The Roy Williams Thread *merged*

My point is Roy doesn't even attempt to get by anyone. He is SEEKING contact and STOPPING. Let me see if I can load up the plays I am talking about. He stops at the line and shuffles his feet. In the past he would have at least tried to blow the lineman back on his ***.

You know - sometimes that OL just might be doing a darn good job of doing his JOB.

Ever think of it that way?

Just because we are the Dallas Cowboys does not mean we will beat every tom-dick and OL thrown at our DB's.

The other team has talent also.

I hope you aren't thinking he was suppose to provide help on the first TD cuz John Madden was wrong to blame Roy on that one.

I dont know about that Henry sure did look like he was expecting deep help the way he was playing Burress. Maybe Henry was confused but it seems like Roy is out of position more then anyone else on defense so my first reaction is to blame him.

I love having Roy on the team but he had a poor game last night as did some others. I think Roy will see some better days ahead but given the fact he did not make any plays and yet gave up some plays he will face the heat from fans and media and rightfully so.

That pass on Henry was on the right side of the defense, wouldn't that be on Hamlin? Of course I don't know because I am not a Dallas Cowboys coach and don't know what the defensive call was, maybe someone else here is.

I was a Roy supporter until late last year and its just getting harder and harder.

He doesnt appear to be anywhere near the player he was just a few years ago. He was always just "Ok" in coverage but you could live with it because of all the other things he brought to the table. Now, I am hard pressed to say what it is he actually does well.

I would say he is a hard hitter at times but not a good tackler. I remember in the pre-season when Dallas was playing Houston and Ahmad Green just ran over him on that long run up the middle. It was embarrassing...

I think back to that "boom" video that was on the net years ago that had these incredible plays in primarily Roy's rookie season. I would be hard pressed to create a video like that going off of, say, the last three years or so.

I'm not saying he wasn't suppose to get help, I'm just saying it wasn't suppose to be from Roy.

And after that play, I saw Hamlin tapping his chest on the sideline as if to say "my bad".

Watch the replay, you'll see it.

What are Roys responsibilites on the middle blitz? Can you say for certain? What happens if he middle blitzes, it's all clogged up and then the RB wiggles out to the flats? Does he continue blitzing up the middle? Maybe his assignments are to key the RB. If the RB stays in the block, then go after the QB, if he goes out then cover him. But, I don't know and neither does anyone else sitting at their keyboards right now. All I see are a bunch of guys that just want to complain and lump everything on one or two guys because they make money or something....

All I see is you lumping me in with everyone else. My original thread was regarding a specific middle blitz and nothing more. BTW, no one blitzes up the MIDDLE and then covers someone in the FLAT. It's not going to happen. The only benefit I can see would be to fake a blitz and then drop back into a lane to confuse the QB. Dropping back under the slant. Actually, very similiar to the way the Giants got their INT. My main point would be that Roy doesn't seem to be giving much effort on making the blitz work before giving up.

I do think of it that way. Like I said earlier, watch the plays again. If there was a punter standing in front of him he would have slowed and stopped.

I saw one blitz up the middle last night where he tried to explode through the OL. The OL won the battle. It happens.

I remember in the weeks leading up to the 2002 draft there was some talk that Roy said he was considering only playing 5 years in the NFL. I can't recall where I saw that--if it was in an article or on a board somewhere. Does anyone else remember that? If so, did the report have any validity?

I saw 3 times. He tried to explode? :)

Not as explosive as that 10 inch vertical leap on the Plaxico TD.

With Roy, you feel like you're watching a 34 year old player trying to make the plays he made as a younger 5-6 years ago, but his body just can't do what his mind tells him to anymore.

Unfortunately, Roy is 27.

Yeah that was pretty horrible. I think he was just lost on the play (which was the case for most of our defenders most of the night).

I really hate bashing players. I want all of our players to be great, who doesn't? It's as simple as this to me. Some players seem to be in the right place at the right time. Always around the ball. Right now Roy seems to be in the wrong place ALOT. He may have lost his confidence which is causing him to think and lose a split second.

RxMan;1635030 said:
I was asking if you saw that at his exploding into someone. I certainly did not.

On one play, yes. He exploded into an offensive lineman, but the offensive lineman won the battle. It happens.

didnt Roy lead the team in tackles against the Giants ??
He had a pretty good hit agaist their backup QB and stop Giants from getting a 1st down and couple nice tackles, give the guy a break is only the 1st game of the seaon, plus Cowboys won thats really all that matters.

I can't decide which Roy Williams (Dallas' or Detroit's) is the better player...Roy Williams the safety is such a nonfactor in games you can count on one hand the number of times he has amounted to being a factor in a game...Perhaps he's better suited to being a LB?...Guy is useless in pass coverage unless the QBs just throw him the ball.
