The 2008 draft had 1 QB drafted in the first 17 picks, 1 RB, 0 TE's, and 1 WR. I agree that it isn't a "sexy" draft in terms of skill positions but it isn't a historical one as far as those go.

Two guards possibly going in the top 10 is pretty historical to me!

Because of the lack of talent at the skill positions, IMO teams will want a "sure thing" with their 1st round pick. They won't reach for a RB like Eddie Lacy, a QB like Geno Smith, or a WR like Cordarrelle Patterson that may even be taken in the 2nd round.

I really think it comes down to value and how the boards are constructed. Thursday can't get here soon enough.

This is a really good CB class, with quality running from the 1st through 4th round or so. Fortunately, there a bunch of teams in dire need of CB help.

I'm hoping somehow more than one QB goes early, but I think the odds of three CBs going < 18 is almost as good as 2 QBs. Slip in a 1-2 WRs and maybe a TE and Dallas would be in great shape.

In any case, before dallas picks at 47, there could be 5+ QBs (mostly late 1st/early 2nd. 6-8 WRs, and 5-7 CBs gone.

Someone ahead of us will reach on a player, and someone very talented wil fall to us. That's about the closest you can get to a guarantee.

Raiders....you can just about count on it. Actually I think they trade down for extra picks to recover all the ones they gave away. But if they do not trade down to below us...they will still reach for a player...

Agree on the guarantee part, as when was the last time that this didn't happen in a draft...I always laugh a little when I see "write it down' or especially "book it"
Maybe it's just me, but find those statements a little funny.

Every year there are surprises including QBs taken too high, other guys chosen *way* above where they were expected to go as well as the fallers.

I expect Cooper or Warmack or Richardson to be there.

I think the new regime in Oakland will be much more steady.

That does not mean they won't trade down. New Coaches and GMs always like to maximize their picks.

I just would not expect them to be taking any Heyward-Bey type players in the top 10 anymore.

I don't buy that 2 guards will go in the Top 10, and I was saying that this draft is not historical as far as lack of offensive skill players. Guards are ALWAYS mocked earlier than they actually go. We need one and I'm fine with spending a first round pick on one, but it isn't a position NFL teams go crazy for.

Fluker seems out of reach,Sly looks more and more like the pick if the guards are gone.

I'm kind of pulling for Fluker to go before us anyway.
Increases the odds--whatever they may be--that Richardson, Cooper or Warmack slide downa notch.

If Xavier Rhodes and Maybe Desmond Trufant move up like some are predicting, all the better.

I don't see us trading up in the first. Someone will be there at 18 that we are targeting. Personally I believe Cooper, Richardson or Sly Williams will be the pick. I feel Warmack will be gone. And I have a feeling that we will be passing on Vaccaro if available.
Cooper/Richardson/Sly in the first.
Safety in the 2nd (or G/C if Sly or Richarson was in the first).
Le'veon Bell in the 3rd (or WR if Bell is gone).

I am so excited for the draft.
;)

this please

I don't think it's so much a historical draft for OGs. I think the Dallas Cowboys could really use one of the two first round OGs, and so our fans are thinking they're going to go slightly higher than they're really likely to be taken.

My best guess is that one of the OGs is there, but that Richardson is not. But it is a really tough draft to anticipate the early first round picks in, so just about nothing would surprise me.

No matter how it breaks, though, there should be a player who can really help us there in the first. And it's the rounds after that that really make or break a good draft, anyway, though they're not as much fun.

this draft is so devoid of wow players at the skill positions that the meat and potatoe guys are much more likely to get picked earlier

I heard the same speculation about DeCastro not being available at #14 last year let alone #18. I'll believe a team takes a guard with no versatility and questions about his pass protection before #18 when I see it. On the other hand I do expect Cooper to go, he can play center which greatly enhances his stock.

The highest a guard has been drafted in the last decade is #17, so it's not very realistic to say that is is all but certain that two will be drafted by then.
Alot of that history has to do with money. Now that the money doesn't matter so much, it's not a deciding factor.

Exactly. DeCastro was the Andrew Luck of guard prospects and didn't go in the top twenty. And now two are going in the top ten? Not happening.

It would not totally surprise me if one of the Guards fell to 18.

But if you are looking at a pure grade standpoint, DeCastro did not grade out as well as either Warmack or Cooper.
He got a lot of hype, but the same guys that evalauted him say these guys grade better, pre-draft, than he did.

I really don't see us moving up that high to draft a guard. But I do see one of the following to be there....cooper, warmack, richardson or vaccaro. We will take one of them

I would take Richardson at #18 who should still be there IMO.

However, Kawann Short at #47 would be a good pickup as well.
