Dunbar is supposed to be playing that role now and they cant even figure out how to get him the ball in space.
Before injury last year, Dunbar was killing teams with the wheel route up the sidelines...........another forgotten tool in box, along with the TE straight up the seam paired with Dez on a streak........especially with 9 in the box

The patriots receivers and tight ends seem to know every single route every created including the 360 donut route

A staple of the Aikman-Irvin-Emmitt days. I feel like we have the perfect personnel to run this unstoppable play, but have no idea why we don't use. Playaction to Zeke. Draws LBs in. Creates an open space behind them. All Dez (or even TWill and Brice) have to do is get across the CB's face and box out. Dak sticks his foot in the ground and throws. No worry about the pass rush. No need for pocket presence. And with Dak's accuracy (when throwing on time), should be a gimme 10 yards. Tell me why I'm wrong?
They threw to a slant a few times.
TWill - Balls hit him in the hands but he drops it.
Beasley - Defender ran into him but no call. Obvious interference.
TWill - Complete but a foot short on 3rd down.

The slant can lead to INTs if the QB does not see the field correctly. Often a LB can undercut the ball. Romo didn't like to throw to the middle of the field, especially short for this reason.

The Cowboys receivers has limitations.
TWill - If on short slants he struggles to catch the ball because there is no time to react.
Butler - Would be interesting to see if he could do something other than go long, but he may not be reliable to be where he should be.
Beasley - Short. Had to get it to him on short slants.
Dez - Catch and fumble.
Dez - It seems like he should be able to do it, but there must be reason they don't have him run it very often.

Good point. Does not require great pass protection and loosens up the front 7 for running plays. But Irvin would get knocked into next week several times when a physical safety would meet him at midfield. Imagine Landon Collins meeting Dez. It takes a great deal of guts, or very little medulla oblongata, to come across the middle in the NFL. It may work a couple of times, but you better be careful. Especially now with concussions becoming more common and a priority.

BTW, colleges have the targeting rule where they can eject players but the NFL only has a 15 yard penalty and at worst, a fine that is equivalent to less than a parking ticket to you and me.

The Garrett offense has never had a lot of slant routes. Having shorter QBs like Dak and Romo, along with receivers who can't run routes make it a difficult proposition.

Read Broaddus. Says the same thing. Dez tries to sell and out before cutting in for slant which really is unnecessary since he is so big and should just use his body to shield defender from the ball. Irvin should give Dez more tips. Den should understand that he just need to get inside defenders shoulder and that slant is automatic. No need to juke and dance.
