A. If your QB is not one of your three best players, you got a major problem
B. Sean Lee has missed 41 games since being drafted, so lets not act surprised that he is hurt, he is hurt almost every dam year. The team should have been prepared to play some games without him and if the defense is non-competitive without one single player, than it was an epic fail in roster building.
C. Coaching matters, and even my friend Idgit concedes that Garrett is not a good game day head coach. He makes very few adjustments, still struggles at times with clock management, and doesn't think through situations very well. For example, not burning enough clock against the Packers. And I am not talking about not going for the TD, what I am talking about is getting everybody on the same page and playing smartly. When Dak snapped the ball and ran in the TD for the lead, there were 14 seconds left on the play clock when the ball was snapped that could have been burned down to 1 or 2. Don't think it matters that much? When the Packers scored their winning TD there was 7 seconds left on the clock. If we would have burned those 14 seconds down we probably would have won the game............That is on coaching, and yes it matters.
A) Dak is one of our 10 best players and is a 2nd year 4th round rookie. He was in the MVP conversation last year. He was Offensive Rookie of the Year.
B) Sean Lee played every game last season and should have been a 1st team All Pro. No team simply has depth to replace such a player. The drop off will always be significant. The defense was great for a half without him but if the Offense doesn't get going defense usually wear down which is what we saw (short fields on turnovers also don't help). Finally the team used a high 2nd rounder on a LB. It's not as if they have ignored the position.
C) Rod and Scott are great coordinators and Garrett is a good coach. Screaming that we haven't won a superbowl does not make that untrue. Every year we finish with one of the best offenses in football. Many a year we actually overachieve with our defensive talent. So yeah Coaching matters. Just last year we won 13 games and the talk all year was that one half of our team needed to greatly overcome the complete lack of talent on the other half of the team. Does that sound like a 13 win team to you? Testament to coaching no matter how unpopular that is around here. And the reason it's popular because "getting better" talent is hard and takes a long time. Fans think that a coaching change can have a quick turnaround so they cling to that. Because fans aren't patient and want instant gratification.
