Jerry isn’t even in the picture anymore.....this is McClay and SCOUTS, and Stephens baby. Plus JG never put a premium on getting him defensive players either. Marinelli didn’t help either
Doesn't matter. Jerry is the GM. It's his job.

And the Pats, 49ers, and Chiefs keep nabbing D players early and often. Hmmmmmmmmm
And the chiefs turned our 2014 4th round pick Anthony Hitchens into a solid starter on a SB championship team.

Charlton was a bust in Dallas yet has found a role in KC. It's not just the drafting, it's hiring coaches who make Jerry feel "comfortable".

The best Cowboys teams ever under Jerry happened when he was uncomfortable.
Yep, exactly right. Jerry would rather lose with yes men than win with stronger personalities. Sucks

The sad part is, if you make it your focus, you don't even have to take D players in the 1st. BALT's D is littered w/ 2-7 round picks. Why did it work? Because they do it constantly. You won't get all of them right, but why not take a physically dominant dude in the draft and see if he'll work out? The Ravens had the 4th ranked D last year w/ a loaded DL, and still took 300 pounders for the DLine in rounds 3 and 5.

I want someone to punch Jerry Jones so hard that his dentures come out. Then we can talk about comfortable. Someone call Antonio Brown so we can set Jerry straight.

The issue with Taco is he was drafted with a premium pick. Finding a role is something a late part of the draft guy does. He sucked here and was lazy. It was not a good fit at all.

The biggest travesty is we passed on TJ Watt, a top 10 talent for Taco.

Face it folks, this is the franchise for however long Jerry is alive. Looking at Stephen Jones he seems set on following his old mans example.

And Will McClay is the most overrated thing going. Why does he escape blame?? We is heralded as some great genius yet he comes up short time and time again with these drafts.

This defense sucks because this front office can’t draft good defenders or when they do they don’t keep them.

And while everyone bashes all the players who have been underperforming on the field, you need to remember who is RESPONSIBLE for the accumulation of talent for this team, and who has signed off on some bad decisions: Jerry and his front office.

I still believe Will McClay is a top eye for talent but don’t ever kid yourself into thinking he’s drafting these players. McClay racks the pool table and hands the cue to Jerry. And the drafts have been good at times, but drafting good players is only 1/3 of the equation. They have to be developed, coached, and then molded into a team that knows how to play together to win.

So where has this FO failed? They apparently don’t know how to draft defensive players. It’s now obvious. Let us count the ways- All these guys were in the Top 100 picks in the year drafted.
  • Drafting defensive players with premium picks since 2015 has not been good:
    • 2015- 1st round- Byron Jones- CB- good player but let go in FA.
    • 2015- 2nd round- Randy Gregory- DE- Been a complete waste of a premium draft spot
    • 2016- 2nd round Jaylon Smith- LB- has been an overpaid- average at best LB
    • 2016- 3rd round Malik Collins- DT- a solid not spectacular player, let go in FA
    • 2017- 1st round- Taco Charlton- DE- a complete bust
    • 2017- 2nd round- Chidobe Awuzie- CB- been avg at best. Hurt at the moment.
    • 2017- 3rd round- Jourdan Lewis- CB- All I can say is meh.
    • 2018- 1st round- LVE- LB- Injuries have made him irrelevant
    • 2019- (gave up a 1st pick for Amari Cooper)
    • 2019- 2nd round- Trysten Hill- DT- Avoiding the bust label by a thread
That’s a ton of premium draft capital not working out! So when you wonder why this defense can’t tackle, cover or pressure, here you go.
The Gregory pick was mindless, could have picked up Frank Clark almost a round later I believe. Lead to the later desperation Taco pick. Some still see him as this season’s savior. Could have gotten Jarran Reed with the Jaylen pick. Through a beer bottle through my screen on that one. When is the earliest they can get out that contract. At this point just get rid of Nolan and let Edwards try to salvage this sh;t show!

Possibly. Did McClay agree w/ drafting injured players and potheads?

I think we’re stuck with Jaylon through 2021, and even then we will have some dead money if we cut him. Firing Nolan at this point is a reaction. I understand why we would all exact some frustration but 4 games into a season, I’m not too hopeful we can change DCs and expect a lot to change.

Nolan is irrelevant at this point. What we should be doing is checking the value of some of our players who won't be around by the time we don't suck anyway. Not sure if there's any value to be had, but it's time to check.

Actually McClay doesn’t draft anyone. He presents Jerry and Stephen (who knows maybe the entire Jones family) with a ton of recommendations at each position. McClay is considered one of the better talent evaluators in the league. But he doesn’t pick em.

@Bobhaze Byron Jones has done jack squat for the Dolphins. Barely on the field for the first 4 games and making $16M/yr.
Gregory is a good player but has a drug problem. It was a risk but it would have paid off greatly if he could have kicked his habit.
The Jaylon Smith pick was good and he played well for about 4 years. The 2nd contract was a mistake in hindsight.
Collins was a mid round pick who gave us some good years. Doing nothing for the Raiders.
Lewis was a 3rd round pick who hasn't done much. 3rd Round picks are no sure things.
Awuzie is a good pick. He got hurt this year. No one's fault.
LVE - Same thing. No one's fault he got hurt.
Charlton was a huge miss.
Trysten Hill has stepped up his game this year so far.

Defense just isn't playing well so far. I wouldn't blame it all on the FO. The players just are not getting it done. The defensive system may not be ideal for the talent on the roster.

Just isn't the Cowboy's year this year. Shame that it ended so soon into the season.

Edwards ran a defense similar to Marrineli, what ever this crap is looks too complex for this squad to pick up without OTAs mini camp and real training camp. Need some type of reaction at this point!
