rented a one way from me up to Colorado.
  • The Myth Busters guys rented a car from the guys next to us, but they were rather... self-important.
  • Hershel Walker rented a car from us, but he stayed in the background while his friend did the talking. Nice guy though.
  • Danny White rented a car from us, but I was too busy with other customers to talk to him. Met him later at the event he was at though, and he was extremely nice, and was a friend of my aunt's.
  • Bob Lilly. Only saw him in passing.
  • Kim Kardashian - got a glimpse of her before she got into her limo.
  • Denise Richards was at our counter, but again I was too busy to talk to her. She was very nice and unassuming. Didn't act at all like she was too important.
  • Jenny Finch and the rest of the USA Softball team. Jenny Finch is HUGE and extremely gorgeous.
  • Gabriel Iglesias the couple times a year he comes into El Paso, as he had quite a few gigs here when he was first starting out and did his Comedy Central special here.
  • Sherman Hemsley, who lived here, and was very unassuming and not interested in talking to people.
  • And finally, I almost crashed into Chelsea Clinton. She was here campaigning for her mom back in 08 and I was exiting the Men's Restroom. As soon as I stepped out, she was there walking through the main concourse and we almost hit each other, but managed to avoid it. She smiled and really just looks like any normal person. I had to do a double take to make sure it was her. Wouldn't have thought anything if it wasn't for her small entourage and security.

Having lived in New Olreans and Dallas for a combined 28 years, I have many, many stories. I guess it depends on who you think is "famous".

Name dropping can get very old and very boring, but there are some funny stories.

Maybe if I plug in an "infamous" person or two? lol They weren't nearly the most famous people that I've met (actually played pickup hoops with Jordan before and have met three presidents, for example) they made a good story.

I used to ride in the Endymion parade during Mardi Gras. One year, there was a casual Riverboat party for the crew, sponsers and special guests.

My table of 6 included a buddy of mine and his fiancee, me and my girlfriend at the time, and.....
Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee. :laugh2:

Now THAT was a party.....some comical stuff went on that night and the next day when we all where riding in the Parade--which ended in yet another party on the Superdome floor.

I didn't count that as really "meeting" the person or else my list would be pretty long.

I've met many *famous* people. I have yet to figure out why 99.9999999% of them are worthy of meeting.

Everyday, this is the same thing they say about meeting people in public.
Just lately I met two men at breakfast that were sitting next to our table.
One had a cap with gold braid lettering on it and when they got up to go I was able to read what it said.
Meanwhile the other fellow had seen the ipad my wife was playing with, and stopped to talk about it so the first guy came back and was standing by the table,I invited him and the other fellow to pull a chair out and sit down because my Sweety could take a long time. As we sat talking I asked him about his cap, he proceeded to tell me what he had done to earn the right to wear such a fancy decorated cap. It was inscribed with the name "USS INDIANAPOLIS ". The other man then told us about his cap inscribed with "USS ARIZONA". The last person I got to meet was at a new Taco Villa in Benbrook,Tex. As we went in there was a older gentleman standing near the counter,so I asked him if he was in line,he said no and as we looked at each other I asked if he was from Odessa because he looked familiar ,he said yes and said his name was Bobby Cox.Well you could have knocked me over with a feather. He came back and sat with us for awhile and we got pictures to put on facebook for back home people.

Yeah, those two elderly men wearing their service caps ( I assume from WWII) dwarf any athlete or person from hollywood as far as importance goes....not even close.

I've had a lot of random encounters that gave me my list.

I was a movie extra as one of the football players in We Are Marshall, so I met Matthew McCaughnahey, Kate Mara,Matthew Fox and Anthony Mackie(Papa Doc on 8mile) through that.

I went to the 96 Olympic Games and met Michael Johnson, and sat in his limo with him and a few other kids. Saw his limo, figured it was someone famous, although I had no idea who he was at the time bc I was 10 yrs old). We got interviewed by the local weatherman Ken Cook about how it was meeting an Olympic hero. That was pretty cool.

I met Warrick Dunn, b/c he used to be a part owner in the company I work for.

I played football in high school with 5 guys that are in the NFL now. Eric Norwood(panthers),Calvin Middleton(Rams), Kenny McKinley(Broncos, but committed suicide unfortunately), Jonathan Dwyer(Steelers).

A girl I'm friends with from high school is a Falcons cheerleader now.

When I was younger I was really big into wrestling and just happened to get my hair cut at the same shop as Rick and Scott Stiner. Also my cousin lives next door to Buff Bagwell now. He was actually just in a really bad car wreck right before the NFL draft. I've met Kevin Nash and The Giant at Cracker Barrel when they came for a wrestling match years ago.

I've also met these people at work:Justin Beiber,Joe Johnson,Marvin Williams, Josh Smith, Martin Prado,Julio Teheran,Arodys Viscaino,Tommy Hanson, Roddy White,Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward and Dennis Rodman.Beiber was actually pretty cool. The rest were friendly enough but didn't talk very long.

Met Jim Brown in Tower Records in Hollywood about 30 years ago. He was renting a movie. At that time in his 40's looked like he could still play. Wasnt particularly friendly.
