The Slant Route

A staple of the Aikman-Irvin-Emmitt days. I feel like we have the perfect personnel to run this unstoppable play, but have no idea why we don't use. Playaction to Zeke. Draws LBs in. Creates an open space behind them. All Dez (or even TWill and Brice) have to do is get across the CB's face and box out. Dak sticks his foot in the ground and throws. No worry about the pass rush. No need for pocket presence. And with Dak's accuracy (when throwing on time), should be a gimme 10 yards. Tell me why I'm wrong?

I think there was one Beasley got beat on. But yes, many more are needed instead of bashing head s against the same wall with the same stifled game plan.

Those are modern concepts that JG doesn't subscribe to, as are pick routes and back shoulder throws

Butler and Williams run them fairly well, the just aren't asked to do so very often

The only explanation I can think of for not running them more often, is they tend to lead to more interceptions, as they can be deflected right in the middle of the field

Cause we are dumb?
lol. Seriously though, I personally trust only Beasley to run a consistently well-run slant route out of our current wide receivers. Problem is that I wouldn't like to see him running that route a lot out of the slot. Maybe put him in motion pre-snap..?

The whole playbook isn't available to Dak, that's why. He doesn't throw (many) slants or deep over the middle (maybe ever.) Those are the riskier throws and you can't win in the playoffs without the whole playbook at your disposal. The inside run fake slant seems like a gimme with Zeke. There is a QB on the team that CAN make those throws. He's just not playing right now. Huge Romo fan, but also realize you can't bench Dak after 1 bad game. Bad situation in an amazing reality of being 11-2.

I wouldnt be surprised if they dont want prescott throwing to slant routes. You dont get a lot of separation even when you are really wide open in those routes.

That one INT looked like Dak thought Dez was going to do a post route...aka as a 30 yard slant for the old forum members lol.

Williams needs to be utilized more. Our best route runner of the downfield receivers.

I really want Darren McFadden active from next week on. Insert him in place of Dunbar. Since our receivers are having such a tough time getting open, we could spread DMac out every now and then. He's got a lot of speed and has sure hands. We need to make use of him the rest of the way. He can spell Zeke AND play a part in the passing game. We need a spark and maybe he can provide it.

We might need a bigger spark.
