Louisiana is very liberal in their drinking laws, I have been there plenty of time to partake in the celebrations. Hell most of my family are Cajun people and I understand the culture pretty well.
Yep, the majority of the state's population and culture is Cajun.

The hits just keep on comin'.

EDIT: I forgot about swamps. Louisiana's one big swamp. Yep, that's another accurate description as well.

As I have stated I left Fort Worth so my wife could take a job with the Saints, NO really is a unique place, it's much more of a "community" than Dallas but thats because it's not a transplant city any where near the level Dallas is and It's much much smaller population wise and not the sprawaling metro-plex like DFW is. It's apples and oranges....
I've lived in both cities for long periods...Apples and oranges is about right. It in no way means one city is better than he other...they are just very, very different. To each his own, as they say.

I will say this, unless you actually live in Dallas (not Frisco, or Ft Worth...but actual Dallas) you really don't know the city of Dallas. To some degree, the same applies to New Orleans. Those that live Uptown or in the Garden District or somewhere actually inside N.O. know that city far better than someone living in Mandeville or Slidell. You hear folks talk as if they know a place when they really only know it from a tourist persespective.

A lot of is and the influence is still very much a part of the state. How many states use the terms perish? Everyone else has counties. You can deny it all you want but the Cajun influence in Louisiana is still very strong. I don’t say that as an insult

Southern part is a lot of swamp land, I don't know why you are being defensive about it. I have spent a lot of time in that state I do know alot about it

You've made your point very well. The cities are different and unique. New Orleans has some wonderful tourist attractions and that's great. What's grating about the article is that it tries to pump up one city at the expense of the other. That's just plain bad manners and bush-league journalism.

I'm always amused when cows stick their heads through the fence in order to eat the grass nearest the roadway. At times, they really strain to reach out there.

What? Does that grass taste better? Do the exhaust fumes from passing automobiles create a more complex flavor?
It's the subtle, yet delicate texture of spattered road kill that stimulates their hearty bovine appetite.

Yep, Louisiana's the only state that has them.

Which is kind of funny since they have a share of dry parishes (counties).

Theoretically, I live in a dry county; neither grocery store sells beer or wine. However, we do have a drive through liquor store. Go figure!

There used to be a great place in New Llano ( I think that was where it was) called Frozen Spirits that had a bunch of drinks you could order that were basically slurpees/slushies with alcohol in them.

Just the fact that you know what a pirogue is kind of proves my point. :laugh2:

Interesting fact: In the state of Texas, selling alcohol before noon Sunday is still illegal.

Texas Blue Law, friend of mine was once arrested at 11:58 am on a Sunday at Surf Side Beach for breaking that law.

Actually, the majority population is not Cajun and is concentrated in southern and southwestern Louisiana. New Orleans itself is less than 5% Cajun and is more likely considered Creole, though still not a majority.

South Louisiana, and Cajuns in particular, is predominantly Catholic, which is where the parish term comes from. Louisiana north of Alexandria is predominantly not Catholic. The swamps/marshes are pretty much confined to the Gulf coast and Atchafalya/Missississippi river basins.

Cajun culture, while strongest in the Acadiana parishes, is embraced by pretty much every native of the state.
