The Ringer: The Cowboys may have bigger issue than messy contract negotiations

There is so much about that article that I disagree with, some of it I'm not even allowed to argue here. So I will skip the politics. Jerry's age has nothing to do with how the team on the field performs. Dak is under contract this entire season. He knows he has to play well to get the contract he wants next year, even if that contract is with a different team, he has to play well now. So, that's no reason to think that will be an issue. The running game could be an issue but it doesn't all depend on the RBs. Our O-line can spring our RBs for big yardage. I like our
O-line so I'm looking forward to seeing them perform.

I disagree with one point made - Jerry doesn't firmly believe in his control because he's admitted in the past he would get fired elsewhere. Also, Jerry resorting to cussing in response gives away his bruised ego at the question. He knows, but he is a slave to his ego, and cannot bring himself to do the right thing, because then the fans were right all along and they win.
I have said this before, he is long past the point of no return. Say he hires a legit GM and a HC who has control of the roster. And they happen to win or even get to a SB within the first two or three years. That proves what an idiot he has been for the past three decades and how right every one else has been.

The even worse thing now is Stephen will be in the same boat once Jerry gets taken out feet first.

This has all the makings of the family getting ready to sell. The Cowboys are Jerry’s outlet to stay in the spotlight. Otherwise they don’t care. They use the 7 draft picks they get and that’s it. The Jones outside investments out weigh the cowboys. After Jerry dies or the backlash becomes too great, they will sell. I have 0 doubt.

Disagree all you want, but tons of people are saying the will be the biggest Free Agent of all time. There was Manning, but he was coming off a bad injury, and there was Brady but he was supposed to be “washed”. I know the Anti-Dak crowd hates this, but there’s really no arguing that a QB in his prime, and who is coming off an MVP caliber season becoming a Free Agent is huge in the eyes of most NFL teams.

Thank you. You are rooted in reality, and you are considering the situation rationally - seeing what is as it is.
That is refreshing.
A lot of teams would be happy for 12 wins and a shot at the playoffs.
I would respect the decision to move on. But, there would plenty of teams lining up and asking Dak to the dance. How can one follow pro football and not know that?
You, sir, are a bright spot in the conversation.

How does a players contract expire and he is released to unrestricted free agency, but he still counts $40 million towards the salary cap? That just doesn’t make sense to me. And if that’s true then Dallas has the absolute worst management of all time
Void years are cap cancer.

The Cowboys’ Issues May Be Bigger Than Their Messy Contract Negotiations

Dak Prescott is still unsigned beyond this season, cash spending has been low for the past decade, and ownership questions are only growing. Where does Dallas go from here?

The most incriminating part of the article:

"When Cowboys fans wonder why they haven’t reached an NFC championship game in three decades and the Eagles have made two Super Bowls in the past seven years, the answer is that the Eagles are shelling out over 50 percent more cash each season than Dallas. This year, for example, the Eagles are outspending the Cowboys in cash on their roster by $100 million. In football terms, the Eagles just want it more."

I hope you are right because there's not much hope with the Jones' running things.

Deflecting by excuse is a common narcissistic tactic. Do not be surprised just how much he really believes it.

Jerry Jones' mentality was reinforced by his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was enshrined primarily for his accomplishments as an owner, who financially revolutionized the league.

His personal self-qualification is the enshrinement justified his 'unquestionable' and unlimited adequacy as a general manager. The lifetime achievement honor was, quite literally, the worst thing that could ever happen to a narcissist.

There may have been a less than 1% chance of Jones would voluntarily relinquish his GM title eventually. That possibility vanished in 2017.
Jerry is vain as the day is long which gives the facile impression of narcisitic disorder. OTOH, people with NPD do not share power, admit mistakes, or make fundamental changes.

Your dislike of the man has you demonizing him.

The Cowboys were America's team long before Jerry took over. Jerry helped them get back to greatness with his money, not with his knowledge of football. His ego thinks otherwise and therein lies the problem, and why they haven't done anything in almost 30 years.

I had been guilty of stating Jerry Jones had narcissistic personality disorder. However, I stopped doing so in December 2022 (link). Since then, I have been guilty of labeling him as a plain, ole narcissist.

"Vanity?" Jerrel Wayne Jones Sr.? Okay.

"Demonizing?" After his decades-long public track record? Jones has never required my or anyone else's assistance diminishing him within the public eye, in particular his franchises fanbase's perception, in that fashion but okay.

That's generally the signing bonus. It's already been paid, but the NFL allows a team to kick it down the road and count toward a future salary cap.

Yes, the absolutely have the worst mgmt of all time.
