Credit for this picture goes to mickgreen58. This is one of the all time classics in Cowboys History. Meet Thurman's Thieves.

Yesterday it was reported that the Cowboys showed interest in hiring Dennis Thurman to replace Todd Bowles. For the last 6 years Thurman has been the DB Coach of the Baltimore Ravens. I have to admit, I love the idea.

For those of you who don't know, in that picture are the following players.

Back row, left to right...Michael Downs & Bill Bates

Middle row, left to right...Ricky Easmon, Victor Scott, & Dexter Clinkscale

Seated, left to right...Ron Fellows, Dennis Thurman, & Everson Walls

Whenever Dennis Thurman played the Cowboys DBs swiped the football. Everywhere that he has coached since 1988 the DBs have swiped the football. Take a look at the Ravens INT numbers for the last 6 years. You think some of that is not about Dennis Thurman? If you do then please explain this quote from Ronnie Lott's Hall of Fame induction speech.

Ronnie Lott said:
To Dennis Thurman, Dennis Thurman you helped me with my skills. You helped me become a better football player.

Folks, that is the greatest Safety to ever play the game giving credit in his induction speech to Dennis Thurman.

We want a Defensive backfield with attitude? This guy will instill it. We want better coverage? This guy will teach it. We want Roy to return to form? If this guy can't bring it out of him no one can.

Right now, as I sit here, more than any draft pick, I hope we bring Dennis Thurman home so he can train some more thieves.

I didn't know the old man was coaching in Baltimore. I would love for him to come home to Dallas.

You've made this idea sound very appealing.

Plus, Thurman is clearly a gangsta.

So...I'm on board.

Yeah, and they canned him when Billick got the axe. So he's available.

I'd take him or the former Miami DB coach and consider it an upgrade.

I would LOVE to bring Thurman in to coach our DBs! He has proven success everywhere he has played and coached.

I love how Bates is the "token" white guy in the pic. :laugh2:

That backfield of Walls, Fellows, Thurman, & Downs was outstanding.

To add, the coin "Thurman's Thieves" was coined by Danny White in 1985. En route to blowing out the Washington Commanders, the Cowboys picked off Joe Thiesman 6 times and returned two of them for a Touchdown.

While being queried about the play of the Cowboys secondary by a reporter at the end the of the game, Danny White quiped (paraphrase), "They were like a bunch theives back there...Thurman's thieves".

Also, if I am not mistaken, the Cowboys ranked #2 in interceptions that year, Second only to perhaps the greatest team in NFL history, the Chicago Bears.

Yep, it is a shame Everson Walls doesn't get consideration for the HOF and the ROH.

Also, Michael Downs use to write op-ed pieces for the DMN, not sure what happened to him.

Just FYI, I read in FWST, that as of today, Thurman has not been contacted by the team.

Troy Polamalu was a freshman in 1999, so he was at USC for two years while Thurman was there.
