Great post but Hill is avoiding the bust label by way more than a thread. He's only been a Cowboy for 18 months and was a project when he was drafted.
You’re right, it’s still too early. But I don’t see anything like a second round talent so far. I think a lot of our fans overrate him because they desperately want him to work out.
Anthony Hitchens.
Hitch was a 4th round pick in 2014 and after his 4 years here, he walked in FA. He’s now sporting a SB ring as a starting LB for the chiefs. We have Jaylon Smith, lol.

This defense sucks because this front office can’t draft good defenders or when they do they don’t keep them.

And while everyone bashes all the players who have been underperforming on the field, you need to remember who is RESPONSIBLE for the accumulation of talent for this team, and who has signed off on some bad decisions: Jerry and his front office.

I still believe Will McClay is a top eye for talent but don’t ever kid yourself into thinking he’s drafting these players. McClay racks the pool table and hands the cue to Jerry. And the drafts have been good at times, but drafting good players is only 1/3 of the equation. They have to be developed, coached, and then molded into a team that knows how to play together to win.

So where has this FO failed? They apparently don’t know how to draft defensive players. It’s now obvious. Let us count the ways- All these guys were in the Top 100 picks in the year drafted.
  • Drafting defensive players with premium picks since 2015 has not been good:
    • 2015- 1st round- Byron Jones- CB- good player but let go in FA.
    • 2015- 2nd round- Randy Gregory- DE- Been a complete waste of a premium draft spot
    • 2016- 2nd round Jaylon Smith- LB- has been an overpaid- average at best LB
    • 2016- 3rd round Malik Collins- DT- a solid not spectacular player, let go in FA
    • 2017- 1st round- Taco Charlton- DE- a complete bust
    • 2017- 2nd round- Chidobe Awuzie- CB- been avg at best. Hurt at the moment.
    • 2017- 3rd round- Jourdan Lewis- CB- All I can say is meh.
    • 2018- 1st round- LVE- LB- Injuries have made him irrelevant
    • 2019- (gave up a 1st pick for Amari Cooper)
    • 2019- 2nd round- Trysten Hill- DT- Avoiding the bust label by a thread
That’s a ton of premium draft capital not working out! So when you wonder why this defense can’t tackle, cover or pressure, here you go.
The miss in drafts is a big part of it.

But we also chose this off season to sign all of our offense and none of our defense letting 4 starters on defense walk including a 1st round pick in Jones, our only Pro Bowler in secondary.

We also let another starter walk , a solid 3rd round pick in Collins. So , on top of our bad draft picks we let our better draft picks walk.

And then chose to use our 1st pick in draft on a receiver in which we are already deep at this position . While leaving Safety one of our biggest holes still null and void.

The result is an explosive overly talented offense and one of the worst defenses in Cowboy history. Not a recipe for success.

Charlton was a bust in Dallas yet has found a role in KC. It's not just the drafting, it's hiring coaches who make Jerry feel "comfortable".

The best Cowboys teams ever under Jerry happened when he was uncomfortable.

Watch him have more sacks then D-Law at the end of the year!

I think we don't draft well on defense for what ever reason. its probably the mentality/culture of this team. its not flashy. it doesn't sell tickets. it doesn't show up on the stats. Jerry wants flash, points, excitement to sell tickets, merchendise. this team is the most valuable NFL team.....

and we invest in the offense. Martin, Smith, (fredrick, now gone), Cooper, Dak, Zeke all got huge contracts. this past draft, premium spot. Jerry even said they had their eyes on Chaisson, and hoping he would drop to them, but that shiny object distracted them.....we have invested unwisely in Lawrence and Jaylon Smith....neither had proven they were worth their contracts. Smith got his due to his busienss friendship with Jerry . then we let Jones walk and look at that secondary.....

the problem is with the culture, its not about winning championships. its about marketing. sales. merchendise. low scoring games don't excite the fans. offense does. and thus we are not built, nor plan to build or approach it in such a way to win championships.....

this is jerry's mess

Agree 100% the culture is awful. When your flamboyant owner is the “face of the franchise” and dominates the airwaves about the team, it automatically minimizes the impact your HC can have on the culture. Jerry is the biggest problem this team has. Until he gets more out of the way, this nightmare will continue.

Yes. It’s hard to fault them for drafting The Wolf Hunter. Taco had bust written on him from the word go.

Good thing we missed Chaisson. He will probably not justify his draft position.

Yeah this defense sucks because of Nolan. No way around it.
Not defending Nolan, but honestly I don’t think there is any DC that can do anything with the lack of talent and the lack of pride by these pathetic excuses for men.

When your FO comes out with a statement after the Seahawks game “stating we have no need for DB’s”

it’s on the coaches for not being able to assess talent during training camp, but that can be pardoned due to the lack pre-season games.

This is all on the Cowturds FO and I’ll add those associated with them...
As fans and especially this year with no pre-season games for us to watch and see for ourselves, we counted on the likes of Mickey Spagnola and his sorority of kiss ** ses to give us the news.

They raved about Thompson, Wilson, Griffey and others as to how good they looked.
In retrospect anyone can look good in a jersey playing patty cake.
They set the expectations with their bs stories that fueled a lot of fans hopes.
We all knew the offense was in good shape.

Sure blame it on injuries to some extent...

But it’s the Cowturds media hype machine and FO that are responsible and players like D-Laugh, Jaylon and Zeke to name a few who cash in and laugh at everyone including their teammates with their performance.

I’ll bet right at this moment every fan of this team was hoping a Jeff Heath would have played today.

May not have changed anything, but at least you could count on the guy give 150% on every play, which is more than you can say for the rest of them.

The Jones Cowboys are :
The sizzle with no steak.
The big hat with no cattle.
The $100,000 car in the showroom that’s never been driven.
The pretty girlfriend who turns out to be a stripper.
The whipped cream with no dessert.
The 6,000 square foot mansion built on quicksand.
The expensive artwork of a hillbilly.
The eternal craps table of an unaccountable billionaire.

This could go on and on....
